Paulco
Three appearances in 2009, none since. First time crashed in his second ride, injured - 1 point Second time 8 points Third time 11 points That was at age 17. Not especially bad really. That's quite interesting . In the same season Ward was banging in maximums everywhere in the PL , in fact his first ever ride round Ashfield he equalled the track record . So it even took such a prodigious young talent like Darcy Ward three attempts round Armadale to hit double figures . Interesting indeed .
scotchopper
haha got the big wooden spoon out again paulco. of course his lower scores had nothing to do with the monarchs being title contenders that year. you have to factor in the standard of the opposition where did glasgow finish in the league in 2009?
SCOTLAND1314
Anyway back to the meeting in question. I thought considering the very late heavy shower of rain the track staff did a great job in producing a nice racing strip. The racing was pretty decent all things considered. From a Monarchs perspective Cookie was as good as ever with only one blip on his scorecard. Wee Joe was unstoppable and is very much a trump card at reserve. Theo produced a solid score despite an uncharacteristic looking 2nd ride. Claus chipped in with a tidy score and considering he'd have been riding with the aftermath of an injury did very well. Derek got off to a good start riding to a 5-1 over Screen but thereafter didn't have the best of scores. Max continued in his steady progress and scored in every heat including his part in a tidy 5-1 in heat 14. Marcel scored a couple of gift points and looks to be struggling. Hopefully he can improve soon. For the Tigers Joe Screen rode well and put in a decent score. Ringwood did ok but was very hit or miss. Wright with the exception of one ride looked like a shadow of his former self. Bager was poor. Grieves didn't perform that well. Horwood was very poor. Jacobs was very disappointing given his recent form. The crowd looked reasonable in size.

I'm not saying Edinburgh is a bad track or can't produce decent racing . It's just one of those tracks that a lot of riders can't get to grips with . What Glasgow's league position in 2009 has to do with Darcy Ward's performances round the Dale , is beyond me sorry .
scotchopper
point was that the standard of the opposition had an influence on the scores of darcy at away meetings. made slightly tongue in cheek obviously but i'm sure you got that. This is emphasised by darcy only scoring 7 in the league match vs edinburgh at kings lynn. armadale is far from perfect but too many people blame the size of the track for a riders poor performance. Young51
Darcy Ward didn't appear to take to it like a duck to water If memory serves Darcy rode Armadale the first time like a throttle happy nutter! You can excuse him that because he was just a young kid..but i remember watching him and thinking he's gonna come a cropper..and he did!!.As for the track as recently as a few weeks ago the 'big EL boys' almost unanimously agreed that they really enjoyed their nights racing and had a lot of fun.Good skillfull riders who attack the track at the Dale get their reward.. simple as that! Not the greatest viewing I agree. I did hear that plans to install temporary seating on the new 1st turn were knocked back due to health and safety reasons. After visiting Torun last month (15,00 capacity, all seated covered stadium provided by the council) I did think about asking West Lothian Council to build something similar for the Monarchs - would I be wasting my time?
