Fromafar
So, who would you have sacrificed to allow Kennett to join the cause, if not Alex? I am only pointing out that the statement is not quite right. Not really bothered who was dropped to make way for the new signings.Alex was probably the lowest average but it still means that anybody else could have been dropped and the Team would have still been under the limit. DSC67
I'm feeling a lot more positive about this fixture now after todays news , with R/R operating for Bellago it will still be a tough night but I think Berwick will have enough in the tank to get a home win and put some much needed confidence into the team. Matty Wethers and the reserves will cover for Bellego, and should make a fair fist of things. Not least with Kennett in three of them! Heedthebaw
WOW here's another one who didn't see that one coming, Eddie Kennett, what a rider he will be in this league, 100% racer, and Paul Starke is no dud either, This promotion and Ian Rae in particular are getting pretty good at pulling the proverbial rabbit out of the hat, but this tops the lot. Very very well done to every one concerned and from a business point of view this surely stop the moaning and increase the crowd levels to a point that will make it all worth while for the owners of the club. Gutted for Ricky and Alex. But with Ricky's health more important and Alex riding with no confidence as was plain for all to see and three defeats at home something had to happen, And it HAS. Now is the time to get behind the club and team, get the stay alway's back and support the club the best we can. They are trying, so should we. Welcome to Berwick, Eddie and Paul
bigeddiechek
A good job all round by Berwick. No reaction to their too-many local critics when they lost a couple of matches, but clearly wheels were spinning behind the scenes. No rushed-out statements about 'changes will be made' but now we have an announcement when everything has been signed, sealed and delivered. The people who mock Berwick's media relations might want to ponder on how well this has been handled, without leaks or rumours to dilute the news when broken. Further, although Eddie Kennett is coming in on a plus-ten average (very few PL No 1 riders are even within a point of that) no over-the-top statements about him in the website news. But I'll say this -- he is an even-bigger capture for a PL club that Simon Stead was! One of the most sensible posts I have ever read on here. Most excellent! That's true, although statement above makes it clear to get Kennett in, another rider had to be sacrificed and Edberg's was the only average that fitted. They also say he could hopefully return to race for them in future. I think the reason I think it was harsh is probably due to some of the criticism he was receiving. Just feels like kicking him when he's down. I would be that isn't the case though and that everything will be working out fine for him. Fromafar
What about the PL pay scale ??????? £55 a point. When we asked Eddie he said he could not ride for that. He might be getting paid bonus points too.But there again that might be debatable.
Mr Blobby
For Kennett to be making the choice to double down and to be making the 10-12 hour round trip to berwick and back every Saturday i think he will definatly be on a lot more than £55 a point thats for sure. I agree with you there no PL number 1's will be on £55 a point but he will be on a lot more than any other PL number 1 in the league. Hopefully berwick get a decent crowd and it won't take a heavy hit to the promotions wallets.

I thought that sort of information was meant to be confidential. For a man in the position of team manager of a Premier Leage club and been dismissed from employment once before for comments made on a public forum, your treading on dodgy ground. wandersome
I thought that sort of information was meant to be confidential. For a man in the position of team manager of a Premier Leage club and been dismissed from employment once before for comments made on a public forum, your treading on dodgy ground. it's not confidential. He is pointing out the most money a rider is allowed to be paid for riding for a PL side and his surprise that a rider that has previously refused to ride for those amounts has just signed for a club the other end of the country from his home. It does look a little odd. I also don't think he was dismissed for comments made on a public forum, this may have been what you were told (much like you will be told Kennett is on £55 a point) but isn't the actual reason. The reason he was dismissed was because other people offered our promoter a cheaper solution to track issues we had and his comments on a public forum offered the promotion an easy excuse for getting rid. wjm
You can see the attraction of the PL for a guy like Kennet. He wasn’t at his best last season, he has previously missed part of his career as a result of a ban, as far as I am aware he doesn’t have a team place in Poland (possibly does in Sweden?). A lot of “EL exclusive riders” don’t actually race that many meetings (Swindon have about 9 fixtures between now and July, in theory Kennet now has 17), any sort of additional meeting is beneficial to "EL exclusive riders" He was rumoured to be after a PL place in the winter (linked with Rye and Plymouth was he not). He is going to have a massive EL average next season if he can keep his form going, given the rules and regulations in place it might see him struggling for a team next season…thus, a decent PL average could be to his benefit (to be fair he could drop half a point of his “assessed” average and still have his pick of PL teams if need be) If the leagues ever merge, you would assume it would benefit guys like Barker, Doyle, Stead and Kennet should it ever come to any sort of ”one league assessed average”. Massive draw for the league as well as Berwick. Edited May 9, 2013 by wjm
