manchesterpaul
I see that Sweden has come to a deal to bring the Polish Extraleague to television screens for their speedway fans. They state all the best reasons for doing so, best riders in the world, great atmosphere with plenty of fans and usually top class racing etc. Isn't their a UK rights holder for this league?, yet we fail to be able to see it on our tv's. One would have thought that at the very least we could have access to an online broadcast. Oh well fortunately free online streams these days are of very high quality, just seems odd for someone to buy the rights and prevent anybody from seeing the product. pandorum
Perhaps this will replace the UK speedway once SKY bail out next year. It's a sad fact that the company who owns rights to speedway here and Poland seems a little bit less than utterly useless if the sum total of their time running the show has not involved not ONE sponsor for our league racing and nothing in the way of promoting the sport here outside of the very insular speedway world. Polish speedway is very exciting and well supported. I particularly enjoy watching 1st division matches which turn up on youtube sometimes a few days after. The threadbare excitement of EL is put in the shade by the Poles and if that had been on SKY, even as a non live delayed event, I think the sport would have benefitted. Sadly speedway is governed by the stupidest people I have ever seen or heard of being allowed to run a sport. But having been a fan for well over 40 years I have grown used to thier ineptitude which is not a good thing but simply a fact of life where speedway is concerned.
michaelcroucher
To all, you know that I will have something to say about this topic. I agree that it is bad that we don’t have polish league on our TV with a British company but you can get polish speedway and lots of other speedway with a polish sat. As most people on this forum know I have polish TV and I get to watch about 4 meetings a week sometimes 5 with most of them live or just 2 days old, and also a week old. The price I pay is only £16 a month. With regards to how the racing is in Poland they know how to race and prepare the tracks also with after the meetings the riders will go to the crowds and kind of say thank you for their support. It is so different out there and not just in Poland but also in Czech and Swedish. It has opened my eyes to speedway and how us the UK goes so wrong and why we are so left behind with speedway. For example I was watching the junior finals last night in and the meeting was unbelievable. Not one UK person was in it. Ok I don’t get UK speedway but to the point I don’t miss speedway on our TV because I am saving my money not having sky and I am getting great speedway. The hardest thing was trying to understand the language but you pick things up and not all the interviews are done in Polish. You get some riders who can only speak English so not too bad at all. The best thing about it is that I also get the channels in HD and it makes a difference. It’s a shame it’s not in 3d but I think that will come. Anyway to round it’s about time that someone one takes on sky like europsort are doing showing the GP and World Cup with also other races. The person who also owns the rights to show Polish Speedway which I believe is GSI should be ashamed as if they were so into speedway then they would do a deal with a TV company so show Polish Speedway to UK viewers.
brandonbee48
Totally agree with both of you. See the video on the "Round 7" thread, posted by our friend Racers and Royals, and my (early morning!) comments. Unfortunately the satellite company here in the USA doesn't offer a Polish package, otherwise i'd have it like a shot. Take care. Alan. jeffster
The UK rights holder is GoSpeed International.... UK channels, at least one that I know of, have looked ito bringing Polish Speedway to our screens, but have been put off by the prohibitive fees asked..... We are so lucky in Europe that if we want to see other speedway we can but i think including myself that there are other fans outside Europe that would like to see speedway in other countries. You must be doing your nut I know I would. Do they show speedway in America on TV.

It totally doesn't exist here, apart from the little niche in California.Google "speedway" and you get a million concrete oval Nascar circuits popping up, but none of the shale variety. There is a track in Owego, NY which is 6 hours away from here. God bless these enthusiasts. If anyone comes here, bring your laptop with the streaming sites loaded on. I have written many times to various TV companies extolling the virtues of the GPs, American icon, Greg Hancock etc.. but no interest whatsoever. 2 factors that militate against coverage here. The 5 hour time difference here on the East Coast, 8 hours on the West Coast. So a GP would begin at 1pm here and 10 am in California and the sports schedules are jammed up with baseball, college football etc. Also America doesn't like uncertainty tv-wise, so a rain delay, meeting over-run wouldn't sit too well with them. Why i raise my glass to the streamers . Edited May 11, 2013 by brandonbee48

Premier Sports now stream the Swedish League in the UK and looking to expand it internationally, and Kanal Sport gives us free high quality streaming from the Danish League. I think the answer to that question is ............'The UK rights holder is GoSpeed International'.... These people are surely the worlds stupidest company. They hold the rights to something but do nothing with them. Surely a percentage of something is worth more than a 100% of bugger all. Bristish speedway has had 2 decades of lucrative TV coverage which could have been a platform to attract major sponsorship and gain media interest. The Polish League is among the best speedway in the world and could have been used to enhance UK coverage of the Elite League in terms of interest from the public and interest from sponsors and backers. Instead these idiots would rather squander it all to inepitude and greed. The BSPA who are also surely the stupidest bunch of people ever to oversee a sport allowed a bunch of spivs to control the media interest in their sport and as a result gained next to nothing from having the best bit of publicity in it's history via SKY's excellent coverage. Regular Polish and English speedway on SKY along with actual promotion of the sport outside the speedway family would surely have been beneficial to the sport here. But the blinkered greedy inept fools that, laughingly, manage the sport here were too busy fighting each other and scoring petty points against their perceived enemies than trying to build up a decent base from which to allow the sport to grow rather than year in year out diminish. A tragedy of Shakespearian proportion. Edited May 11, 2013 by pandorum
brandonbee48
Why does Ronnie Russell remind me of Reginald Kray? It must be the erudite way he speaks . Nuff said. Regards. Alan.

Agree totally with the absolute windfall of publicity, many sports would have begged and crawled on their hands and knees for the 'televised hours' speedway has had. Kept meaning to ask who is this Shakespeare bloke you and others have mentioned, does he live down your street or summat! lol. Hey just think in a hundred years time that phrase will be replaced by people saying it's a tragedy of GoSpeed International proportions. hee hee.

Although weighing up the population of the United States to speedway attendances you are more likely to bump into someone on the street who can explain Quantum Physics in minute detail than tell you they have been to a speedway meeting lol. In California: Every Wednesday: Industry Hills (they staged the very successful Monster event a few months ago) Every Friday: Auburn Every Friday: San Bernadino Every Saturday: Costa Mesa Other tracks staging meetings or 'a' meeting in Cali are: Victorville, Ventura, also i think Perris will stage the American Longtrack championship. Indiana: Indianapolis New York: Owego Florida: Mesa Park, Fellsmere I think there are a few more dotted here and there but haven't got the time right now to check and it's not an American speedway thread anyway lol. Incidentally, whilst entering Speedway into an American search engine of any kind will result in Nascar/Motor Car racing there are a vast number of local dirt track stadiums that sprint cars race on. I recently saw a list giving details of 1,000 of them. There seem to be as many local dirt tracks as there are local football pitches in the UK, ok a slight exaggeration lol. The network is always there for some Middle Eastern billionaire who wants to set up a sport, or even a group of 'Promoters' to set up a speedway club league. One would hope that the local team aspect would work better than mindnumbing scratch races. Edited May 11, 2013 by manchesterpaul

Lol very good post and vitally informative, i'll adjust my tour of USA tracks accordingly (then again Latino Ladies can be quite beautiful and they may have start line girls...ok unlikely they do). Have a safe flight mate. Make sure you tell the pilot not to fly too low approaching the airport as those thieving scallies in the suburbs will whip of the tyres from the undercarriage.

I thought you were resident in Poland Pawel. I used to read match reports from those two Canadian tracks. Credit to you that you managed to seek them out and go along to meetings.
