Lioness
I confess to having grave doubts about the new promotion's tactic of using so many young riders before the season started, I think what many people seem to miss is that our new Aussies are not the raw teenagers of previous years but young ambitious young guys who for whatever reason seem to have been overlooked by teams bringing over kids in the past - Joey and Harley are both in their early 20's and very hungry to grab a chance that some back home thought might have passed them by. They are also far more mature. For me, the promotions tactic for the new Aussies is a master stroke. Yes Joe is a youngster but mature beyond his years. I am still trying to figure out why all the premier league clubs weren't lining up at his front door on their knees asking for his signature given the reputation he had last season for his commitment and drive. Im glad they werent though from a selfish point of view!
tyretrax
Which is entirely wrong When the green lights are initially turned on they will be under the Starting Marshall's orders. i.e. stationary. If they move at this point then the referee should exclude that rider for not following the Starting Marshall's instructions. The rider is only allowed to move once the tapes have risen. Normally, the ref's bottle it and just give the rider a "warning" for moving at the starts. The clever ones wait until the rider who is moving has to stop to avoid touching the tapes and then raise the tapes. This is a natural way of keeping the riders stationary. The referee is under no compunction to release the tapes at any time and theoretically could keep the riders their for a minute until he releases the tapes. The only requirement is a minimum of 1 and a 1/4 seconds until the tapes rise I believe. Having been there. The start marshal brings the riders to the tapes, when he is satisfied that the riders are in line and stationary he drops his arms. He moves forward and the Ref puts on the green light. The riders are then under referees orders and the tapes then rise 1-1.5 seconds after the green light comes on.
StevePark
Heat 13 was worth the admission money alone! First PL point on the board for the Diamonds. Ludo struggled (although he didn't use that word on Twitter earlier!) as did Stevie again. I'm sure, given a little more time, his confidence will return and he'll be getting the scores we (and no doubt he) thought he'd get, otherwise another decent team effort, with Lewi getting 8 on a track he'd never ridden before, which all adds to the education he's getting.
george.m
Couldn't make it today. So glad to read the newbies are progressing by the week. Can anyone tell me what is the issue with Henning? We were delighted when he signed for the season so what is going on?

Tsunami
I believe Luddi has had Man Flu, and was under the weather. Good meeting with some excellent racing. Still got big queries about the corners on the 2nd and 3rd bends but other than that the track is level, grippy and passable both inside and especially the outside. Christian though he had made it with Screen, but come the forth bend and Screen took the inside for a change and must have gained about 3 metres, emerging ahead of Christian and then getting the win. Richie slipped up early on when, in the lead from the gates, he chose to ride the inner line out of the second, and James G obviously just went around him easy and took the win. Thought we had blown it after the early two 5-1's, but we hit back later with our own, but still couldn't win after winning heat 13 but losing heat 14. However, as Paulco said, it was a great atmosphere with some super racing. Must admit, when I first saw the names of the young Aussies preseason, I thought here we go again, but got to admit I saw enough today to say the Aussies and young Joe will serve you well in 2013. Bager I am not sure about and I would be already looking for a replacement and looking for an opportunity to introduce them as son as poss. Very impressed with changes to the track, the hightened fence on the 3./4rd bends, the new bar, the new hospitality suit, the bouncy castle(although I though it was a bit soft for me ) as well as a happier atmosphere than usual. Lovely to see, and I hope Glasgow capitalise on the current enthusiasm. A very good day out. Nice to meet up again with regulars Paulco and Alistair, and of course Wee George, who never changes. Sorry to hear that Bongo Brian is still posted missing, and not in attendance. Wonder who get's Wee George home these days. That was top class, always a pleasure to watch
idanthyrsus
I only followed the match on the excellent Newcastle Live Updates, but it was noticeable that there were no heat wins from gate one and (from memory) eight from gate four. Anybody who was there got any views? Not meant to be a criticism about Glasgow's track, just a query as there have been people following both teams who have said how fair the track was and how it was possible to pass and it seems a bit strange! NJC71
Slightly disappointed with just a point but pleased to hear it was such a good meeting and pleased for the Glasgow fans and promotion who seem to be doing a good job. Nice to see another young Brit in Joe Jacobs getting a proper chance at PL level and doing well. As our own Lewis Kerr has proved if these lads are prepared to put the miles in and promoters are prepared to give them a chance there is some hope for British speedway. Gates 3 & 4 tend to produce most of the race winners at Ashfield it has been like that for a couple of seasons now couldn't tell you why though

glasgowmicktiger
Same as the new zealand track in the gp they said 3&4 were the better gates there because thats were the bikes go over down the straights and something to do withmore dirt on the outside than inside. I'm not 100% sure why that should be the case , but the outside gates do seem to be better . You get a lot of riders building up speed and going wide out to the fence , on the 1st and 2nd bends , and that drive can take them to the lead coming out of the 2nd bend . But likewise it's possible cut down hard on the apex of the bends and move to the inside and make a place or two that way . ertainly it's not uncommon to have four riders almost level on entering the back straight . But if you have not got your gating boots on when coming from gate 1 , you get the nose cut off you on entering turn 1 .
george.m
Dont know what the story is there , but he was very poor today . Thanks Paulco. I'd like to be fair on him, but it's getting harder by the meeting as there seems to be little progress since the start of the season. I'm thinking along the same lines as Tsunami. Having said that I've not been to the last two home meeting so perhaps I'm not being fair.
Paulco
Thanks Paulco. I'd like to be fair on him, but it's getting harder by the meeting as there seems to be little progress since the start of the season. I'm thinking along the same lines as Tsunami. Having said that I've not been to the last two home meeting so perhaps I'm not being fair. He was right off the pace yesterday and only scored a point , which came in his first race , when he overtook the equally awful visiting number 4 . Two bad lasts followed before he was replaced by Joe Jacobs in heat 14 , which turned out to be the change which saved the meeting for us . We know Henning is better than that , so whether it's mechanical or still struggling with the injury he sustained at Berwick last year - i really don't know . Going back to the subject of the track , when i was leaving the stadium yesterday i got talking to Sean Courtney and he seemed genuinely pleased at how much i was buzzing from the racing . He went on to tell me that Stuart Robson was raving about how good the track was now and also how complimentary Robbo was about how sporting Screen and Grieves were in the amount of racing room he was given during that wonderful heat 13 . A nice touch from a rider who entertained us royally yesterday .
