40-38
Taken from the Leicester Lions Facebook page: "Lions sign British Champion The Lions have completed a deal to bring Robert Branford to the club and he will make his debut in their Premier League fixture at Somerset on Friday. Branford currently rides for Coventry’s National League side and at Wolverhampton last week the nineteen year old was crowned British Under-21 Individual Champion. “I have been monitoring Robert’s situation well before our season started and was impressed with how he performed against some Premier League standard riders in a meeting in Australia just before he departed for the UK. I was not at all surprised to see him win the British title at Wolverhampton and we are pleased that Robert has agreed to ride for the Lions” stated Team Manager Glyn Taylor. Leicester were all set to enter the season with a squad of eight riders with Lewis Blackbird and Lewis Kerr sharing the number seven position until Newcastle offered Kerr a full team place. “Ever since we allowed Lewis Kerr to sign for Newcastle we have kept a watchful eye on emerging talent and Robert fits the bill. His presence will generate competition within our team” added Taylor. Branford will retain his place in Leicester’s team for the Bank Holiday Monday meeting at Ipswich and Lewis Blackbird comes back into the side for the trip to Berwick on Saturday 11th May and the return fixture at Leicester against Ipswich the following day." Thoughts anybody? I can see the reserves looking slightly worried as of now...
wandersome
Robert Branford as a short term solution to that problem would appear the best i can come up with so far. Now they've started listening to me I have a few other ideas that the promotion might want to take on board Seriously though, i think Branford is a good signing. He looked on the verge before his injury last year and it clearly hasn't affected his riding on his comeback. A good signing.
KevH
Is this the same Robert Branford who rode for Redcar in 2011. ?

Fozzie4388
Didn't Scunthorpe do it last year for a while ? about 3 days. Till Irving was sacked by Workington

flagrag
I am not really surprised about the signing to give them some options but it already looks like they are picking the riders incorrectly as you have Blackbird based in East Anglia and I believe started his career here and other eastern tracks but he is not in the team at Ipswich. Then you have Branford who I think used to ride at Berwick last season and also again practicised up there but instead they use Blackbird up there very strange decisions also meaning more travelling as Branford is based up North. ballinger
as Branford is based up North. Branford actually lives in Matlock

They were my thoughts exactly, soon as i heard who was riding in which fixture, surely as an ex- Berwick rider it would make more sense to use Branford in that meeting & Blackbird at Ipswich . Thought they might be a fixture clash with their national league sides they race for, but looked at the fixture list & there's not, seems a strange decision. He only rode one meeting there and crashed out during it. He is actually a Redcar rider but could never meet the three point minimum. 2ndbendbeerhut
Nice to see Branford signed up but have to agree with the others about what tracks he will ride on. Must be a reason for it, just can't think what? Blackbird certainly knows the Foxhall track well.
Fozzie4388
someone on Leicesters facebook reckons Blackbird has signed for you Would be a massive improvement on the reserves they have now if this is so.
flagrag
The only thing I can see why Branford is not at Berwick when is the U21 round he is in ? Does that clash, As seem to remember somebody saying Lasse was missing 11th & 12th May due to W21 meeting. Even so I would have still used Blackbird at Ipswich anyway
speedflash
Robert is away in Poland for the U21 so he cant ride at Berwick or the return leg.
