Rye House V Plymouth 27/4/13

tomorrow evening weather permitting sees plymouth make a second attempt to visit the launch pad. we have had some overnight rain and the forecast for today and tomorrow is for heavy showers. if this fixture survives i'm going for a home win. the rockets look like an improving team to me.

Heavy rain in the morning, showers in the afternoon. Gonna be touch and go I reckon.

Why does Len reach for the panic switch so early everytime ?

To be fair I can only remember one occasion where he got it wrong. The track will be wet from recent rain and being very close to the river won't help with the water table being high. More rain forecast around lunchtime, so I guess he had little choice. Nothing to gain from a rain off, so he must have very good reasons.

Meeting off - waterlogged track. No re-staging date yet.

May 25th is a reserved date according to official Rye website

Still dry in Rye House, which is a bu**er as I was looking forward to tonight  I hope it rains now, before 7.00pm to make me feel a bit more accepting of tonights call off.

Yes I know Len's normally correct, but this year seems to be so stop/start with the late start, very few NL meetings to use as infills and now the weather as well.

It is beginning to look like Len may have to consider a Sunday meeting, 5th or 19th May unless, he can get Leicester to switch their fixture, move the US handicap meeting next Saturday or have Plymouth on the 11th May then use the reserved date, 25th for the visit of Sheffield.

Who'd be a speedway promoter!

Not sure how many meetings are needed before the averages change?

Driving along the M25 in Essex and the sun is shining. Some rain around, but not enough to make the track unraceable surely?

He certainly got it badly wrong a couple of years ago when I came down for a match, and I went to the stadium and took some pictures to show it. According to xc weather, there were less than 2mm of rain due to fall this afternoon so I get the idea they just couldn't be bothered, which is what I thought last time.

As long as there are no complaints about away fans not coming in future because I am sure all will take into account the record of calling matches off when there are 'two clouds in the sky'.

I do have sympathy regarding weather forecasts because the met office seem incapable of predicting anything more than Ann hour in advance.

I'm still not convinced there was any real effort to get this on

Well, its now some 2 and 1/2 hours since Bolly updated you with the 'no rain in Hoddesdon yet' and I can further add we have had 'no rain since then' and the sun is currently 'blinding'! Blue sky and a few clouds.

To the North, we have a few grey clouds, but nothing threatening yet, especially to warrant a call off so early!!

I'm not gutted any more, I'm furious. I've been to loads of away meetings that have been rained off close to the start, but at least they gave it a chance. That's the nature of being a speedway fan in this country unfortunately... To call off a meeting this early on the strength of a questionable weather forecast, just to placate half a dozen or so away fans that may have travelled, is ridiculous... Wonder how much he saved on riders travelling costs today?

Its terrible here. I just went and had a pint at the Rye House pub, car now covered in dust :drink:

Has Silver lost interest in Rye House for the sake of his new baby over in Kent?
