Newcastle V Plymouth Ko Cup 2nd Leg Sunday 28th April 2013

Wanting and getting are two different things all together. Devils will give you a real run for your money.

Told you so! I really hope the Devils ride well tonight at Brough Park we pay to see good racing after all and yes let us all wish that both sets of riders come through the match unscathed

Richie Worrall returned to racing last night guesting for Poole at Eastbourne. Managed 4 from the no. 5 spot

let us hope that he didn't aggravate his injury and we will see him back in the team tonight. Has anyone any news of Andrew Tully?

He'll return only when fit. As to how long, even the experts don't know the answer to that one.

Rain shower at about 5.00pm seemed to badly affect the track. It looked OK and when i was on it before the meeting with Archie, it just seemed nice and smooth with just normal level of loose dirt. No problem for him. Unfortunately with the big lads, the surface was loose with very variable grip causing a lot of lifting and sudden grip. Most mastered it but it was graded heavily after heat 2 which was an early indicator that it did have a few concerns. Schramm was an early faller round the outside of the third bend but to be fair he was very close to the fence to start with with no room for error. Nevertherless, the third bend was looked at and graded. The times were about 2 seconds slower than normal, but most riders rode accordingly and produced some good safe racing. All going well and a large heavy raincloud passed to the North probably over Longbenton and shortly afterwards in heat 1, it went dark and we had our own raincloud over the stadium and I thought heat 12 would not be run. It was, but it was obvious Mark could not see properly in front, and Christian stayed safely at the back. The winning time was over 70 secs and Mark was indicating that his vision through the goggles was impaired. The two captain got together and very shortly the ref called the meeting off on safety grounds.

and this was a decision that everyone agreed with.

So with the Diamonds winning the away meeting, and leading 42.5 to 29.5, the result was that the Diamonds move on to the next round of the KO Cup. Experienced a dead heat in heat 3 when Mark was in the lead for all the race but Luddi caught him on the line with a fast finish and taken the lead or so I thought. Some fans on the line think that Mark got it by about half a wheel, and the ref called it a dead heat.

Some good hard riding and best ROTN was Proctor who has never been this good before with Redcar, but he gated and rode hard for his wins tonight. Some good solid performances from all the Diamonds with every team member getting either a heat win or a paid win. Proctor and Mark were the only real points scorers but a decent performance from Dane Nicki B who could have scored more. Not sure he has ridden Brough before.

Disappointing crowd last night on a cold night with always the threat of rain. We really do need to convince more fans to return, or introduce new fans. We have a great winning team, on a great racing track in one of the best stadiums in our league. We need to support it and increase the support quickly.

Good post explaining the situation, but regarding the size of crowd I think the problem is in recent years there have been too many times meetings have been called off by the riders not wanting to" give it a go"(fair enough) but fans who travel distances take this into account and give it a miss.I years gone bye riders would start a meeting on a wet track but nowadays they are reluctant to ride in these situations.

I enjoyed the Meeting last night. Shame about the rain though. Right decision was made by the two Captains and Team Managers to call it off - we don't need to see anyone hurt and Heat 12 did look decidedly dicey.

What a great pleasure it was too to see, once again, a Brave Band of Plymouth Supporters who had made their way up to watch the Meeting. I made some friends from Plymouth last year and it was GREAT to see them again. I am determined to make the effort to get down and visit them at the SBA. For me, this is what Speedway is about.

Best wishes to Plymouth for the rest of the Season - they have a pretty decent side this year - pity Ben Barker wasn't still riding for them - that would change a decent side in to a formidable one.

Thank you for your company Plymouth Supporters - we had some fun. :t::)

Hi Tsunami, How to get more fans through the turnstiles? The age old question and despite my past involvement with the Diamond Geezers I still don't know how that can be achieved apart from one obvious thing lower the admission charge, I know that is a no brainer. Advertising is the main tool. Adverts in local press, radio and TV. If only we could attract the fans that have stopped coming but how....We tackled this back in 2004/2005 but whatever success we had then appears to have been blown in the wind. Do you know how the tracks that are well supported treat their fans someone must be getting things right and when we find the track that is bucking the trend we need to copy everything they do. However, the Newcastle Plymouth match is a bad one to compare as there were no visiting fans in the stadium and who could blame them, Plymouth is almost a foreign country

Lowering admission price might work, on the other hand if it doesn't get more folk through the door, you're on a hiding to nothing.

As far as advertising is concerned, the local BBC and ITV stations are now beginning to show Speedway on it's sports news, thanks in no small part to GRT Media. Local press adverts are far too costly and therefore not even worth shelling that kind of cash out as you'd never get it back through the turnstyles.

Dave made the point that it's a great stadium. It is, but anything but great at the moment especially in the cold weather. We have the crazy situation where none of the terracing can be used, but even a quick look shows at least 90% of it could be used. Corden off the worst bits and allow some shelter.

I know it's not the promotion's fault, but I feel we could be in serious trouble if as its suggested, William Hill aren't planning on doing any repairs this speedway season. I don't suspect it affects the dogs as it does the speedway.

Crazy situation last night when the meeting was held up by the sun (again), and started again without any apparent change in conditions. Most likely the last three heats could have been ridden before the shower. Of course as soon as it was called off the rain stopped and the sun was out again.

Was impressed with Plymouth's attitude, they really gave it a go. Nice to see Lemo getting among the points, and for my money he was inched out in the "dead heat".
