Redcar V Newcastle League Cup Thursday 25th April 2013

If that is the best the track has been all season - then God help us!

If you like to watch "gate and go" then fine. I personally like to see a bit of genuine over-taking.

One riding line all night, tonight, meant that was impossible.

You wanna try Berwick.

Yes unfortunately, in my opinion that was the best the track has been this season. When you get rid of the people who know how to prepare a track and decide to do it yourself you are asking for problems. I never said the racing was good, in fact I dont think I have seen a good race meeting at Redcar for quite a few years. Gate and Go has been the norm at Redcar since Glyn Taylor left apart from the odd heat but I could say that about a majority of tracks up and down the country. Redcar's track size for me does not promote good racing with overtaking.

Redcar fans are being short changed by the current consortium, its only a week ago that Mr Havelock was moaning in the prog that they needed more money to survive, there wasnt enough people coming to watch, he wanted more people in the 100 club. All we get is cut after cut but getting rid of the track man is like cutting your own throat. We have all heard about the rumours regarding buyers making offers to the consortium, well if the club is losing that much money, why didnt they sell ?

Glad to see Mitchell Davey getting in about the points, and being on the pace.

The lad put a lot of hard work in (off track) last year to raise money for a fresh go at it this year, and I hope it pays off for him. Certainly a meeting with no last places will be a massive confidence boost for him.

Sadly it was the best of the season - certainly the smoothest after the grading. Riders have struggled with the first bend at times this season, and whilst it was rarely used there was an outside line for those that went for it - especially Dyer.

Think we probably missed a trick not giving Dyer extra rides - Skidmore was clearly struggling and whilst Davey was on the pace and battling hard you fancy Dyer would have scored more points.

And of course ruff park was never like that was it ?

The track at Redcar has been crap for a few years now we all know that as are quite a few as a lot of promotors like the track doctored for the home team or won't shell out for maintainence.

Redcars track used to be too fair for the away team but provided good entertainment.

I'm not defending redcars track but look their is a lot worse, maybe if you'd won though you wouldn't of complained so much ;)

On the first point yes, Brough Park used to be like that, but has improved greatly in the past few years. Redcar's track has got worse and they don't have the restrictions (due to the Greyhound lot) that we have.

On your last point - well, actually, no! I'd rather see Newcastle lose and see terrific speedway, than them win and see the dross served up last night (and on other tracks too, I'd add - it's not just a Redcar problem), but maybe I'm in a minority on that one.

That's the way every track should be . A track prepared for all 14 riders to produce the best racing they possibly can . I get heartily sick of the pursuit of home advantage , we ruined a great track at Glasgow because of this nonsense . If your team wins , all well and good . If it loses , that's life . But give the fans a fair track that riders can race on and perhaps we might hold onto the fans that we have .

I think the track problems at Redcar are simply due to lack of investment. Brian Havelock is notorious for being tight with money, that's why Doolan left and Davey has to buy his own tyres. Getting the crowd in and then spending about an hour making the track half ridable, is unforgivable and probably another nail in the coffin.

Not sure what time track prep started, but was shocked at state of track when I arrived. Had been no rain since three. That being said, although it took a while the track guys did a good job and was argubly the best it's been this season.

Big talking point was the summers/Worrall incident. First thing I would say is that from my angle I thought it was a racing incident. Summers got a lot of speed coming off turn four and maybe took Worrall a bit by surprise by overtaking just before entrance to turn one. I have to say though, from my angle looked like summers did not really give Worrall a great deal of room - on first viewing I thought summers was at fault. I did seem to be in a fairly small minority though. Glad to see both riders up and relatively unharmed.

Thought the bears were good value tonight. Ulrich looked more like a number one, although got away with what appeared to be a flyer in one heat. Skidmore looked off the pace, but looked to still be feels effects of his fall on Saturday. Great too see Kus get a few heat wins, and another good performance from Aaron. Dyer was again excellent and Davey battled very hard for his points.

For newcastle, Robson was excellent and gave it his all. Henry was very up and down, but Iudvig was very impressive again. Said this last time, but very impressed again with Kerr - Leicester must be kicking themselves. Who knows the score if Ritchie had been able to ride - but good to get a win over a very strong side.

Thank you boz for the fairest comments on the meeting, and the incidents last night. I heard the riders and the ref insisted that the track be bladed, and then bends 1 and 3 bladed again, to lesson the grip going in. Didn't think it was a particularly good idea to dump the excess on the apex of the bends from a safety point, but thankfully nobody went near them. The Richie/Aaron incident was a racing accident, but caused be Aaron cutting in across Richies racing line way before the 1st corner, and Richie, trying to get out of it by steering to the outside, got his front wheel hooked onto the back of Aarons bike. Should have been Aaron excluded, but just pleased that both walked back to the pits, Richie withdrawn and Aaron obviously injured, flexing his right leg off the footpeg and did well to continue racing. No surprise that he wasn't in heat 15. I think some of the Redcar fans really should open their eyes and give more slack to Richie. They still go about the Kus incident, from 18 months ago, and now saying he was at fault for not conceding to Aaron after being chopped by him. Oh Dear.

One of the only things that Chris Gay got right all night was insisting on the track being totally bladed, and it did produce a flat safe strip but totally neutral in terms of passing. Dyers pass was only due to Robbo being stuck trying to protect his partner, but on the whole he was top class all night. The gating infringements, pulling back Christian when he made a brilliant gate, and then all allowing the gate from Osterguaard in heat 13 was baffling to say the least.

We got talking to a set of mature Redcar fans, and thoroughly enjoyed their company with some thoughfull banter. We even got invited to stand with them at our next Redcar meeting, and surely that should be the standard of relationships, instead of the henious behaviour toward riders like Richie and genuine Diamonds fans. The usual get out being quoted of 'yes we all have them', but sadly the percentage of those fans at Redcar is not acceptable. And yes, We will probably stand with the same fans next time we go down. Thank you for your company gentlemen.

Great result at the end, Redcar got their win, which they should have after we lost Richie, and the brilliance of the tactical move in heat 15 for the DIamonds to get the 5-1 we needed to get the point.

Not all bad then.

It's like reading a post about Ashfield circa 2001

Ashfield when it was brought back in 1999 was one of the best racing strips in the land.

I'm pretty certain when I say I think most Glasgow fans wish they had never of tinkered with it, in the quest for "Home Advantage" instead using the money to spruce up the stadium to make the fans day out a bit more comfortable.

Thankfully it appears from people posts on here and talking to my old man that the track is once again producing entertaining racing with multiple lines. Whilst surroundings have also been tarted up.

Speedway fans want a winning team, of that I am in doubt. But I would hazard a guess that not many would sacrifice proper speedway racing to get it.

I think the diamonds team will thump Redcar again unless a wet track changes things. I expect a maximum away win of 7 points or more meaning 4 cup points for the championship contenders.

Redcar posters? any chance of local weather updates between now and kick off time?

Schoolboy error

I'm shocked, saddened and very disappointed to read that a Redcar fan had shouted to Worrall "I hope your dead." I hope this person is found / pointed out and banned from speedway stadiums up and down the country.

This also happening on the Birthday of Lee Richardson

This is just unacceptable behaviour. Somebody on here will know who this idiot is.

Providing the statement made by Richie is true.

However we where on the balcony in front of the crash and didn't hear such line. Yes we heard the abuse but it wasn't as bad as being made out in here. As usual the BSF goes over the top.
