So like many lions fans who have gone to watch speedway elsewhere you may end up coming to join us next season, then you will see what speedway racing is about and not gate and gone. Oh and talking of the death of the elite league which has been dying since all the top boys left, doesnt DH see being in that league as the future of leicester speedway, lol he should be looking at the track and not the dying elite league. wandersome
Do you stand and count the spectators coming and going each week - you seen to know your numbers quite well! With all due respect you probably don't need to count the spectators to know, for example, that Nemo's testimonial had way less than half the crowd that Magnus got for his last year. That's in little over a year and Nemo and Karlsson are equally popular riders for the Lions. That was with busloads of Belle Vue and Workington supporters returning from Cardiff on a beautiful sunny day. Did DH attend Nemo's testimonial last week? The White Knight
It is so sad to read so many criticisms of Leicester Speedway. You didn't have a Track for Twenty odd years, now you have one and all a lot of folk do is moan about it. I haven't watched Speedway in my home City of Sunderland for it will be FORTY years next year. I know - I've just had a GREAT idea. Why don't they move Leicester Speedway lock stock and barrel to Sunderland where it would, I am sure, be appreciated. B)
robert72
Robert 72. Serious question. Do you still go to see Leicester Speedway? If so, why. If you don't , why are you so bothered about the numbers going. Doesn't make spence to me. Just seems to be stirring. I know people have a right to air their views, but this seems to have become an obsession with you. I now pick my matches,Why am i so bothered, I care about my local team and what i see is that one man who wont listen to anyone is killing it after a 28 year wait for it to return. Its common knowledge that the crowd is dropping alarmingly and people are fed up with the lack of racing. if DH cares about leicester speedway he would sell it now so that someone can save it from closing. I have to disagree with you comment about the crowd size at Nemo's testimonial, I do not think it was as bad as you make out!! Also where do you get bus loads of fans from Belle Vue and Workington from? There were only 3 coaches parked in the car park, so at most that is 150 people. If you want to estimate the amount of people attending a meeting then may i suggest you start by using the seats, I think they hold 480 people, and so far it has been near enough full every week. I would take a guess that most meetings there is a crowd of between 900 and 1100.

I would take a guess that most meetings there is a crowd of between 900 and 1100. i dont disagree with what you say. i would say 800-1000 as a figure but i'd say 900-1100 could equally be about the mark. I would have put Karlsson's testimonial at well over 2000. The stands were full and it was pretty much two lines of fans all around the stadium. By the time i arrived I remember not being about to get a space on the back fence and certainly no holes on the track fence . The seats hold 400 as far as i'm aware and during a particularly mind numbingly boring meeting lately i did a head count on the stands and it had about 280 in there (admittedly on a night that wasn't the biggest of crowds). So my guess is that generally there are between 280-340 in the stands. Either way, whilst admittedly still more than most clubs get, there aren't a huge number of people going anymore and either way scarily big numbers have stopped going over the last two years. My point is even this time last year and Nemo's testimonial on a lovely sunny sunday i would have expected a crowd nearer 2000.

My point is even this time last year and Nemo's testimonial on a lovely sunny sunday i would have expected a crowd nearer 2000. The reason i say the seats hold 480 is because a football club i was involved in had the same stands on hire, end of season sent them back then re hired them again at the start of the season. if they hold more than 500 they come under different health and safety rules, also need a higher grade cert. To compare the 2 testimonials is not quite right, total different calibre of rider, agree that the numbers have fallen, but i would also put some of this down to neutral fans not turning up because its a new track they have not been to before. I am not trying to argue with anyone, I am not a person who will defend the track or DH for that matter. Although saying that I asked him a question last night and he was more than willing to talk to me and answer my question the best he could. I would like to see the club promoted more!! I buy the local paper most nights, only really get a good spread in that once a week, local radio only seems to be once a month? Local TV never seems to cover speedway!! I would be interested to know how many fans you think is a good crowd that we should have every week? What figure do you think we should have?? I will not be able to reply to your post as i am new on here and only allowed so many post in a period of time. I will read with interest. neb
i think nemo picked the wrong time to have his testimonial what with the pairs at somerset and cardiff folk have only got so much money to spend trying to do all three meetings would be a tad too expensive for most.karlsson picked a perfect time for his being the first meeting for a few months we all wanted our speedway fix plus he had many world class riders in attendance which would of tempted more fans than nemo's although i did very much enjoy nemo's day.shame karlsson's was spoiled by the weather. You might be right Neb, after all It's all swings and roundabouts. Without cardiff Nemo would probably have lost 150 travelling fans but for all i know gained 250 Leicester fans who chose Cardiff over BP. A big name or 2 may also have added a few but the point i'm trying to make is that IMO there would be a lot more Lions fans there for Nemo's gig if the track issue had been addressed before this season or last season. Why else have so many fans disappeared from Leicester. Everything else about the stadium is first rate. The staff are the best you could meet. It's a nice environment once you're in there. And yet large amounts of proper Lions 'hat, scarf and coat wearing' fans have turned their back on the Lions over the last year (take a look at the fan pictures from meetings over the last 3 years in the LSSC facebook site). Someone else also pointed out that we now almost never see fans from other tracks like we did the first season and a half, what haoppened to all the fans in the Bees, Brummies and Wolves coats that used to make it over for meetings and i agree. That's not to say i'm wrong. it is just my opinion. Mick.
robert72
Your right mick the stadium is great but that wont keep fans wanting to come back, people have said long eaton was a dump but it had an amazing race track, seen many good races there. Fans are not coming anymore from local tracks like they were because of the track, lions hardcore fans are slowly going elswhere,DH is not helping the future of leicester speedway,Sad thing is had DH listened to experts in the first place and got the track right i am sure leicester would of been the best supported club in speedway. sad that its in a real mess and the future looks bleak
