Firestone1
Very gate and go meeting tonight but pleased with the way the Comets fought back from 15 points down to be in a position to steal a point in heat 15, sadly Rene was a bit eager. Nice to see Kyle scoring well and pleased with Ashley's effort too.

Mauger_Magic
Fancy the Diamonds to win the league this year.
NJC71
Interesting rather than exciting meeting with not a lot of passing but plenty of incident. The Diamonds were typically sharp out of the start in the early heats and despite engine trouble for Robbo and an unfortunate fall for Lewis (snapped chain?) when well in front in heat 2, looked in complete control. Indeed with none of the top 4 having dropped a genuine point in the first 8 heats a real drubbing looked on the cards.  But the meeting changed in heat 9 when, with Rene on the second tactical, Henry fell on the first bend with the Diamonds having gated on a 5-1. As always seems to happen in these situations, Rene flew out of the gate to win the re-run turning a probable 5-1 into a 2-7 giving the visitors a chance of a point.  All of a sudden Howarth and Lawson, who had both been ordinary up until then, suddenly found some speed and things became a little uncomfortable for the Diamonds. The luck though levelled out a little in the deciding heat 15 when Rene went through the tapes and that was that with Richie and Ludvig riding a superb first bend in the re-run to leave Lawson trailing.  Overall I think it was a fair outcome as losing a point would have been very harsh on the Diamonds.  Despite those falls and engine problems the Diamonds again looked impressive. Henry was the pick of the bunch only being denied a 6 ride full house by that heat 9 fall. Ludvig and Richie were outstanding again. Easy to forget that this is only Richie’s third year in the sport with a broken leg thrown in. His progress over the last 12 months has really been extraordinary. Lewis was unlucky tonight and whilst not as quick as last week was far better than his 3 point return suggests. We just need to get Steve going as he looks a little down on speed and confidence at the moment.  Had Workington started the match like they finished it this would have been close but it took them too long to get going.  One last point was the mess Howarth and Harrison made of the first tactical in heat 7. Did Kyle not realise Harrison was on a tactical or is this the result of the new bonus payment regulations. Either way it could easily have cost Workington a point. Arson fire
Rene jumped the start when in black and white but the ref let it go.... Saying that... Once a Geordie always a Geordie as he again did us favors in heat 15......well done agent Rene  Howarth never looked back once to let rusty through, but saying that ... Rusty was miles behind. Django
Very dull meeting of gate and go and a ridiculous amount of track grading, I mean why grade during the sun delay then again the very next heat?!? Newcastle have their set ups nailed for their home matches, as you'd expect. It took the Comets at least 2 heats each to get dialled in, once they did they looked ok. Must say I have been impressed with the team riding of the Diamonds in all 4 matches, especially Lindgren, our boys could learn something from that. The R/R has worked very well in Tullys absence giving Robson, Worrall and Lindgren extra rides, better than Tully could do? Probably

Tsunami
People said this would happen with the removal of the bonus point payment. So no surprise. Â Or, that Howarth was that far ahead of Rusty, who was desperately fighting to keep ahead of our reserve, he did look back on the last lap and realised he could not decelerate that quickly to let Rusty get ahead of him. What the hell, i was there.

We are an excellent team at home just as you are, but the same set ups weren't working as they had towards the end of the last Newcastle meeting so had to change. It's not an excuse, it's a fact. For the record I believe Newcastle will probably top the league this year, but maybe we may just pip you guys in the play offs!

What the hell, i was there. I thought he looked back far too late. When a rider is on a tactical you would think there would be more awareness. The only time Howarth looked back was coming off the final bend and Harrison would have needed to be pretty close to pass him by then. Harrison was in third for all but the first bend so for me they just messed it up but to be fair it's a big ask when it now costs a rider money. skittle_face
People said this would happen with the removal of the bonus point payment. So no surprise. Â From memory was it not said that bonus points were not to be paid unless in the instance of tactical rides to prevent a rider not slowing down and allowing his partner past? Â Therefore what happened tonight was not about money and in my view similar to that of Tsunami that it took Rusty Harrison too long to shake of the attentions of Steve Worrall meaning Howarth got too far in front to safely slow down and allow him past
WSF
Tully flys round Brough? In his two meetings there for Edinburgh last year he got 2 & 2 then 9 off 5 rides.
KEITH M
Â Â Â it took Rusty Harrison too long to shake of the attentions of Steve Worrall Howarth wouldn't of known that though as he only looked around once and that was coming off the final bend

Paulco
Happy to be corrected but is there any need for the insulting tone. Jees... You get used to Backless ' charm and friendliness  I thought he looked back far too late. When a rider is on a tactical you would think there would be more awareness. The only time a third placed rider , when finishing directly behind his 2nd placed team-mate , gets paid bonus point money is actually when that team-mate is on a t/r

Chewbacca
Very dull meeting of gate and go and a ridiculous amount of track grading, I mean why grade during the sun delay then again the very next heat?!? Â Some of the track grading was because Newcastle riders had two on the trot due to rider replacement. It's a tactic seen all over the country. Agreed that it was a poor meeting with races generally settled from the gate. Â The whole meeting seemed a bit odd as Newcastle were obviously thrashing Workington all the way through only for the Comets to have the chance of a point in heat 15. The wonders of tactical rides eh?
