Mr Blobby
Good win for the mighty monarchs tonight even with Derek having an off night. I think we are now safely through to the next round of the league cup can't see the bandits or the tigers beating us at Armadale.
rgcumming
Before we all start casting our minds to next season after our season ended tonight (tongue in cheek by the way!), bear in mind that Edinburgh have a very strong team and are much fancied to challenge for honours this year. However, it must be said that our reserve pairing are going to come under some serious questioning after another home defeat. The foundation of any successful team is at least one reserve to be knocking in 6-8 points per meeting and taking points from opposing heat leaders and middle order riders. Certainly at home anyway. This has not happened so far from either reserve. Granted both are recovering from injuries and will need time to get going. However from the point of view of crowd levels and sustaining the future of speedway, how much time can they be allowed in a losing side desperate to boost crowd levels.
bigeddiechek
Bellegeo was superb for us, Kozza is getting back to form, Matty nice and solid. Cook and Vissing = different class. Cook took the time to explain why he was looking at the track to the 3rd bend guys. Good on him, very gentlemanly in his reply, Better racing, but a few concerns in the team,
DSC67
On a night when we needed all the guys to be on their mark unfortunately there where week links in chain tonight , Alex and Robin had particularly bad nights and questions will need to be asked about the performances of certain riders tonight , particularly our reserves although Nicki did improve in the later stages of the meeting , Edinburgh had 3 riders who only scored 6 points between them with a half decent score from our reserves we could have won this , anyways that's the league cup & the KO gone now , onwards and upwards bring on the premier league . Fromafar
Edinburgh were the better team and deserved their win .thought Barrett improved as the meeting went on and got used to the track that was different again from last week. Edberg was woeful and there has to be concerns regarding his form.one question I have ask about track prep is ,Why is the outside line into the 3rd bend prepared with so much dirt on the outside going into the bend when none of the riders are prepared to use that part of the track until very late in the meeting after it has been graded all night, surely it would benefit the entertainment if riders were prepared to use it All meeting. This is only my observation and their might be a valid reason for this though watching tonights GP the riders were using all of the track for all of the meeting.Hope the 2 juniors that had nasty falls tonight are not to badly injured and wish them a speedy recovery.
cyclone
Despite the scarcity of passing after heat 2, the closeness of the score made this a taut affair right up to the final heat. However in the final analysis, the advantage of starting off gates 2 & 4 all night, left Berwick with a near impossible task in heat 15 against the imperious Cook & Vissing pairing. Bandits should not be to downhearted and reflect that last week, 14 points were amassed by Alden, guesting for the absent Ashworth, compared to r/r producing only 5 last night. I feel sympathy for the Berwick Promotion who apparently are unable to make any radical alterations to the shape and dimensions of the track, due to the restrictions placed on them by their Football Club landlords. Too many excuses, there's no injuries at the moment too blame so we will blame the track, Berwick is still as one dimensional as it was 2,4, 6 years ago it hasn't changed and nor would Unibax Torun using it as there home track bring much better racing either. We can't change the track and to be honest its one of the things that make Berwick unique. The management wont change but what can change is how we prepare conditions too suit the majority of OUR riders and the personnel who wear our colors. I wont speculate to accumlate on that one, we have a team manager who I am sure is monitering the situation with the finest detail. What worries me is the team is rather shapeless at the moment. We have no head figure who I can say will score 12 points next meeting. Bellego was excellent tonight but could easily score 3 in his next meeting home and away. Nicki Barrett hes a good signing not convinced Berwick is his kinda track. It's gonna take a big personality and extra adrenaline to pull the Bandits out of there current rut. Do we have a motivational character in our pit lane or somebody in the promotion who will get amongst it. We are currently sandwhiched between two successful sides, they are no better than us, tracks poor, riders about the same, what's different? have a think....... Final thought Berwick fans bemoaned about the fact we didnt re-sign Micky D. Well Edinburgh let him go and look at them now and still made the Top without Cookie for the last 6 8 weeks of the season. Its a winning mentality, I hope we find that someday Edited April 21, 2013 by RobinH88
fred
My team won last night and has to be said i won't be back. Apart from heat one races were over by the exit of bend two! Races strung out by the length of the straight with no passing what so ever apart from Vissing passing weathers. Berwick riders gate they look great but when they miss the start they are a long long way behind. I seriously can't wait for the sky match and how Chris and his tv will talk the track up and talk about passing lines and then we will see races over by bend two and riders strung out by lengths of the straight.

Too much grip on the entry to the any turn isnt how you want to prepare a track, as at worst you cant get the back wheel to turn & at best it will force you wide into the fence on turn 4 or so wide you cant use the space on the banking, hence turn 4 only comes into play as the grip lessens overall allowing a controlled entry to turn 4 Edited April 21, 2013 by Dekker
screm
The loss of Ashworth was always going to make the task harder but Berwicks lack of gating skills and was once again the achilies heel for the home side.Time and time again they were left at the gates and once again on a track that proved very very difficult to make any passing moves their chances of winning was gone. That said Cook and Vissing were excellent, and if theres a better No1 than Cook right now in the PL I love to see him,the guy is on fire right now.Hes back up by Vissing who if anything has made the Edinburgh team stronger after he replaced the visaless Masters.Add in the fact Edinburgh have a reserve who can be slotted into races anytime and score points and you have in ingredients of a winning team. Smith,Wethers and especially Bellego can be proud of their nights work, maybe Barrett to who at least was in amongst things in most of his races.Asprgren and Edberg had nights to forget, especially Edberg who looked woeful, slow from the gate and uninterested in racing and no matter how many racesuits he throws at the team his form and position in the team must be coming to the attention of the promotion.Edberg could be a big scorer at reserve and at Shielfield especially so whatever the issues are they need ironed out asap. The night was marred by an untidy looking crash in the 1st race of the NJL meeting, with Farbaby and McBain coming down, after extensive treatment to both riders on track the meeting was abandoned.Hopefully both riders will have escaped any serious injury and they will be up and at`em very soon.
rgcumming
One can only imagine the potential embarrassment of 15 televised heats of gate and gone. Article in the speedway star this week states the track team are working on improving the track to suit the riders. Maybe they should speak to Lee Complin and Jade Mudgway who both had no problems passing people in recent times. Watching the GP last night and the racing throughout was superb. People tuning in to watch us in May will expect the same product and unfortunately it could potentially have a detrimental effect on our crowd levels. I hate to be negative as I really look forward to my Saturday night at the speedway but something needs to give to move our season forward.

To be honest if the materials not there to make things work, then even Complin would struggle to find a pass.Im sure changes will be made to the track over the next few weeks to give the riders more oppotunity for passing, thing is though anymore home defeats for Berwick and some fans might not be there to see it. This is the point many are misinterpreting. Whilst the die hard fans will go week in week out, the casual fans who are wooed by the promise of exciting racing are the ones who will not return. I'm sure as you say Screm that the track will improve as the weather gets better. The team should hopefully improve alongside the weather and we will all be happy! SCOTLAND1314
Courtesy of Edinburgh Monarchs Speedway http://www.edinburghmonarchs.co/news/article.asp?id=1308 A good support travelled down to follow Edinburgh last night home support looked a little sparse (maybe GP night kept a few indoors, perhaps other reasons). First couple of heats were very odd as it looked as if most riders were very tentative on a 'new' surface. Thereafter it was almost completely FTG. Only the scoreline keeping it semi interesting and when Bellego's valiant effort to stem the tide came to heats 13 and 15 even he couldn't stop the flying Cookie and Claus show. Healthy returns from the Cookie and Claus Show, Theo and Wee Joe with the others chipping in a few. For Berwick the star of the show was Bellego with Smith and Wethers helping out against the big boys a bit, Barrett came onto a game but Aspegren was poor and Edberg poorer. Any news on the juniors crash? It looked a sore one.

I quite agree Edberg was shocking gave up after second bend in every race.I was told they had put extra shale on the track on the track but did not seem to make any difference perhaps we should be looking for help in term of track prep maybe Doc Bridgett who always has Armadale well prepared. We will get soundly beaten on Friday night only my thoughts.Hope Matty has a good night and can pass on some useful tips to his teammates. If Rickys still out would have Grievesy in.Re sky wonder what they will make of starting marshall who seems to wait for the riders to come to the tapes themselves. I suppose it depends on what he means by been scared. Scared of letting the side down. Scared of letting the fans down. Scared of letting his old man down. Scared of the track. or Scared of riding a bike. If its the latter two answers then he really needs to think about his future because he could be a danger to himself and other riders. I really do think that his old man did him no favours buying the team kevlars all it does is put added pressure on the lad and with his injury problems the lad needs is added pressure
