Dietbowers
Thought it was a decent enough meeting even though I wasn`t in the singing mood. How everyone missed Kurtz in heat 4 when his bike packed up I`ve no idea..rider of the night for me was Alex Davies,he seems to have come on quite well this season so far. Bagpuss
Not at all suprised by Stefan's scoring, he's a very talented young fella.
Roger Jacobs
I said it earlier on in the thread too, but other than one poor away meeting at Ipswich which was somewhat surprising, Stefan has been a revelation for us as far as I'm concerned so far. I'm still incredibly surprised that Nielsen was never offered the chance to ride for Ipswich this season. He said he was surprised too, when interviewed by Kevin Long for Rerun Productions - don't forget to buy the DVD it was a very entertaining match, with several post-1st/2nd passes and lots of incident. PS: Somerset signed Nielsen and he had never even seen the OTA, let alone ridden on it! Edited April 20, 2013 by Dave Love Speedway
rustyre bel1
after last night will do well to get any points at Plymouth tonight
Bagpuss
Had the equally talented Ellis not emerged I expect Stefan would have been offered a spot. I think Perry and Reade are both crying out for the NL season to get going and will improve once they get some of those meetings under their belts. Cliffeboy
Oh dear, firstly I was not there last night so the following comments are only made from what i get from other people. We do not become an iffy team because of one performance.I agree Tom needs to up his game based on recent displays, give him time, I`m sure that once he gets a few decent scores for IOW and a bit of confidence going he will be ok. As I pointed out in a previous post,we have something to aim for tonight and I believe that all the boys will be on the money tonight especially the skipper, it would not surprise me if we won tonight. We were unfortunate not to get closer in the challenge, and had some pretty crappy luck at Ippo, but that`s speedway I suppose. As for the track, no matter what anyone says,it remains one of the best racing strips in the league, there may be some problems with it at the moment, which I`m thinking is probibly something to do with the up and down weather we are experiencing. Jason Crump no less described it as " a cool track, he enjoyed racing on" Love that post about being closer to the racing gives the perception of great racing, rubbish. Roger Jacobs
Love that post about being closer to the racing gives the perception of great racing, rubbish. It absolutely does both improve the atmosphere and also gives you a much better perspective of the racing. Ipswich v Somerset was a very good match (the only bad luck the Rabbles had was Doyle's ef), and I'm certain that if those same races had taken place at, e.g. the OTA or EWR or King's Lynn, then those present would have been raving about it as the match of the season. Irrespective of the quality of racing there's always a little bit missing at Foxhall because of the viewing distance and the comparative size of the stadium. Back in the 70s, when the crowds were regularly 10,000, there was a genuine atmosphere. I can't imagine what it would have been like in the 50s with 20,000 in attendance every week. Starman2006
They aren't the only ones - I'm by no means calling for his head, but Tom Perry is seriously going to have to start upping his game. After having a season to find his feet, he should of been kicking on this season. However Stefan has come in and completely over shadowed Tom and the pressure must be building as a score of 1+1 on your home track simply isn't good enough. I Don't get on Tom s back mate, give him time. He's plenty good enough. Like our reserves, he will have bad days and better days, he's still learning.

What about Davies concussion, Nielsen not finishing a race, Morris laying the bike down, and unbeaten Doyle (again) ef, thats a fair amount of bad luck in my book, which would affect the score in most matches. But hey ho s**t happens, hopefully we will make a better fist of it next time we play you.I take your point about the 70`s, my team then The Wembley Lions used to get 10.000 plus every week, my dad tells me that in the 50`s you were looking at 80.000 every week at the Empire Stadium, incredible. Falls are not bad luck per se. The falls by Davies, Nielsen and Newman (and Makinen & Ellis) were all of their own making. Heeps was unlucky being rammed by Davies. Perry was unlucky trying avoid Nielsen but clipping his fallen teammate. Morris laid his bike down when he was thundering into the outside of the third turn trying to catch Heeps and the red lights came on, because although Nielsen had fallen earlier (in the same place as previously) and then stood up, Dan Holt (like a lot of us) didn't realise Nielsen had then crumpled in pain on the track. Fortunately, both Lanham & Heeps managed to avoid Nielsen and his bike - I think Morris's momentum and line gave him little option but to lay it down. I was very surprised the ref decided to declare the race, so to be fair you could say that was bad luck. On the other hand, you could say that Morris's line & momentum meant he might never have got round the 3rd/4th bends - we will never know either way. If I was able to attend on a regular basis any track where you can stand close to the racing, I would be there like a shot (including KL and P'boro). If I lived in travelling distance of Somerset or Swindon, I would choose the OTA for precisely that reason. The new back straight stand - stunning viewing.
torpointfanatic22
Plymouth kept that a lot closer than I thought, well done to them for their point. Seems harsh to consider dropping a young Brit but for me the Devils look one rider (ie a half decent number 7) away from being a good side. Indeed it seems when our boys get going we could well be in the mix as I expected the Rebels to take all the points. Chuffed for Schrammy to get paid 9 and I'm told he rode really well. I see your point about Reade and Ben does appear to be struggling but there aren't many 3 pointer's out there who could do much better. I'd definitely consider Paul Starke though if were looking to replace him. In all honesty though Ben scoring zero isn't to be unexpected at this stage and by all accounts it's only his first turns that are letting him down (from what I've seen of him this year). It was nice to see Ricky get a decent haul and hopefully he'll continue that but Lemo is still a worry - I'd ask the question of what would we get more out of at this stage a like for like replacement for Reade who will perhaps get 3 or 4 each match or replacing Lemo with an 8 pointer? I'm not calling for changes but just putting it out there.
lewy
mikey i think with lemmos experience he will get things sorted already showing signs of getting the sba dialled in he said in interview that his engines were to strong but spent all saturday afternoon working on it at the sba and his points total against somerset at home suggests hes getting it worked out, ithink long term this is the the best decision for ben,as for paul starke reached his level at national league second string hasnt improved for 2 or three seasons nice lad but not going to make the grade at prem level imo
