luluthetiger
A very nice message on the Berwick website from the promotion, thanking their fans for making Tuesday night so special. http://www.berwickba...-fantastic-fans Terrific PR -- how many other clubs might just have taken their public for granted after the event? Very, very good to see. They really are proving what can be done if people care enough to make an effort

Great to read that, and a splendid and honest message to send out to all those involved. Must admit it was one of the best meetings/events that I have attended in speedway and that was largely down to the Berwick management team and their helpers. Wouldn't it be great to have one of these meetings every year in the North East and it be held in the carnival spirit that Tuesdays meeting experienced. There will be no wiping this meeting off the SKY box.
The White Knight
Terrific bit of PR and a super read. Nice to hear Supporters of BOTH Teams being praised. Watching on the Telly it really DID come over as a party atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed the Meeting. Naturally I was delighted with the Result - BUT - it takes TWO Teams to put on a Meeting like that. Praise must go to ALL Riders for a tremendous effort. The Berwick Promotion deserve any success that comes their way (as long as it isn't against us )
albyhere
Have to agree about the super piece of PR from Berwick's promotion. What I would love to see now is another Sky meeting, between my own club, the incomparable Glasgow Tigers and Berwick, or if not them, then the other, not quite so good Scottish team, the Monarchs. The match was great to watch and I just know if our lot got together then it would make for some brilliant TV. Both Berwick and our new promoters are doing sterling work in trying to make speedway meetings more attractive, and we too get regular newsletters along the same lines trying to instill some real passion and interest in our sport, and our Tigers. So well done both of them, they richly deserve any and all benefits that come their way. Now, who do we contact to get Sky further up the A1 ?
Django
With this match and the Scunthorpe vs Workington one in April the Sky cameras have witnessed two great meetings. i think they should just bin the dull Elite League and focus on the Premier! It will never happen though. Hope the Somerset vs Edinburgh match is a good one too
SCB
Just SCB talking sh!t again. Should have guessed you'd be happy to ignore the rules again So why does the rulebook say double uppers have to give priority to British Speedway if they can ride in Sweden ahead of a British League meeting? wjm
A meeting that proved, despite the doom and gloom and bad press the sport gets (a lot of it unnecessary and a lot of it on this forum). It is actually a pretty simple sport, that works well when you simply get the basics right. Political nonsense, RR, riders missing meetings for whatever reasons, when you get 4 riders on a decent race track, does it really matter? The Starke incident, sure it was a bit naughty, but did it really hurt anyone? Does a wee bit of controversy and niggle really do that much harm? Berwicks promotion get a lot of praise, and a lot of it is deserved, what is happening, and has happened at Berwick over the last few years, is special, the reality is that the promotion have punched well above their weight given the location of Berwick. When you stand there and see meetings like GP Qualifiers, the Ben Fund, a Sky meeting etc, you all know the drill, it is hard not to praise them and look at Berwick as a model for other clubs to follow, looking after fans, thanking them for their efforts, the presentation of the stadium, the simple upgrades to facilities that go a long way. There are other clubs who do things well, Newcastle, Glasgow, Workington, Lakeside. It doesn’t have to be complicated, and there doesn’t need to be the niggle that some seem to thrive on and want to exist. Clubs don’t need to overpay riders and win by 50 points every week for their “model” to work. You often read on here that the sport is “dying” some clubs, meetings, incidents etc, they do offer hope.

Nice to see the promotion coming out to say thank,as it says in the peice the night was a success off track, good crowd,an entertaining meeting for those that were there and just importantly a good meeting for the armchair fans.On track in terms of the result was the disapointing thing, had Berwick got a last heat 5-1 I think Nigel Pearson wouldve exploded. I hope the promotion put as much effort into promoting every meeting from here on in,as it just goes to show what can be achieved.

bigeddiechek
Nice to come on and see so many posts praising the hard work done by the Promotion. Of course, it was not about a few weeks of promotion before the Sky meeting, promotion is a continuous long term process. It's great to finally see recognition for the years of hard work that has been put in. With regard to the phone ahead if you have a newcomer: I can tell you last year I did that with a Canadian visitor and he and his son were treated like royalty, at no extra cost. They loved it! It's been a very revealing thread this one...
Mixy230
Just nipped in to a work place of mine (Because I had to) 1 of the guys called me over (We always have a chat about speedway & he is a 30 year plus fan) He was beaming "Did you see the Speedway on TV this week"? Well done all
freddyfivetoes
So what happened about the priority rule for rearranged fixtures. Oh, you forgot about that, or conveniently didn't mention it. Thankfully, I see Ludvig's situation has now earned a thread of its own on "Speedway News & Discussions", so SCB, Tsunami et al can take their squabbling out of this one and leave us in peace......... A very nice message on the Berwick website from the promotion, thanking their fans for making Tuesday night so special. http://www.berwickba...-fantastic-fans Terrific PR -- how many other clubs might just have taken their public for granted after the event? Like everyone has said, a really good job has been done at Berwick in recent years -- this is just another example.

freddyfivetoes
Over 200 posts since the meeting, and while there has been negative discussion over Paul Starke and Ludvig Lindgren, there has not been one post which has criticised the track, the racing, the stadium facilities, the presentation or the broadcast -- virtually 100% approval rating. Which is amazing for a thread involving Berwick! In truth, it was a good night's viewing on Sky, maybe their best overall production of the year so far. For which the Berwick promotion has to be praised hugely. They created the product, and provided a very large and very enthusiastic live audience. Sky caught hold of the crowd's good vibrations, and gave us viewers a programme which would be seen around the world, showing what can still be good about speedway in the UK. I just hope the next few EL meetings are as well-presented and as well-attended.

jenga
you have no chance of getting the fans in the tv frame. in the lite league. unless they are all going shopping in Tesco at the same time. lite crowds are very poor.and the pl put all the snobs to shame ,( fan wise)...well done Berwick speedway... the elite league.. you can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig...
dantodan
All that went wrong for the Bandits was that they got beat by the "enemy". I have watched many Newcastle visits to Shielfield and this is the first I can remember where we didn't get stuffed time after time by the home riders sweeping around the 4th bend. I think that bend produces some great overtaking manoeuvres and should be the blueprint for any trackman building a new track. I haven't see the match on TV yet and I am really looking forward to seeing it all again so I can have another rant at Paul Starke who rode very well apart from that incident
screm
Giving the meeting we had on Sky last tuesday, tonights efforts at Poole make me take back everything Ive ever said about our track at Shielfield. Simply shocking.
freddyfivetoes
Not just the track, which was awful, I agree. The infield was untrimmed and shaggy, there seemed to be only one (admittedly, a small New Holland job) tractor in service -- and the way the airfence parted to let Rory Schlein pass through and whack into the metal retaining fence was frightening. What is worse -- Poole are one of the smarter EL circuits!
