Berwick V Newcastle - Live On Sky - May 21st

How much did Bellego get fined for getting himself a ban ??

The referee couldn't fine him when he was suspended several days before the event. Starke let himself down and brought the sport into disrepute, in the full glare of the cameras. We had enough of that in the past with newspaper exposures....No wonder the sport isn't taken seriously.

Yes he did himself no favours, hopefully it will be an ever bigger lesson learned.

Apart from the dive Starke had another useful meeting for Berwick.

Honestly, it is really no big deal. The opposition responded in the required manner.

You'd think he was Lance Armstrong the way you are going on

What is a big deal is the fact Sky came to Shielfield in the first place, the excellent show that was put on, and a good close meeting that the best team won in the final few heats.

The magnificent performance by Kerr is also something worth talking about.

The atmosphere on the 3rd bend was incredible with acknowledgement from Nigel, Chris and Charlie. Kozza also made a point of stopping off a couple of times.

It's one of the most enjoyable nights out I've had for a long time, and the Bandits have captured a few new fans to boot.

What did the girlfriend think of it?

Bellego was banned, but not fined, by the FFM.

Paul Starke was fined, but not banned, by the SCB

Newcastle and Ludvig Lindgren will both have been fined, probably quite stiffly, by the BSPA.

Come on -- you see £50k-a-week footballers "simulating" injury every match you watch in the full glare of their cameras.

Yes, the guy stayed down after laying down to avoid what he thought was going to be an incident in front of him. He was right to lay down and wrong to stay down -- and the referee excluded and fined him.

Get over it.

Im sure Pearson said that Edward was on a 1month loan,So perhaps Ricky will be back before Berwicks next Home meeting.

Yes I heard that to,for the amount their going to get used,if thats the case, their a helluva expensive set of kevlars Kennetts got.

I posted a while ago that as things stand there are no fixture clashes between Berwick & Swindon,so now he is getting extra income from the PL,you`d think Kennett would be keen to keep the arrangement going for as long as possible.Indeed,if he stays long enough he would get an average that might help him get a doubling up position for next year, whether thats a Berwick of course is another matter.

I don't agree that he put it down to avoid that, he wasn't that near.

I don't agree that he put it down to avoid that, he wasn't that near.

On the same bend, going at 30 m/s, it looked as if it was avoiding action from where I was: admittedly the opposite side of the stadium, and without the benefit of having seen it on TV.

It really isn't a big deal though.

There are just some people who are so jealous that Berwick are leading the way in speedway promotion that they jump on anything that they possibly can.

That tends to happen in small towns though, so not surprising.

It was, no matter what the few say, a spectacular event made by a cracking performance from a depleted visiting team.

That is really what is worth talking about.

I think that the Berwick Promotion and the Premier League came of last night meeting with a lot of credit.

The track looked good, better than what I had been told and read about.

Good sizeable crowds who made plenty of noise.

Kozza Smith reminding me why I love the sport with his all action style.

I think also last night proved that big guns like Eddie (sorry Edward) Kennett are not finding the Premier League easy money.

The only down side from last night was Paul Starke incident, not so much the incident itself, but the reaction of when Starke returned to the pits and Promoter Geoarge Hepburn laughing, hugging and kissing Starke as though he was his long lost illegitimate son, not wise when the camera's are in the pits.

Also very impressed with the lad Lewis Kerr, I thought he did really well, and looks to be a fine prospect, Leicester must be kicking themselves.

End of the day the best team won, but the Berwick promotion come out of this generally looking good, hopefully the crowds will stick with them. .

But I thought you agreed it was gamesmanship rather than cheating?

Which is what it was.

Cracking meeting though, all the same :)

Pearson said he was _initially_ signed on a one month loan. I think he then said it had been extended. when "pretty but dim" interviewed him he said he signed for Berwick because one meeting a week in the Elite League wasn't enough.

cant recall ever agreeing with you Ed, think it was more a case of you not wanting to be critical and telling it as it is. You skirt around more than a skirty around thing. :)

Edward Kennett is riding for Berwick on an open-ended loan from Swindon.

I was told during the past week he has no "end date" to the loan in mind, and will enjoy the regular income the deal brings, not least as he will (like all Berwick riders) get his cash on the barrelhead every week.

So whats the plan to turn things around? I make that 4 losses at home? Ricky for Ed going to improve our fortunes?

Here he comes....

You might have noticed that I have been critical this season.

I'm really not happy clappy you know ;)

When a meeting - and showcase - like last night is produced, it really is fickle, and baboon-like, to be critical.

Thoroughly enjoyed last night`s match, not sure if Newcastle were very good, or Berwick were very bad. The Diamonds were certainly out of the traps very sharp all night, but two of their number failed to beat an oppenant,so they were basically a four man team, extraordinary. Kozza was good entertainment as was young Kerr. Robbo played a captains role and Ritchie is looking a very good prospect. How good can Newcastle be when Lindgren and Tully are riding, happy days for the Geordies at the moment.

as a neutral i think that some especaly chris louis got a bit carried away

paul starke is not what you would call a experienced rider and my view is he over reacted to kozza getting out of shape and went down

but i do think he could possibly have got up quicker if he really wanted too

I think most people agree the Promotion done Berwick proud in promoting the sport in the area, however it is common knowledge that Speedway as a sport is going through tough times if last nights meeting doesn't tempt fans back then who knows what the answer is .The unfortunate thing is the Team is struggling, again mainly through injuries and not much luck. A winning Team means a lot to sports fans these days espiecially new younger fans.So we need to get back on track regarding Home results.I disagree with Chris Louis assessment that Berwick have big Home advantage as most riders appear to fly round if they hit the front.Ian Rea was correct in his assessment that we should be gating and riding better 1st Bends. Here's hoping the crowd levels improve after last nights meeting.

not critical of anything apart from Starke, and your justifying of it, Berwick put on a superb show as all ready stated, it's not fickle it's fact. You have to grow a pair and take both praise and criticism in they same way. :)
