dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
Back home. More than a little bemused. I havent seen the track but when I got there with half hour to start time rain had stopped and sun was out with no apparent chance of more.

Super Blue
Its an absolute joke ! Ipswich speedway does absolutely bloody nothing to help themselves and their customer service bleeding sucks !! They had my money approximately 30 seconds when it was called off and do you think they would give it back ? Would they f**k ! I know they can't help the weather or what the ref decides but seriously they need to start thinking about keeping what few customers they have left happy ! I know I will use the readmission ticket but my son may not get the chance because of other commitments ! Come on Louis , start treating you're customers the way I'm sure you would like to be treated , with a little respect ! Rant over .

Albert
From what previous posters have written it appears that there was very little effort made to save the meeting? ......if the rain had stopped and the sun was out...could they not have delayed the start for 30 mins? aussiegirl
What a joke of a decision to call it off! Yes there had been a heavy shower but it stopped as quickly as it came and it was bright and sunny! Track looked good and was indoubtably raceable maybe a bit greasy for the first few heats but that's all. Every Scunthorpe rider wanted to ride - it was clear the Ipswich riders didn't!! This kind of thing does nothing to help the sport and the ailing crowds - Chris Louis you should be ashamed when you look at some of conditions the Sky meetings you've been at have been run in compared with tonight's track!!! Sorry super blue but when has the foxhall management ever treated their few fans with respect??? Its no surprise to me fans were let in knowing the meeting would probably be off, its happened many times before and will undoubtedly happen many more times. Customer relations do not exist Im afraid once the season has started. Luckily enough I was only half way to the track when I knew the meeting was off, so could turn round and head home and drive the missus mad
Roger Jacobs
Edited to delete all the guff. Montie - I only saw one Scunthorpe fan there, and apparently he was Rob Peasley - so is that you? Tom Thumb
We spoke to Peter Simmons after the announcement and he said the decision to call the meeting was made by the Ref (mick bates I think) after consulting with Leigh Lanham & David Howe. Jonny the spud
I was told that too, if the ref says no, then it's no.

2ndbendbeerhut
If more rain was forecast then so be it, but to call off at 7pm when efforts had been made by supporters to travel and some were in the stadium, is wrong IMO. So what if a delay to make the track rideable, which it possibly was anyway, was needed. More and more times meetings are called off for flimsy reasons. No wonder fans are voting with their feet. As for the away team wanting to ride, isn't that always the case?

Halifaxtiger
I don't think any promotion would call a match off when the fans and riders were there unless they absolutely had to. Rain offs in such circumstances cost the home team thousands.
Badge
I was told that too, if the ref says no, then it's no. Jonny, you'll soon learn that everyman and his dog know better than the officials who have to make these difficult decisions. And make no mistake, the riders certainly shouldn't have a say Edited April 18, 2013 by Badge
Lewis
Take a look at twitter (David Howe, Rob Godfrey etc) to find out who wanted to ride, looks like it was the refs call in the end. Looking at the picture from Dave loves speedway post it just looks like the track needed grading?, no standing water. I was going to travel and watch this but something came up at home so I'm glad I didnt waste a 5 hour round trip.
Jonny the spud
I can only add one comment from a riders point of view as I actually raced sidecars all over europe in the 90's,Tracks may look rideable, and if you're in first place without spray / mud / shale / sand etc ... to a certain extent they are, however Imagine going into a corner at full speed, you bang it sideways , you can hear a bike in front of you, you can hear a bike next to you, in fact all you can do is hear other bikes but because of the crap flying off the bike in front clogging your goggles, you cant see any of them, you also can't see the inside of the track, the outside of the track or indeed anything at all. Phil morris had that at La Reole longtrack in the 90's. He said to me, "i didn't know exactly where i was, i thought i'd turned enough in the corner, maybe even a bit too much, so i gassed it"........ that was about half a second before he slammed into the outside fence breaking quite a few bones. Still think riders bottle it ?
Baldyman
I sat outside because of the rain, not getting my money for nothing, been there done that. Maybe it was called off because the track had been watered all day and just wasn't able to cope with that last shower? A track can be water logged without puddles being all over it, maybe that was the case. Only the riders and ref know. Just remember the next trick when you still get charged full price for a programme with old news in it when they re stage the meeting. Maybe tomorrow night someone can ask David or Leigh if the track was raceable or not Edited April 18, 2013 by Baldyman
