Season Start

Recommended Posts

do you think the season start too early (march) . i think it should start near the end of April to avoid the iffy track syndrome . speedway should be a summer sport,t shirts ans shorts. we need to attract the younger element of fans to the sport.its been a really cold start to the season and this is having an effect on all the attendance levels .. kids are stopping away . they are the next gen of supporters.. speedway meetings could run double headers mid season to catch up on fixtures.

So which part of last summer was shorts weather (without wellies?)

The end of February through the whole of March would have been the best time to shove the season through.

Some tracks might be "iffy", others aren't.

Or maybe matches should be called off when it's cold?

I think the Elite League season starts far too early. Just why do we need to start the season in March when each team only has 14 home matches and has to mid Septempter to compete them. I know we need reserved dates, but its just too stop/start and drawn out. The Brummies race home meetings every two weeks until July!! and dont have another away match in over a month. Not ideal

Rugby League changed to summer to try to improve on crowds and not compete with football, but its gone backwards over the last few years. It still goes by the its a summer rugby but thats utter rubbish. Football wants a break in winter as its too cold, meaning the season will encroach on summer. Speedway is traditionally a type of good weather sport, but we dont have that much good weather.

Bottom line is 30 years ago we had summer, autumn, winter and spring. The climate has changed and anyone who thinks it hasnt only has to look over the last 5 years.

Probably a lot will think that a season from end of April to early September is far too short, but if restructuring and business sense was applied it would be sound business sense.

I am happy the way things are. It may be cold but last year if they had started later there is no way the Fixtures would have been fulfilled. I don't like standing freezing my 'bits' off watching Speedway, however, I would rather do that than have no Speedway at all.

Leave it alone - at least we have the maximum number of weeks to get the Season completed.

So, nothing to do with Murdoch coughing up shed loads of cash (what was it? £90M for 5 years at the last renewal?) to use it as TV filler in Australia between the NRL games? Yeah, right.
