International Best Pairs Tournament Torun - June 8th

Recommended Posts

Poland

Sweden

Australia

Denmark

Czech Republic

Russia

Venue: Torun on the 8th of June

Riders: Tomas Gollob, Nicki Pedersen, Emil Sayfudinov, Andreas Jonsson and Chris Holder all confirmed

TV Channel: Eurosport to broadcast to 54 countries (No idea if it includes the UK)

So who do you guys fancy? If the Danish team manager picks Iversen then the Danes look strong but then he could pick Michael Jepsen Jensen ahead of Niels as he has done in the last 2 wild-cards, Australia look strong with Torun experiance Holder and Ward although they would look stronger with the king of the motoarena Ryan Sullivan; Emil Sayfudinov and Grigory Laguta form a powerful partnership and don't rule out the Swedes with AJ and possibly Freddy Lindgren or maybe even Tomas H Jonasson.

From what I have read through google translate, The BSPA didn't want a GB team as it clashes with the UK schedule.

Surely Jepsen Jensen would be a better pick than Iversen?

Niels seems to go missing on the big stage (1st Grand Prix)

with Michael also being a former Torun rider.

and the last meeting at Torun for Stal Gorzow

Michael Jepsen Jensen scored 0,3,3,3,2*,1

Niels Kristian Iversen scored 1,1,1,1.

In theory the last team would be GB, interesting that Sweden have named Lingren even though he should be at Eastbourne, (With Woffinden) If not anyone from Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, USA, Latvia, Hungary or France.

Of course it would be nice to see Wölbert + Smolinski there. But are you not forgetting the mighty Finns?Mäkinen and Aarnio perhaps?

I was just going on who were represented in SGP and the SWC. As for the Finn's, both Makinen (Ipswich) and Aarnio (Workington) are riding that night too!

Ok.I was being slightly tongue in cheek with my selection. But surely Finland would be a better choice than say Slovakia who only have one rider i can think of?Croatia have more. And of course Finland do have Joonas and Timo.Kylmäkorpi also being a track world champion might just add a bit to the publicity.Big "might" though

Should be an excellent meeting and great that the world pairs has been resurrected. just a shsme that its not an official world championship event and thst there is no team gb/ england.

perhaps 2014 could see this made official, the new Belle vue stadium would seem an appropriate venue. certainly it would represrnt the best chance gb would have for a world championship medal even if they would start as probably only sixth favourite.

Michael's sponsored by them.... :(

But shouldn't be a problem as Emil's in and he's sponsored by Red Bull although Red Bull and Monster Energy are not really rivals.

Yes.I'm sure when Timo signs his contract he will put in a good work for his mad croc pal

No dis-respect to Mad Croc but when you consider riders that Red Bull have signed are the likes of Mikkel Bech Jensen and Maciej Janowski... Why hasn't Michael got a red bull sponsorship deal?

He is the current World U21 champion, He could become the David Beckham of Speedway if he is marketed correctly, He's good looking, humble and has a lot of charisma.

Yes i can see that.I'd imagine it is only a matter of time before he brings out his own brand of after shave and is being sponsored by Jangler jeans or Top Shop.Trouble is i think Mikkel Michelsen is better looking and might take the market from under his feet.If only he could sing he would be the new Egon Müller

Call me fickle but is the main point of a pairs meeting not that teams compete as a 'pair'?

Is this merely the Ice Speedway WTC on shale, or a glimpse into the future of the conventional WTC?

yes the main pointvis that teams compete as a pair.

Rather than a glimpse forward, its move to rexestablish the world pairs from the past - the comp actually got dis establushed when they merged it with the old wtc in the 90s, i think this is a step towards having both again, no way bsi would get rid of the world cup (imho).

Very disappointing that the BSPA declines the offer to send a British pair into this meeting. Surely England / GB could be competitive even without Woffy. How about Harris and Nicholls?

The problem is that this date that they are using is booked as a British League date.

They have blatantly held no regard for the fixture list agreed by all the European leagues and the FIM.

Edit: This is what I heard from a fellow fan so don't hold me up on it  *
