MattK
Out of interest, what is going for planning permission? I thought planning permission had already been sought and found? Is the true reality, the funding of the project is still not found? Nope, planning permission has not yet been applied for. As for funding, the council have agreed to fund the project up to planning permission, including the production of a master plan and detailed design. Presumably, after planning permission has been granted, the project will have to go before the council again to have the next stage of the funding approved? The White Knight
How many individual bricks have been sold so far? I think that all you critics will all have egg on your faces when this is built. It's almost as if you are wanting the Project to fail. Well I for one very much hope it succeeds, and I honestly believe it will - granted things are going slowly - that is the way of things where Councils are involved.

Quite agree, but there will always be the knockers like gustix who seems to delight in anything anti speedway and BSPA. When I get like gustix TWK, you have my permission to shoot me.

I only asked a simple question in regard to brick sales to back the National Stadium fund in the first case. As for being anti-speedway I have been following the sport through good and bad times since my first meeting at New Cross in April 1946. I even dabbled briefly - and pretty badly - as a trainee at California (in England) and Eastbourne in the mid-1950s. My whole sporting life has been dedicated to following speedway. So put the gun away TWK and spare Tsunami! Edited November 28, 2013 by Guest

I am well aware of all that, but your recent flirtation with Stocks, and now your attitude of anti BSPA and Speedway suggests that you have no real love for the sport and have elected to sit in with the knockers. Perhaps you also have scores to make from the past. If so, it does you no favours, given what you did achieve in Speedway previously.

You can't blame people for being sceptical particularly those who brought bricks in 2011 to see 2014 a month away and still not planning permission achieved. The disappointing thing is we never hear anything from the promotion until someone buts a barbed comment on this forum suggesting it may not happen. I suppose, some of us are suffering from the 'Norwich returns syndrome'. You get carried along with the hype and ballyhoo, only for things to fall flat. Having said that, I was sceptical about Sittingbourne and was proved wrong, so let's see.

I KNOW it will happen and I hope that it is sooner rather than later. We just have to be patient and wait. Oh - and I WILL be buying a Brick - in Memory of Sunderland Speedway - it will keep the name alive. I truly hope you are right TWK. I've always believed in the new Stadium 100% - I was NEVER that certain of Norwich (Sadly).

I haven't had any direct contact with anyone in the sport since August 2006! On the other hand, I have many continuing dealings with speedway on an active basis since the latter months of 1952. Am I anti-BSPA and anti-speedway? My many speedway friends would disagree on that. Why should I be? I have a great love for speedway, so much so that I cannot believe what is/has been happening to it in recent years. Sadly, things do not seem to be improving but rather the reverse. I speak out on things that I see as wrong in the hope that reason will prevail and halt what I fear is an escalating downward trend. I see many things that happen and are not welcomed by many other people. These happenings which are commented on by others - not me alone - make me very sad indeed. We can all see that things are not right in Speedway, but much of the issues are outside of Speedway's control, such as, the state of the economy. I know the politicians would like us to believe otherwise, but we live in the real world. The promoters are the ones that put their 'necks on the line', financially. So obviously we need them if we want Speedway to continue. I think there is a possible belief on the forum, that if you talk something up, it will happen. The movers and shakers in Speedway probably don't read the stuff we post and probably don't give a cuss either! I have learnt over the years in Speedway, if it happens it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't. But every closed season is stressful for supporters, with the 'will they, won't they?'. I think that will always be the case, even in the 'so called' good times.

Bruiser McHuge
This will happen....the Salford stadium took forever to get through it's stages...the FC United stadium dragged on and on but work has now started...things take a long time and although generally I am a cynic I know this will eventually happen

John Leslie
AT least when Belle Vue race at the greyhound stadium in 2014 they will see their new home being built... What odds on switching to the new stadium for the play-offs? They seem to be really going for it with team building this year, so if they were to reach the play-offs, what better way to enure opening the new stadium to a capacity crowd than to open with a play-off semi? Of course the downside would be no home track advantage

New Science
Just imagine that! Based on the time it took to build the new Salford rugby ground it would take around six to eight months to build the National Speedway Stadium so, provided the first brick (purchased by our good friend Mr Ford) is laid before the end of February then it could happen. Not bothered about the pokc so home advantage will not be an issue for me but it would be the biggest ever crowd for a pokc meeting, having said that the opening night crowd will be bigger than any pokc meeting anyway, even if it was a Colts challenge. At least if the stadium is delayed it will give the promoters more opportunities to go on more fact finding trips to the foreign GP's
