There`s the young American (Manzares) currently looking for a Team place over here , Maybe its a chance Len would`nt want to take , BUT I`d give him a shot , I can`t understand how he has`nt got fixed up with a PL Team place , imo at his age he`s on par with Billy,Greg etc etc

Lucky

Ps -Also unsure what figure he`d come in on ???

Firstly, the track wasn't to blame for either of the crashes that led to the injuries, they were racing incidents.

The track wasn't up to much granted but as I understand it has been a problem with lots of tracks due to the unseasonable weather we have had. They have frozen and it has cut them up something chronic whilst they have thawed. They can't be watered heavily as once they have thawed it'll turn the track into a bog.

The racing we did see was very good, the injuries are a great shame and I hope the riders all make swift and full recoveries.

It may be too soon but Len needs to make two signings now, using all the points available to him and getting Jason Garrity into a reserve berth.

Shame for both riders, Lambert looked good when riding for Workington on Sat night 7 pts from 4 rides. Hope both are back soon.

Travelled up from Oxford, with the missus and kids, for this meeting today,as we were all desperate for some live action on a cold but dry day.Yes it took nearly four hours to get through, with some horrific crashes, put down to racers doing what they do best, racing and having a go.Probably some were a bit rusty and over eager, but for what it's worth we still enjoyed the day.I was particularly keen to see how the young Brits faired and having watched Tyson flat out around Oxford, was eager to see how he attacks the circuit. So to summarise on that,Jason Garrity looks the part,Simon Lambert was having a real go when he came a purler, but looked competitive and for the Ipswich fans I saw enough of Adam Ellis to see it's all there.Don't forget he was leading heat 2 when he fell.As for Tyson,he will keep on improving,a pure racer who loves a battle, great to watch.Think Rye and Ipswich can both feature at the right end of the table,so for me I enjoyed it and of course hope all three injured riders recover as quickly as possible. We'll be back!

Just a few points.......Jasons air vest didn't inflate, he didnt part company with his bike. A great pity because it appears that his injuries are the type the jacket would have helped not happen. Makinens jacket did go off but seems to have an arm injury.

Carrington was probably not watching the meeting at all because I feel that red light should have come on regardless of a rider trying to get up, because as soon as kick boards are displaced safety must prevail. This cost us big time.

How heat 14 was not declared a 1-5 I'll never know, again I dont think the ref was paying attention as he should have had lights on sooner, i dont think they did come on, this would suggest why the heat score was incorrect.

Lets hope all three injured riders will soon be on the mend. For Makinen, its exactly what he didnt want, as another post has intimated R/R would make us stonger, if Rohan got another ride.

On a final note, Adam Ellis is going to be very good indeed. Dont think he'd been to Dry House before. His riding and reason he fell is a typical grasstrack rider error, in my humble opinion needs to look at his gearing, he was way over geared, possibly two teeth at the start. The times I've seen him previously he has always been better when his engine is revving. Hopefully this can be achieved without his engine dropping its guts on the floor.

Over and out.!

Quote from an Ipswich fan who gave up because of the delays after Heat 8 (the first time in 40 years he has ever left a meeting which then went on be completed):

"... standing around for an hour and a half in absolute bitter cold with nothing happening. With a minimum hospital trip of 40 mins (plus time getting in/out ambulance) they should not be allowed to run without proper cover. That's it for me, no more RH."

I have seen this boy ride a few times at belle vue and saw him ride at the B V press and practise day.I m o he looks very fast and in total control of his bike and very ready for Prem league raceing.Whoever picks him up wont be dissapointed. I just hope that Belle vue get him signed on our books and loan him out before anyone beats us to it.

I do fear for the impact the delays had yesterday. I saw a lot ofnon regulars there yesterdayand most went after heat 8. I thought there used to be an arrangement whereby county would send a replacement or we shared with the go karts.

Maybe being Easter there was a especially high demand.

Its a shame because on what was a poor track there was some half decent racing and tons of incidents.

A big test against my tip for the league - Somerset this saturday. We wont cope well with r/r unless we make a signing and push JG down to reserve.

People moan and whinge everytime something like this happens. Yesterday was a very similar scenario to the first meeting of last season but at Ippos track:

  • Very cold weather
  • Track preperation questioned
  • Riders with not much track time, looking to impress
  • No second ambulance
  • Long Delays for injured riders and track repairs

Result

  • Badly Injured riders
  • Cold and miserable spectators
  • Keyboard Commandos setting the world to rights without leaving their living room seats

Its no good sitting on here and moaning about it and trying to score points off the opposition (they dont count for league places), go to the meetings keep the interest and turnover moving, speak to your promoter or who ever with your thoughts and maybe think of sensible ways of improving the sport we all love.

I think one of the issues yesterday was Bunyans condition went downhill after being taken off the track and had to be adminstered some drugs which meant the track paramedic had to stay with and go to hospital with him so even if another ambulance had been there same issues would have happened I am told.

spoken like a true speedway fan glad you enjoyed your day despite all the problems - used to enjoy going to Oxford myself over the years - hope you get your track back one day - as a point of interest don't know if you realise but Tyson is in fact Australian but he is one hell of a prospect

One of the reasons that I pick and choose my meetings at Rye House - especially when Uncle Len waters and grades the track between every heat when the weather is dry!

You obviously didn't attend last year we had very little problem with the track since Len layed the new shale and used the binding additive to minimise the dust.

With regards to the lack of ambulances at yesterdays meeting, even if two had been available then during the Bunyan/Makinen crash. I am sure that both would of been used to ferry both riders to hospital instead of telling Makinen to make his own way. As for availability of county ambulances that is beyond the control of even Len.

Unfortunate meeting, hope for the quick recovery of all the injured riders and move on......

Similar - except that there were two ambulances at Foxhall and sufficent qualified paramedics to enable racing to continue on a reasonable timescale. Yes there were delays, but they were caused by the necessary on-track treatment to riders and repairs to the track/fence - rather than very long waits for an ambulance to return.

These scenarios occur at other tracks and have even delayed at least one Sky fixture, so it seems sensible that British speedway should ensure more provision is made to have enough qualified people and suitable facilities available at every match to enable racing to continue in more practical timescales.

That is a sensible suggestion - both for rider safety and to help the customer (supporter). I does not need fans to spell this out to promoters.

Also, you imply that it is the responsibility of the fans to "go to the meetings keep the interest and turnover moving". It is actually the responsibility of the home promotion to provide news, information and entertainment - something that British speedway as a whole is particularly poor at doing. Once again it shouldn't need the fans to suggest ways to do this.

PS: I didn't go yesterday - the comment I posted was genuinely from a friend. Also, looking back at this thread, I haven't seen any keyboard commandos complaining - the comments about the match all appear to have come from those who attended, including RH fans who gave up and left.
