Rye House V Ipswich 1/4/13 2pm

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the meeting and a quick après liquid libration. Len arrived at the Pub and when asked how Jason was he said not good. I do not wish to spread any news without facts, but I think it may be sometime before we see Jason Bunyan back on a bike. Maybe we should not have Ipswich as our opening opponents to the season as they seem feted to end up with both teams losing riders to injuries. My best wishes to all riders Jason, Simon and Jari and hope for a speedy recovery to all injuries sustained.

Well I made a rare visit to Rye house and can't believe how long it took to run the meeting and I know delays with medical care can not be avoided but there did not seem to be any urgency in running the meeting or getting racing started again.

My only critisism would be that there should've been more communication with the ambulance taking Jason to hospital. The bikes should've started warmimg up as soon as the ambulance had left Harlow, not once it returned. That would've only saved 10 minutes or so though. I fail to see how all the other delays could've been avoided. Just one of those days!

okay put these words in the right order - mouth in foot. Yes the track was poor as was apparent when Len felt the need to apologise for its condition before the start. However as a Rye fan I would be far happier with the form in these two matches.

For Ipswich Barker is of course class and Lanham does what you want from a heat leader -Good solid scoring. Tungate and Heeps both looked bright although Heeps tailed off badly. Not sure why you put up with Risager. Ellis looks NL and Jari's injury (and I hope he makes a speedy recovery)makes you stronger.

For us Allen will get better as he gets dialled in and JB looked really sharp before his injury. For those actually there (rather than those commenting from their arm chairs)Nelson, Anders and Jason G looked really good attacking the track and made several passes. Simon L was clearly going for it too. Lykke really being the only one looking a little out of sorts.

If you saw the highlights of this meeting it was nt bad at all. The delays killed it.

What did people think of the referee. JB's exclusion looked a little harsh from the tapes stand. He went for a gap which closed. No ones fault just racing. All four back. Thought Lamberts exclusion looked poor. He was past Tungate with momentum and it looked like Tungate saw him out. It may have looked very different from a different angle though. Thought the heat 14 decision looked weird even though it favoured us. Looked like JG went for a gap that was nt really there.

Obviously wishing all the riders a full and speedy recovery. It really does remind you how dangerous this sport of ours is.

Indeed. Before speculating who is replacing who, spare a thought for those riders who could be out of action for a while.

Oh and Lanham was having his conversation with the ref right by us. I like Lanham and he was as I saw it being very fair as is his way. I think he was saying there was a ridge on the third and fourth bends and it could nt be sorted by grading but needed a blade. I think that view was probably shared by others.

Not sure why you put up with Risager.

I wasn't there granted but on the face of it that seems a bit harsh. Paid 7 from effectively 3 rides and leading for 3 laps before falling in his first ride doesn't seem a bad effort away from home really for a second string. The problem in these two meetings for Ipswich has been Makinen not beating an opponent and Ellis understandably feeling his way in to PL racing. Fairly solid from the rest. Speedy recovery to the 3 injured riders.

Agree with most of what you said Rocket.

The track wasn't great, and as you said Len had apologised for that, but all things considered, this wasn't a bad meeting, and I say that as a 100% neutral.

Like you, I thought both disqualifications were bad calls, in fact I wouldn't have even blamed Tungate in Heat 12. However, as the rules don't allow it to be classed as a racing incident without penalty, then somebody has to foot the blame. Quite how the referee managed to aportion the blame on any one rider more than the other, is hard to understand.

With regards to Adam Ellis, I'll agree that today he only looked NL class, but having seen him ride a few times now, I'm pretty sure he'll easily be PL sooner rather tham later. With the track being what it was to day, it wasn't a good time to judge him.

But anything and everything is totally irrelevant at this moment in time, our thoughts must be with the three stricken riders.

Always sad that there are injuries, and as others have said, hoping for a speedy recovery to all 3.

Can I ask, did Jason's jacket inflate in his crash?? I have been very impressed with his and Bombers when I have seen them in use, we use a point 4 in horse sports so obviously have been interested in the good effect they have previously had.

He started last season on a 3.93 and finished on a 4.05.

Well I was proved wrong but still, hes been around a long time, had a lot of clubs and none seem to stick with him. Must be a reason

Not sure if true or not but when he was dropped at Edinburgh the promotion said in the paper that he was very negative and didn't have any belief in his ability.

He looked a good prospect in his younger days, albeit not as good as his brother James although he has lost it hugely, but thats for a different thread.

The track at Rye is normally like a billiard table..However frost has been a big problem for Len,, which he explained to the public before the meeting The other factor for the crashes was in my opinion,,, a combination of riders feeling their way at the start of the season ,, .. and some really going for it ,,on a track that today made some moves highly risky..The successfull ones making for some great racing The unsuccessfull ones leading to inevitable crashes,,The problem of only one ambulance was plain to see today and will have done nothing to get any newcommers to return to speedway.. It is a problem i think promoters need to address with some urgency,,I dont profess to know the answer,, however..dispite the bitter cold there were some great races in between the delays.....Nelson,,Melgren Garrity all looked good for excitng racing this year at Rye,,,,Allen and Lykke should soon get dialled in... Best wishes for the recovery of Bunyan and Lambert both unlucky today when giving their all or the team.......

Here's to a speedy recovery to all three riders.

From my viewpoint the ref got all the decisisions correct apart from heat 14, when how a 5-1 wasn't awarded as Garrity went for a gap which he was never going to get through and brought down Heeps. Jason came up to Cam afterwards and apologised for it, and when I asked Chris Louis why it wasn't awarded he couldn't answer.

A meeting that Ipswich threw away with the points given away in the first few heats down to the patch of track between the third and fourth bends which all riders seemed to struggle with. Jason Bunyan having a heated discussion with the tractor man illustrated how bad it was.
