pandorum
Off topic, Wayne Rooney got a few boos when lifting the Premier League trophy, i got the parade on in the background, i think they were referring to just now and not on Sunday? I am a Liverpool fan so can't really say anything as we will be lucky to even see that trophy before Man lands on Mars. If then

If then Ooooops it crossed my mind there might be a City fan around so decided not to elaborate too much, but forgot about your lot. Hey not my fault you don't make the headlines or lists of honours any more Gee they come back from the adverts and the tractors still going round. This is gonna clash with the British FInal at this rate, last weeks meeting ended earlier. Heat 13 a key 5-1 for the visitors. I thought the Bjerre brothers would make a better fist of it than that. iris123
Think this is the latest line-up- Just to point out that Lokajev is the same rider that is also known as Loktaev or Loktajev
Ghostwalker
Just to point out that Lokajev is the same rider that is also known as Loktaev or Loktajev yeah Loktaev would be the English version and Loktajev the Swedish version of the name. Its called Transliteration. Edited May 13, 2013 by Ghostwalker

Danmed right. But i guess if some get confused with Mikkel Bech and Mikkel B.Jensen, they might not know that.So i thought it best to point it out as i would have thought Mikkel B was more well known in England than Loktaev lol Damned...i meant, damned! manchesterpaul
Think this is the latest line-up- Let's hope for a good meeting and at least we can rely on Cameron Woodward not to change his name.
pandorum
Just to point out that Lokajev is the same rider that is also known as Loktaev or Loktajev I presume he knows his own name as he spells it Loktaev on the back of his leathers in Poland
Ghostwalker
I presume he knows his own name as he spells it Loktaev on the back of his leathers in Poland Name(s) is spelled differently in different languages/alphabets due to the transliteration from other alphabets. Loktaev is how its the English spelling of the pronouncation of his name. Loktajev is the Swedish spelling of the pronouncation of his name. The same with Laguta, Grigory in English, Grigorij in Swedish. Edited May 14, 2013 by Ghostwalker

This is all true but Loktaev spells it that way on the back of his leathers not just his race jacket so I presume that's how he spells it. It's similar to Emil when there was a debate about how to say his name then SGP started that thing where riders say thier name and that ended that debate Nicki seems to say PeTerson rather than PeDersen so that adds to the confusion as I would go with the rider knowing his own name rather than someone trying to pronounce it from the perspective of a foreigner. :) That's why we Brits stick with names like Smith and Jones as there is less confusion except when someone calls themselves Bouquet spelt Bucket or Menzies pronounced Menghis then we are on the same level of confusion as the the rest  Edited May 14, 2013 by pandorum
iris123
I presume he knows his own name as he spells it Loktaev on the back of his leathers in Poland Not sure how we got on to how he himself spells it.So long as different countries decide to spell it differently,i thought it reasonable to point out.We can also get it spelt Loktajew in Germany as they normally replace "v" with "W".I would though say that once a rider does decide to spell it one way then maybe countries should all stick to a standard spelling

In Emil's case and others it's not a matter of how they say their name but how they spell it and how others spell it that gets people debating. Well, more a passing observation or question than a debate. I'll always go with the Anglicized versions of names where i know it, i am in England after all and most of the media does the same. So for instance Sayfutdinov it is. Regarding Nicki Pedersen, no names mentioned lol, but on UK tv there is a certain commentator, actually they both might be guilty at times, who during a meeting will say both PEEdersen and PEDersen. Whilst as you mention Nicki might say PETerson, i don't think i've ever heard UK media use that. Certainly the PEE and PED thing is a trifle irksome lol lol.

manchesterpaul
The NZ SGP commentators got stick for saying PeTerson but then that was how Nicki said it on the very same programme. Oh yeah i remember that now, i presumed they were wrong at the time solely because i had never heard anyone say it before. Clearly it is the way to pronounce his name seeing that's how he says it himself, but nobody is spelling it that way. To be or not to be with Karpov or Karpow, Andreij or Andreiv, Nikolaj or Nikolai. Mind you Ghostwalker has pointed out that some are Swedish spellings. Oh well! for the racecard seeing as it's in Denmark i'll go with the club's spellings on this occasion and give thought to it the next match. Personally, i would have gone with Loktaev too. Incidentally, although not perfect the speedwayresults.com database does a good job on the whole with riders names. By the way do you have a source for that news?, I've only just got home from yesterday evening and i've checked all my usual array of links and Googled too, coming up with nada. I will trust you lol, and go change the racecard right now too. OK done! I'm at home for the rest of the day and if there are any late changes, no matter how late i'll update it as necessary. Is that time including the 15 minute preview or does the racing start then? It doesn't matter actually i'll tune in then just to be on the safe side. manchesterpaul, can you make your race cards for league meetings as GP-meetings race cards? Gate 1 2 3 4, not first - home riders and then guest riders... It's too late for today Gray, but i'll look into it for next week. I'd have to do two racecards, the standard one and the format you refer to. I'm taking it that you mean like the ones i do for the World Cup? I'll be doing two versions for that this season as well.
