No Double Points On Final ? Better Or Worse?

Recommended Posts

By NOT giving double points for the final, you are increasing the likelihood of the winner of the final not being the top point scorer in the meeting.

Dosen't bother me too much, but several people have complained about this in the past.

It came as news to me and knackered my sheet a bit into the bargain. Another wee change I spotted was that a zero points return now ranks higher than a disqualification in rider ties.

Which I take to mean if rider A scored 3 2 1 1 R and Rider B scored 3 2 1 1 X, Rider A would rank higher. Last season they would have been deemed as equal and gone to head-to-head.

I think the change to 3-2-1-0 is for the better,

It's been like that for years.

Someone has counted the points from past few seasons to prove a point when he/she asked for this change.

Would the top3 plces had changed?

I just did some calculations and there is no change in the top 3. The only change would be that Krzystof Kasprzak would switch positions with Thomas H. Jonasson (18th and 19th position).

For what it's worth; see below for the riders who scored double points last year;

Chris Holder 11, Tomasz Gollob 9, Greg Hancock 8, Antonio Lindbäck 8, Nicki Pedersen 7, Jason Crump 5, Fredrik Lindgren 5, Martin Vakulic 3, Jaroslaw Hampel 3, Emil Sayfutdinov 2, Andreas Jonsson 2, Krzystof Kasprzak 2, Bartosz Zmarzlik 1.

but u already get a point reward in the semi.

Personally i think they should have stuck with the double points, but unlikely to make much difference over a season

The rider getting "reward" of 1 point in the semi doesn't get to the final!!! Surely there should be some reward albeit 1 point for actually reaching and finishing last in a Final. I'm in favour of 4,3,2,1

Being last should never be rewarded IMO. Imagine the last round in 2012 @ Torun & Holder only needed a point to win the title. It would be an absolute farce to watch a rider trundle round at the back. Regardless of a final or not, last places should always score zero.

Couldnt trundle around at the back and win .....he'd be accused of not racing!!!

And the rider making the final gets 2 or 3 from the semi so a gain of 1,2 or 3 over the riders not making the final. The reward is a chance to go for more points.

What is flawed? Flawed because the final now uses the same scoring system as the rest of the meeting? Instead ot just moaning about it, tell us 'why' you believe its flawed.

BWitcher, Did not see any replies that were OBSESSIVE about double points! Just a question and a few opinions.

It's obsessive because it's brought up every few months with the same incorrect idea put forward that riders don't get a 'reward' for reaching the final. Which is false.

"Reward for reaching the Final" - it's not a school sports day where "everyone is a winner".

The "reward" for reaching the Final is another ride & another opportunity to score points.

All sixteen - okay fifteen & a token gesture - have five rides in which to score points to add to their total, building to the end of season table.

Finish in the top 8 after 20 heats & you're rewarded with an extra ride in which you have an opportunity to score points that the bottom 8 are denied.

Get to the Final & there's another points scoring opportunity.

If the opportunity doesn't produce any more points, tough.

Flawed as per normal. But then again this is speedway so what do you expect ? Must be the FIMs fault.

Wow - Sulky doesn't approve. Big Deal

Do you sniff around old girlfriends in the same way that you mooch around moaning about something that supposedly no loger interests you?

Speedway does still interest me, not to the extent it once did. reason is rules and people like you. i have worked out these are why the sport is now where it is.
