No Double Points On Final ? Better Or Worse?

Recommended Posts

MY first impression was that as the 2012 title chase went to the pen-ultimate race why change it but I can see that, in theory, it should keep the competition even tighter. Time will tell, don't think it is a big deal really.

Generally a bigger points differential keeps things more competitive, as it allows one-off results to challenge consistency. That's why F1 changed their system a few seasons ago.

At the end of the day though, if one rider dominates then it doesn't matter what point system is used...

I am OK with no double points in the final feeling very much that qualifying for the semis and then the final gives riders an extra opportunity to garner more points.

There are parallels with the much maligned 'Joker' and no doubling makes, in my opinion, the points gained more 'honest'. As others have said, it should keep the series more competetive.

I don't mind either way - single or double points! However I do feel, as someone else has already posted, that in the final, all 4 riders should score something, maybe 4,3,2,1. or 6.4.2.1.

But it won't change again now for this season!

I like single points because it will keep the scores closer, however I was also a fan of the final points being 6, 4, 2, 1.

maybe they could consider making the points 4, 3, 2, 1 so there's still a bigger reward for winning (albeit only 1 point) but it will also reward a rider for getting to the final.

Another cock up by the bsi/img. The final should get extra points and all they needed to change was 1 point for last. When will they change a rule for the better ? Suppose follows on from a slick track makes good racing :D ala ole olsen

Not really true that theory though, is it?

It also means that is just a little more difficult for riders further back to make up a few extra points in one GP; therefore not aiding them put in a challenge.

One extra query.

What happened to the winter decision not to have the Semi-Final gate picks done at the "desk" but instead at the rider's pit bay.

Quietly shelved?

It came as news to me and knackered my sheet a bit into the bargain. Another wee change I spotted was that a zero points return now ranks higher than a disqualification in rider ties.

Which I take to mean if rider A scored 3 2 1 1 R and Rider B scored 3 2 1 1 X, Rider A would rank higher. Last season they would have been deemed as equal and gone to head-to-head.

I think the change to 3-2-1-0 is for the better,

I think there was also an element of helping the lower-ranked teams with their sponsors when they could see a few points on the board.
