British Semi Finals

Recommended Posts

as these meetings are only a month away, has anyone heard of possible lineups or at least how line ups will be arranged, having a glance at the averages and current fixture list it shouldnt be hard to arrange, and both meetings should be hard fought,i am going to treat myself to a trip up north taking in the edinburgh event, then pop into berwick (sat) newcastle (sun), to round of the weekend, havent been to these tracks for a few years. looks like ipswich are the only team to be racing on both dates, (barker/lanham affected). i would think the 32 riders would be the current (starting) top 32 in averages as the events are so early this year.

i would hope the powers are planning top 8 through, and 9th from each meeting being the final reserves, no space left at monmore for mishaps, problems, injuries, these to me are part and parcel, unfortunately but that is the nature of the beast so to speak.

and i hope the top boys go where they are allocated this year unlike the shennanigans we heard of last season.

Where as I disagree, I'd prefer to see top 7 form each with 2 wildcards. If there no bad luck I'd give the wildcards to the two 8th places but I'd prefer to see the possibility of wildcards if they are needed. Also, is it not possible Barker will be unaffected as the top 6 will be seeded meaning two lots of 5 (or 4 + wildcards) will qualify from the semis?

but edinburghs press release on 21/1 said any of nicholls/harris/tai etc could be coming to armadale, so i would of thought harkess would know the ins and outs, but that aside what is your thoughts on the cut off re selection, as i say imo it should be starting averages, with it being so close.

From a good source, the semi-finals are 'seeded' by ability -- they take the top half-dozen from the EL (I'd guess Harris, King, Nicholls, Kennett, Woffinden and Bridger) allocate them three and three, then the next six (top PL guys) and do the same, etc.

Only 'fixing' of the draw is when a rider's club have a HOME fixture the same night. So Redcar & Ipswich wouldn't lose riders to the Sheffield semi, and Somerset or Scunny will keep riders out of the Edinburgh meeting.

Both Swindon (Thursday) and Lakeside (Friday) have reserved dates, so possibly riders might be steered away from those dates, if fixtures are reallocated.

Otherwise, it'll be a straight 50/50 on ability, so both semis will have a fairly equal line-up.

But when will we actually know who's rding in which Semi?

Good question. This is a matter for BSPA office, but it has to be expected the draw(s) will be announced by next week at the latest, as the two tracks need time to publicise their events, and the riders to plan their journeys.

So Ipswich will go to Scunthorpe without their top 2 who will be at Edinburgh or have them missing from a home meeting if the 2 are at Sheffield.

If, as you say, Ipswich have two riders in the semi-finals, then it must be expected they would be seeded to the Edinburgh meeting, as their home match would get priority. The club get guests for both of them, per the rules.

How else would you want it arranged?

Perhaps not going to Scunny that night.

Seems poor planning.

So what do you suggest? Seeding Ipswich riders to the British Final? Running the semi-finals on a night to suit Ipswich and not some other track(s).?

Put Barker and Lanham to the Sheffield meeting to allow you to dignify Scunthorpe with your presence?

A National Championship eliminator takes precedence over a common league event. Get over it.

Surely it would have been possible to arrange the fixtures without a clash - with a non Thursday track visiting Scunny on the night of the Edinburgh semi with both teams Brits at the Sheff semi.

Nothing to 'get over' for me.....seems reasonable to ask why any side needs to be riding both nights.

Exactly - its not like its come about trying to fit around postponements etc - there was a blank list to work with.

Yes it affects my team this time but I would think the same whomever was affected.
