Dhr Testimonial Update - Now 19th May

Recommended Posts

We are warning supporters that there is a chance the meeting will be called off. We are concerned that no one should travel in vain.

Saturday was a day of pretty severe weather and cold, as it has been around most of the country, and although there was a great deal of work done on the scunthorpe circuit, the weather might win the day.

A final decision on the event will be made as close to 10.30as possible and potential travellers are asked to check the Internet sites at that time.

David,

A really nice post which shows concern for all the supporters who would be travelling today. Hope that you can get a suitable date to rearrange it when it is warmer and hopefully get the big crowd that you deserve.

We know that our track is one of the best for entertainment & this is what David would have tried to get, rideable but raceable. Unfortunately the weather has won(Stress now over David, Ha.).

Possible scenarios for the track could have been to remove wet shale yesterday, hoping for the warm weather(4'C) & easterly winds to dry the track & then top shale in the morning. This, though, could have let the frost get at it overnight.

The other could hav been to prepare the track yesterday, hope for no more rain/snow then remove the top wet stuff this morning then add fresh drier shale.

We have saved meetings before with far worse weather(rain untill well after a 7.30 start, a short delay & then prepare track).

Winter weather is still upon us so let us hope that you can restage this with another top quality field(i could not pick a winner, as all could easily pick up around 3 wins & a 2nd to top score. All the riders were very able to do this although Mads stood out, as a possible winner, with his early season form.

Disappointing for all concerned - but the right decision

Locally the local league cup football semi-finals were hit with postponements - a hard frost on top of a couple of inches of snow (areas of which had thawed somewhat) left conditions much worse than anticipated locally and in the neighbouring area

The line up would have performed in front of a few die hards no doubt. in atrocious racing weather - bitter cold surely would have decimated the support - a postponement to suit warmer weather would give David the testimonial he richly deserves in front of a packed EWR

The David Howe Testimonial takes place this Sunday 19th May at the Eddie Wright Raceway in Scunthorpe, having been postponed in March due to bad weather.

It has been a hectic week for the organisers given the all-too prevalent incidence of injuries in the sport at the moment. So it’s a very big thank you to Kozza Smith, Christian Henry, Lewis Blackbird and Simon Lambert who have come into the field at a late stage to replace riders who have been forced out through injury.

Scunthorpe fans will surely turn out in force to support a man who has been a credit to the sport, and who has committed his Speedway future to the Scorpions.
