Heedthebaw
how many other tracks are there in the UK that has to have their fence put up and taken down after a meeting? I wasn't even aware Lakeside did to be honest, but there certainly can't be many others. Every track within a greyhound track needs to take down it's fence after every meeting
Mr Blobby
Up here at Edinburgh for every meeting the boards need to be put up and taken down one by one. Edited March 18, 2013 by Mr Blobby
tyretrax
At Shawfield the fence was never taken down.
speedflash
A few thousand pound is not enough. £14k + Look at it this way Leicester has 6365 sq meters of track surface so just to sheet it in polyprop tarp at £2.20 a meter = £13992 + fixings Edited March 19, 2013 by speedflash
Vince
A few thousand? Jesus christ, just a slight exaggeration! Even if you're heavily inflated figure is correct, haven't many promotors been quoted previously as saying a rain off results in losing X amount of thousands? A curtain on a truck is exactly the sort of thing you would need for a permanent track cover that could be fixed behind the fence and then pulled over and attached to points inside the track. It is heavy duty with webbing reinforcement and has brackets and straps attached. For one to fit a double deck trailer which is approx 45' x 12' you will pay in excess of £1000, so to have them custom made to fit the track you would have to estimate at least £15000. Then you need to make something outside the fence strong enough to attach it to but that also retracts below the top of the fence and put fixings on the centre green so I would have thought that would double the cost of the sheet so my guess would be in the region of £30k for something long term. wandersome
Interesting to read all the input on covers and whether they would work or not. I don't doubt the validity of what anyone is saying but that does beg the question of what the BSPA were going on about at the AGM though with regards to us trialling covers. A bit embarrassing that nobody seems to have an idea what they were going on about.. according to fanmale, not even the people who are supposed to be carrying out the trial! Alan indicated that the BSPA hadn't decided on a scheme but he also said that Leicester was the wrong track to trial a system as the track drains well. As I have said before, if you have covers, the water still has to go somewhere and if the drainage can't cope, you will have a moat arpound the white line. When Berwick used covers last season, they still had an inconsistent track due to seepage througjh the gaps between the covers. A patchy track can be a dangerous track. By fence, I should have included, air fence, sheeting etc, for viewing at greyhounds
