Bryce
We played a mini tournament with 5 players. Each player took a team and played all of the others over 15 heats in a round robin style. My Hackney Legends team won 3 and lost 1 match. Somehow my friend who has never been to a speedway meeting in his life managed to win all 4 of his matches. (quote of the night from him..."This Ivan Mauger bloke scored loads for me. Was he any good in real life?) All of the matches were quite close, the biggest winning margin being just 16 points, with several last heat deciders. The game play was easy to pick up after watching the videos on the website. By the end of the evening most heats were running very smoothly with no confusion for the players. As predicted, the non speedway fans enjoyed it purely as a strategy card game, and I as an actual attending speedway fan totally loved it. I'm working on getting the group together to play regularly in a league style competition. One delightful quirk for old Hackney fans. The only one of my team to finish a match with a maximum was the legend that was Michael Warren. I know it's only a game but that did make me smile. I always loved his battling style and he was taken from us far too soon.
Bryce
Played the game again tonight with my son who attends Lakeside with me. He loves it too. We ended up with a last heat decider in which I thought I'd snatched a 5-1 on the last lap, only for him to also produce a 5-1 card and steal the victory back again. He leapt up and started dancing around me singing "Hey rock and roll." LOL In terms of hours of entertainment this game is easily going to be worth the money. Very well done to the designers for producing an easily playable game that really captures the atmosphere of speedway.
Papryk Ash
Thank you for these kind words – it is the greatest praise the designer can get. I hope it works out for you to arrange the league competition – we'd love to do it ourselves too, yet the game-related issues have managed to consume our lives completely (I can virtually hear them smack their lips). Still, if everything continues the way it is going at the moment, we will soon have a great news for all speedway fans worldwide. It was great to read the story about your son – when running a MCS competition in Bydgoszcz (4-team meeting formula), one participant was about 6 years old and to see him make all these tough choices in the bend was one hell of a watch (you can see him qualifying for the next stage in the link below, pic no. 13 – btw, he elimated his dad in the process ) http://prostozpudla.pl/2013/04/xx-noc-planszowek-galeria-zdjec-2.html (In the last picture you can see the finalists - the little guy in the middle almost won the entire competition!) Btw – may I ask how old is your son? I still would love to read your impressions after a four-team meeting – they tend to get pretty wild with everybody fighting for him\herself. Yet, the tactical aspect is a tad reduced, as you can rarely predict what bizzare an idea your opponents may come up with, particularly in the bend. For groups that don't enjoy this high level of unpredictability, there is always a possibility of playing two vs two match which also introduces quite an interesting cooperating factor. Anyway, I'm glad the game did not dissapoint, as it may always be the case with so many people and so many tastes. We will do our best to keep it up.
Bryce
Hi there. You're very welcome to the kind words, they're fully deserved. I have been a "gamer" for around 30 years, and this game is as good as any card based game I've ever played. I may be slightly biased in that I also love speedway as well as gaming, so this is the perfect combination for me. My son is 18, and he's keen to play regularly, so that proves it can appeal to younger adults too. Interestingly, he is NOT a gamer, yet loved MCS. Next time my gaming group meets up I'll try out the 4 player 4TT version. Let's face it, with the way things are going in reality, this may be the only way I'll ever see Britain win the world cup again!
dj350z
I played the game last weekend with my son & granddaughter who is 7. She was a bit young to play on her own to fully understand the rules but she really enjoyed it as she loves speedway. We didn't manage to finish the game as we ran out of time but I can see it is going to be very addictive. My son wants to know when we are playing next!!! As has been said previously, I can see it will appeal to the strategy game player who does not know speedway as well as the speedway supporter. I think the thing I was most impressed with is the level of strategy in the game making it very challenging. Well worth the money!

skthecat
Hmmm, I have a speedway card game, go it years and years ago, its called "SPEEDWAY CHALLENGE" It comes in a plastic box and has properly typed instructions... which I have read and...........? Has anyone ever seen this? It comes in a top trumpsish box and as I said its quite old as the bike pictures on the cards are old uprights, they are not photographs, they are quality drawings.. and the instructions are typed, not word processed.... seems very similar gameplay, this could be the original where mcs came from.. I bought a copy about 7/8 years ago from the online Sports Games Shop but unfortunately lost it and found it was discontinued. Prompted by your post I've just found out that they've republished it. They also still list the 2002 version of Speedway Promoter & Flying Shale for the PC, and Speedway Scene II, the dice & chart game which Flying Shale is based on. http://www.sportsgameshop.com/spd.html
IpswichDave
I got my copy back in April and have had many enjoyable 2 player matches. Over Christmas I was back at my parents and we decided to go for a 4 player game. Although the rules dictate an individual tournament we wanted to try and keep it as a team event. I can say that this does work and, with a few tweaks to the rules, can be just as enjoyable. -Team mates were allowed to confer on what number rider they were going to use before each heat -If a rider has 2 opposing riders immediately in front of him (i.e. 5-1) then he is able to charge even if the two riders ahead have been involved in a charge. This was brought in as we realised that the front 2 riders could charge each other and therefore be free from being charged by the opposition based on the existing rulebook. -If 2 riders on the same team were battling each other in the bends, the 1st card laid could not be the chequered flag card. This was brought in as races were being immediately finished by 2 riders on a 5-1 playing 1 card and not offering resistance therefore ending the race without the opposition having any chance to do anything. This is more up to personal opinion as you could easily ignore this and take the "well that's just how it goes" approach. -An idea was raised, but not used, that a player could lay cards for either himself or his teamate to increase the teamwork aspect. This was not tried as we felt it would be pretty messy; but others may like it...
Fourentee
Interesting ideas, Dave. You might want to float them on the boardgamegeek thread below, where the MCS team are happy to answer any queries. http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/960836/mcs-team-rules-clarification
