How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?

Recommended Posts

You gotta laugh don't you. I think Sidney forgets what he has posted from one day to the next. Bad luck trying to qualify for a world final, like Olsen in 76, PC in 78 etc is ok but if it is in a SGP round the whole thing is a joke.

You'll have to explain your point here..?! Coz I'm not sure where you're coming from on this one..

sidney had previously posted that the old qualification system was far more fair, despite examples like olsen and collins failing to qualify due to bad luck/one bad meeting, in years they would have been real contenders.

yet here he is citing mjjs elimination- due to a meeting he failed to score in - as evidence that having qualification is a joke?

There were a few problems with the old 13 heat format.

1 - Reserves only had 3 programmed rides (and they could be replaced in one of those back then)

2 - Reserves often got false averages as they had heat 2 then just two more heats, often against an opposing reserve. Therefore a home reserve could get 3 1 1 from his 3 rides which is a 6.67 average and all he has beaten is the visiting reserves.

3 - 15 heats are better than 13

On the plus side, the last two races were often a heat leader and a solid second string and not just one heat with 4 top riders in

Although the second half Rider of the Night heats were fun when I watched as a child, I preffered the junior meetings over six heats more after the meeting. Always remember in the 80's it was ften heard by the Wolves fans singing "Weve only come for the Juniors" after watching the main team get thrashed but the juniors would win most meetings.

It's so wide open this year, will be exciting. How much have the old boys got left. Will ward take the series by storm.. Can iversen show the form of last year... Will Lindback continue where he left of... And can anyone beat Bunyan...

The numbers are not there now thou are they quality wise..If say 5 pulled out of the series tomorrow out of the established stars ,where are the stars to come in straight away theyre not there not yet anyway. The worrying thing for me at the moment only 2 riders for me good anough to go in the series now they are Ward and Batchelor,

In yesterdayyear I could name at least 50 top class riders who would of been good anough to ride in the gp series.now you are scratching around after the 16 in it and thats relying on crump gollob ect not retiring.

It makes me laugh eaces1 because most people on here would of never said Iversen was borderline world class. Now people like you are jumping on the bandwagon and saying he is after 1 great season. He is the prime ex) of what i mean of world class ive always known that he was

:D;)

If Gollob,Hancock,Pedersen,go within 2 years that still is a big void! saying that i was WRONG about the talent coming through. How many many riders though would people believe are ready to go straight into the series?.Some believe Janowski and others are not world class what is the criteria, this is the problem for me because i hate the qualifying route.

You hate the qualifying route? You must have hated the World Final for years then!

It had me wondering. I am sure we have had pages of debate with Sidney banging the drum for qualifying (which has always been in existence) and now he hates qualifying, largely I suspect because Ward failed to qualify for this year

................. of course - Favouritism, Nationality and Selection is FAR better than Qualifying Rounds isn't it?  :angry:

After all that has been said on the subject over the last year or more, here we are.......Sid hates the qualifying system.Presumably because the riders he thinks should be in the GPs haven't made it.But then it seems he hates the wildcards, because they are hand picked.I guess he wants a system where everyone goes in the qualifiers, but only the riders Sid likes are allowed to get through

What we have is the fairest system we have ever had and what we have ended up with is probably one of the strongest line-ups to compete for the World title.......ever!!!!!! All we need now are tracks that allow riders to compete regardless of which gate they are on.Luck of the draw shouldn't come into it and i hope it doesn't play too much of a part in determining the outcome. The only thing that needs looking at are the tracks chosen and the preparation that is done on them

top eight are picked?

there i was thinking their qualification was based on performance over 12 meetings, more meetings than any rider going through the old qualifying route had to ride in.
