MattK
Interesting. Is the land still for sale? I wonder if this is an attempt to force the council's hand?

Great Central
Interesting. Is the land still for sale? I wonder if this is an attempt to force the council's hand? I think that the land was being offered by the Council on a peppercorn rent for a long duration(well in excess of 100 years). Planning approval seemed to be in place already. When I looked at the Councils prospectus it appeared that the Council were being very supportive but of course it needed somebody with the cash to make it happen which I didn't have right then!!!. racers and royals
Not totally un-expected news today with the Reading Post headline " Speedway is slipping away " The council had a meeting on Monday and they agreed to sell a large part of the site earmarked for a new stadium-which was never really a over big piece of land in the first place. Thank you Stadia UK (gaming international) for all you have done

25yearfan
Is anyone really surprised given (no!) stadiaUKs track record? Criminal really the amount of Bulls*it they have sprouted on the proposed new stadium over the last 5 years! Even more criminal is now 4 and half years after Smallmead was demolished not long after the end of the 2008 season, Reading Racers last season in the sport, the site just sits there doing nothing other than the old car park being used when Reading FC are playing at home nearby! All that stadium needed was a brand new main stand and it could of been one of the better speedway and greyhound stadiums in the Country!
Aces51
I sincerely hope this isn't the end of the road for a new stadium and feel for all Reading fans.
The H Man
Pretty much the final nail in the coffin for the sport in Reading! and like 25 year fan says, the old stadium site lays barren and will continue to do so for years to come!
