salty
Surely Poole must have known this was coming up and should have been ready to deal with it?Can't believe the Echo got wind of this before Ford.So as someone said there should have been an official press statement and Ford should has issed it and been the man talking.Seems some mistakes were made on that account.Ford has been through this before so should know the ropes and put a muzzle on Middlo.Even if it was a "we are as much in the dark and are waiting for further details or a call with darcy....." sort of thing.Badly handled by Middlo/Ford,but at least Matt is trying to pick up the pieces here and save the situation Good point, especially as the story was reported last Thursday in Australia. Grand Central
Â Â The Ford and Middleditch interviews were done by two different journalists. Â Good. Now we have someone with access to facts. The journo who interviewed Middleditch but botched up the quote should be named and shamed, at the least. comebackkings
Middleditch should be sacked as team GB manager, not for the recent comments, but because he really isn't very good at the job.
BWitcher
Oh, so thats ok is it? He can carry on as Manager of poole, but has to step down as Manager of Team GB. What a load of rubbish you and many others on here talk.... Â There are only two people speaking rubbish. Â Yourself and Neil Middleditch. Â The rest of the world, including the promoter of your club Matt Ford are talking sense.
marksimmo
I believe Middlo, Poole Promotion and the fans are all as much victims of Mr Wards behaviour in Oz. Â Darcy needs to find some humility for his actions past and present rather than an air of arrogance that he gives off. He has caused much embarrassment to Middlo and Poole by his actions, given he owes them a great debt for the never ending support they have provided since he came to Poole after a string of allegations. Â Â You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink. Middlo and Poole have provided every opportunity as mentors to Darcy. If he will not listen to advice that will launch him onwards to great things, then Middlo cannot be held responsible. Â Im not a friend of Middlo, not sure I have ever met him. I see over years the massive praise from riders for his ability to manage. Â Calls to remove him are premature and will only shoot Speedway in the foot - again. As someone who reads the Bournemouth Echo, you do not have to be Einstein to see a common thread in their journalism that covers every topic of news - sensationalism by selective reporting. I know of other things where they pick one sentence from a page of comments and thats all which they print. Â Middlo doesnt print the Echo. Maybe their selective reporting needs future consideration by Poole, but you cant promote speedway without the support of the media and a good working relationship can promote a false confidence. So a quick telephone chat (poss believed off record - never trust that one!!) unprepared and a couple of comments taken out of context and the story is sensational. It sells papers!!! Â I do not wish to see Middlo victimised for comments that are clearly snapshots of a wider conversation or why should he be the fall guy for the actions of an irresponsible young man over whom he has no control of, 24000 miles away and who seems to have learnt nothing from the wisdom handed down to him by the management, Middlo or even his pal Chris Holder who himself cannot afford to be tarnished in his crowning year by a drink & drug driver. Â Middlo's comments I feel if expanded on would reflect the state of our society where no one takes responsibility anymore and there are no boundaries for young people, no punishment and a liberal system that gives them an air of arrogance. We have to remember that Australians are not Brits, they are not even Europeans and despite the fact they speak a form of English we understand, they come with different cultural values. Â This thread is ignoring the real villain of the situation and being the otherside of the world he does not realise or possibly care about the mess he has embroiled people around him, like Middlo, the Poole Promotion, who have only seemed to looked out for him. Â If Middlo leaves Poole or the GB managers job - who will replace him? We do not have anyone with that level of respect from riders, knowedge of the Sport or proven success (given the riders available to him)

The rest of the world, including the promoter of your club Matt Ford are talking sense.  I must admit i had to stop for a minute as i couldn't believe starman actually posted that and that it appears he actually believes it.  Talk about being in a minority of one, although i am sure that some other Poole-ites will spring to his and Middlo`s defence because we all know how blinkered some Poole fans are.  Thankfully the sensible ones can see that Middlo's actions are totally indefensible and are totally out of place for our National team manager to make.  We wont win the WC for many a year now so there are several candidates that can do a similar job.  Middlo has to go as National manager, and clarify the comments ASAP. g13webb
I feel sorry for Neil Middleditch, put in a no-win situation. As manager of a team he was always going to try and justify the antics of one of his riders. that what team managers do. No doubt he was asked off the cuff, for comments about Darcy and whatever he said, he would be wrong regardless, whatever context it was put in.. We've had pages of people criticising him and that he should be hung from the nearest gallows. but Middleditch is a decent man and don't deserve this persecution. I remember nobody did more then Neil Middleditch, in trying to help Mike Lee when in trouble all them years back. So whatever brush he is tarred with. to me Neil is a decent chap and is welcome round our house any time........... That's more then can be said for that juvenile Darcy Ward...... I suggest posters wake up, put yourself in his position for a moment. Sure he said the wrong thing but hey, we have all said the wrongs things at times in our lives.... The White Knight
The way your speaking, You would think the Team GB manager's position is something that people care about. Get a grip of your life and stop sniping at successful people like Darcy Ward and Middlo.  I have met and like Middlo - but - as I say - IF he did say what he is quoted as saying then he should resign as TeamGB Manager. I am NOT sniping at him - but what he is alleged to have said is not acceptable from a person in his position.  Ward is just a puerile prat.  Middlo may well be a lovely guy but that hasn't got anything to do with this.  He is in a position of power (Manager of Poole/GB) With power comes responsibility. If asked to give a quote about an issue involving drugs and other illegal activity it's really best to think through what you're going to say. He's blundered very badly, and rather than coming out with a lame 'misquoted' line should say something a little more believable, such as he wasn't in full possession of the facts (I don't know if he was or wasn't).

Mark
I think those calling for Middlo's head are going over the top. The reason being is that he has been misquoted in the press so you, nor I, know what he really said. Â Until you know exactly what he said you can't judge him properly. Â If i had been wronged in the press as you claim Middleditch has been, then I would make a statement to that effect and demand an apology from said newspaper - none of this has happened though has it. Â As I mentioned earlier on this thread, credit to Matt Ford for his reasoned comments though..
Noodles
Dear oh dear what has Middlo done? I am not sure what is worse, his initial absurd comments or his lack of explanation since. If he was misquoted why has he not come out, defended himself and clarified exactly what he did say? Poole may stand by him but the bspa must surely distance themselves from this and relieve him of his national duties. bigcatdiary
On what basis? He failed to win the league in 2010 and 2012 with the best teams. He continues to give Scott Nicholls a joker (in his own ride) in the SWC every year despite everyone knowing it should be used on your best rider in another heat other than his own and that Scott Nicholls fails on the joker every year. He doesn't understand the TR rules and when asked about Pooles new signing Denis Andersen on Sky a few years ago he said he knew nothing about him. He's a terrible team manager and seeminly a it of a wally of a person too if he things all kids are pissed up drugged up police evaders. Â You missed something Shawn, Middlo isn't to good on the RR rules either ( cough Ty Proctor, cough Peterborough 2012) Â
Starman2006
Are you for real? Â I am, seriously, why should Neil be stripped of his Team GB, and or his poole managerial position?, he's already pointed out he's been mis-quoted, and really and truely, Darcy is not his responsabillity in his homeland. Darcy is old enough and ugly enough to be responsable for his own actions.. whether its at home in this or any other country. Sorry if you feel differently. As for him not knowing the rules, everybody can do things better sat behind a computer screen, can't they Shawn! try standing in the pits under a bit of presure, then see how you cope.
