Darcy Showing What A Pro He Is Again

The Moran brothers are considered by most to be legends of the sport, yet they spent 90% of their careers pissed. Back in them days they were called characters. Darcy is getting rubbish because he's Darcy this time IMO.

Moran brothers are legends of our sport.

They were characters and yes fantastic riders. Could you also clarify if they won as much as they should have done? Kelly had tremendous ability on a bike so much natural talent. Burst onto the scene in 1979 world final finishing 4th. He then undoubtedly enjoyed the limelight the odd beer, bit of trouble here and there and never finished higher than 4th again. I remember the Brighton bonanza a few years back when Kelly was the star. He was hungover half drunk couldnt even gate or stay on his bike and in the bar afterwards was legless. i remembred thinking then what a waste of a career and what could have been. RIP.

Shawn was also a great rider but not as gifted in my opinion as Kelly.

Ok lets let Darcy carry on the way he is and see if he wins what he should have done. could be a very good comparison to Kelly Moran.

Again true winners, true pros, Nielsen, Gundersen, Rickardsson, Loram just dont do these sort of things when the 'race face' is on.

And that's a result of poor parenting it is nothing to do with Ward, he isn't a "professional role model"

No it isn't. If a kid wants to look up to someone, they will. Period. If you read what I said, I have said I don't believe Ward should 'have to' act like a role model, its his life. But the reality is, some kids will look up to him. Again as I said.. not many though!

Some are asking "Why Darcy".. the reason is because he's been involved in high profile incidents, so he's made his bed so to speak.

I don't think he's even been slated that much (maybe by a few), just most folk saying he hasn't learnt his lesson yet.

Nobody takes me seriously? You should go and have a quiet word with yourself before you make such remarks - even Wolves fans ridicule you at any opportunity!!!

Someone said you wouldnt see an Olympian doing such things and i pointed out that one recently blasted his mrs to death. How is that pathetic?

I agree Ward does himself no favors at all but for 16-25 year olds espiecially, this behavior is far from un common. Getting thrown out of a pub is a day to day going on in any city or town in the uk. So is urinating in the street, as vile as it is you see it all the time.

The press are basically picking up on anything Ward does and its getting beyond a joke.

Like i said, all you lot want to go in walkabout on gp weekend and see how the so called professionals behave because i can assure you 100 percent if you think this latest ward story is bad then youll be stunned.

Fair point about Pistorius, but who's to know whether he was legless at the time.

He may have been.

I guess it depends what you call winners. Winners at sport? Winners at life? What matters most to these people? The cups and medals or the memories? Friendships and good times? Maybe to those you named the good times and memories are the World Titles but to Holder and Ward maybe it's getting drunk and enjoying their lives in another way.

Darcy could settle down, be home for 10pm every night (except those where travelling to his next meeting), he could spend every spare second setting up bikes, polishing bikes, washing bikes and working on becoming a better rider. He could win 15 World titles and then retire only to realise the last 20 years have been bloody boring and regret having not go out more with mates, drunk more and partied more. He's enjoying his youth while he still has it and while he's in the enviable position of having plenty of cash to do so.

And you seem to be forgetting that Holder is a winner based on your list, he has a World Title to his name so he's not doing a bad job is he? How bad if he can do that and get pissed often? Must really annoy the rest of the GP field, maybe they should start getting drunk more often?

It makes me laugh that it's being suggested Darcy has a drink problem, he has no more of a problem based on this incident than a large number of teenagers/young adults.

And for the record, I don't like Darcy Ward. I found it mildly amusing when he got a slap (or a wheel brace tot he back of the head - whatever) last year.

not really talking about Holder.

up to Ward he could be remembered for a multi world champion or piss it away. if he wants to enjoy the high life then i would rather someone dedicated to our sport be world champion

Thats exactly my point- why arent you talking about Holder? He was involved in this was he not?

Hes more of a role model than Ward if anything, he has won the world title. Hes current world champion so if kids are looking at role models then he surely is the most popular?

So it's ok for Chris Holder to get drunk, fight and take a slash in public but not for Ward? I think that proves the point that the outrage is just because it's Ward.

No it isn't.

Yes, it is.

Parents lletting it be that their child is saying "Darcy Ward is my role model I want to live my life like him" is a fault of a parent, it isn't a thing to do with Darcy Ward.

As others have said nothing wrong with a few lads going on the lash the problem is that when Ward tends to drink the results tend to be poor . The guy had 3 lucky let offs already all that could have bought a end to his speedway career . The kid has got the world at his feet but if he keeps going on the piss he's going to give it all away .

Yes and kids go around saying such things don't they. Dear me. Just like they tell their parents when they have their first cigarette (if they do) or other 'firsts'. Its not something you 'announce', its just natural. Kids want to be and do what their heroes do.

As I said earlier, I don't even see it being outrage.

You don't know Darcy Ward.. you say he hasn't a drink problem.

Matt Ford DOES know Darcy Ward, he says he HAS a problem.

This is the key here, many youngsters go out get drunk, have a good time as you quite rightly say. However 99.9% of them don't end up in the unsavory drink fuelled incidents Ward has been involved in. This one, I grant you, is fairly tame, but the point is he has put himself into the situation again. It could quite easily have turned into another major incident. You would think he would have learned a lesson, as most would, from his previous. Clearly not.

However, it is his life, he can choose to lead it as he sees fit as you quite rightly say SCB.

Which is an education issue, nothing to do with Darcy Ward..

why isnt their a separate thread for Batchelor and Holder

Recycle, recycle, recycle.

For the record, if I were one of the trio's Polish sponsors, I'd be pretty miffed by these recent events, if I were one of their British sponsors, I probably wouldn't have known it had happened unless I came on here.

Lots of riders of old were big drinkers, or could on occasion, put a few away, it was well known and legendary to most supporters, mainly because many were in the stadium bar joining in with them, but the key thing back then was that it wasn't in the media and it wasn't something that was brought to the attention of junior supporters. The difference these days, is that the media world has grown out of all proportion in comparison, so sportsman and celebs need to be a bit more careful, although maybe more so in Poland. If the incident had occured in a bar in a city such as Birmingham, there'd only be a slight chance of any of them being recognised anyway.
