British Under 21 Semi _plymouth Sat March 16th

Recommended Posts

BRITISH Youth bosses have announced the draw for the British Under-21 Semi-Final at Plymouth on Saturday March 16.

Seven places are up for grabs to join the nine seeded riders in the Dudley-staged Final on Tuesday April 23.

GB co-boss Neil Vatcher said: “It’s an exciting group of youngsters, including three riders – Jake Knight, Adam Ellis and Josh Bates – who will all be making their Premier League debuts this season.

“We have Dudley’s two 15-year-olds Max Clegg and double British Youth Champion Nathan Greaves, so along with Dan Greenwood I’m sure they’ll have some support from the magnificent Heathens supporters.

“Connor Coles should have support at Plymouth too, being the son of Exeter legend Michael, and the meeting also includes Plymouth asset Danny Stoneman, whilst I’m sure Liam Carr and Richard Andrews will both be out to impress National League promoters as they are still looking for a team place for the coming season.”

BRITISH UNDER-21 SEMI-FINAL LINE-UP: Oliver Greenwood (Coventry Storm), Jake Knight (Sheffield/King’s Lynn Young Stars), Dan Greenwood (Dudley), Darryl Ritchings (Isle of Wight), Josh Bates (Scunthorpe/Mildenhall), Brendan Johnson (Coventry Storm), Richard Franklin (Coventry Storm), Shane Hazelden (King’s Lynn Young Stars), Max Clegg (Dudley), Connor Coles (Unattached), Danny Stoneman (Isle of Wight), Liam Carr (Unattached), Richard Andrews (Unattached), Adam Ellis (Ipswich/Isle of Wight), Nathan Greaves (Dudley), Brandon Freemantle (Isle of Wight). Reserves: Tyler Govier (Buxton), Matt Williamson (Buxton).

Shame Robert Lambert is not 15 now, think he would do well in the British U21 think he came 2nd overall in the German U21 Championship

would be really good to see him ride here in England this year, does anyone know if hes got a NL Place?

The track passed the inspection and there should be racing tonight! The expected changes to the line-up are Tyler Govier, Matt Williamson and Martin Knuckey stepping up to replace Jake Knight, Connor Coles and Richard Franklin.

Is Knuckey under 21?

Riders have had plenty of time to practice, as most of them have ,I think it comes down to track conditions, youngsters need decent tracks, not meetings forced through on wet tracks

Better to talk sense as opposed to nonsense here.

Firstly at this time of the year and the weather conditions, where have they had time to practise?

Riders have to race on wet or dry tracks, rutted up ones or smooth ones, grippy or slick ones and the only way to do this is get on with it and dont whinge.

If we had to wait for a decent track as you mention, probably half the meetings in a year would never take place.

These youngsters learn by mistakes, who never made one?

Practice all you like but it does not get you race fit and with young riders enthusiasm with it being early season when most have not ridden competitively along with a wet track which is expected at this time of year your going to get falls.

This should have not taken place in my opinion.

The Devils team didnt practice in the afternoon,as it was too slimey.

Fair play to those who tried get the track raceable. They did try to remove some of the slime, but nowhere near enough.Putting fresh dry shale onto slime, made things even worse.

The track was rideable, just, but certainly not raceable. One or two lads tried to race, but ultimately paid the price. There were 3 or 4 ocassions when a rider fell/excluded when it wasnt their fault.Others getting tangled up forcing others to lay it down, yet the referee didnt seem to see this.

A case in question:

Adam Ellis was giving it everything.I can see why people rate him.Yet he paid the price with several exclusions.Maybe he should have settled for what he had.He failed to qualify.Yet was extremely exiting to watch

Matt Williamson only pottered around at the back,at least a full straight behind the others, yet by simply 'plodding' and staying up right,he goes through! Im NOT having a go at Matt.In his interview,he said this was his first ever meeting.Good luck to him.

Very impressed with Josh Bates and Max Clegg, who were both value for money.

Overall though,it was a very long night, with gawd knows how many reruns

Oh and where did the promotion get that 'Screeming Lord Such' of a so called presenter? Bloody awful.

No I wasnt at the Track, so i wont criticise, the referee decided the Track was rideable, so that has to be the yardstick used, but what we must remember these are young and for the most part inexperienced youngsters, several of whom dont have a Team place, obviously they will be trying to prove a point, well done to them for trying to put on a show.
