Speedway On Eurosport

Recommended Posts

It does show the difference when BSI aren't involved. Looking forward to the European Championship?

Real shame this - I nearly gave up when the Speedway didn't start on time.

On the plus side - I thought Scott Nichols and his co Commentator did OK. :t:

Overall I think they will improve with practice - I certainly hope so.

I take it that is sarcasm, if so you are spot on, they were p!ss poor. Nicholls delivery was akin to how Staechman used to be (very boring) and the other guy simply hadn't a clue

No - not sarcasm. I thought they did OK for a couple of fellows who are very new to commentating. They WILL get better - but it is like anything else - you have to learn to walk before you can run.

I'm all for giving them a chance.

What was awful about tonight was the lack of information given out from 6pm while watching GP bikes and then crashes. A few left the pub and went home. Also could they not have shown the first few races on a delay and then caught up with the live coverage.

I don’t normally disagree with you White Knight but it was boring & crap.

SKY once covered a WTC meeting that was delayed by rain for 3 or 4 hours and just showed speedway reruns and talked about speedway. Eurosport dumped a scheduled speedway presentation to cover some really dull tennis match.

When it started the coverage was very good but the commentary was amateurish at best.

Scotty is a good race anaylser but is no Kel Tatum.

The bloke who did the Nige bit was bloody awful. He also shouted at various points in his commentary but I doubt the anti Pearson dullards will make much capital out of that.

The bloke knew very little about what he was commentating on whereas Nige is a long time fan and knows a hell of a lot.

Scott v Kel? No contest Kel dances it.

Yes Scott did great at Cardiff and that niche is perfect for him but keep him out of the commentary box.

Jan Staechman made himself look an idiot when he asked the 2nd team manager on two occasions what gates they wanted.

They having the choice of the two left after the first two were picked or just packing up and going home.

Eurosport covering EL?

Big ask for them. Did they provide anything for this pairs event or was it the Poles?

A lot of outlay would be required.

I think once SKY dump speedway next year league racing here is finished on TV for the foreseeable future and considering how awful EL telivised meetings have been for the last couple of years that may well be a blessing in disguise for the sport here.

Personally I didn't really notice the commentators which is a welcome change to having my ears raped by screamy and shouty.

Some decent racing but a bit of an odd formula.

The pairs formula is a bit odd, although it usually encourages close racing.

I thought the coverage was fine. I wonder what people expect for free? Yes it was annoying that the first five heats were missed, but at the same time Eurosport have a policy, which is fair enough and they stuck to it.

There were a few gap and it wasn't as slick as Sky/the GPs, but I thought Scott Nicholls was decent enough, although he needs to iron out the ers and ums. The other guy, Steve Day, did OK given he is not a speedway person.

Frankly, I don't think speedway needs commentary in the traditional sense, as the action is easy enough to follow. I much prefer the "chatty" style of commentary that your get with other motorsport coverage.

All good points mate. Tatum hasn't ironed out his "um ers" after all these years though!

Reading these posts from us moaning fans perhaps the problem with our sport is the fans. It was on the Tv for christ sake and hopefully it will be in years to come but if I was eurosport reading all the bile I would just say ok your not happy we will cover another minority sport instead. Thanks eurosport its not perfect yet but what in life is.

Is that really any different to the fourth rider in GP semis and final having to walk over and pick up the one remaining colour card?

And I remember our own EL team managers saying, in the past, prior to heat 15 and after the winners of the toss had chosen, such as 'we'll have 2 & 4 then' or, on the odd occasion, repeating what the other manager had just picked and laughing. Why would that have been, unless asked the same question? Can't remember any looking stupid comments then.

Just part of the show.

So the speedway started late due to the live tennis which ran over. Eurosport International's policy is not to cut short live coverage which has over run and they did push back the start time of the speedway so TV viewers missed as little as possible.

Did Eurosport cut short the Cardiff coverage last weekend when it ran over? NO

Would Sky have shown this meeting? NO

Are you paying an extra £20+ a month specifically to watch GP/SWC racing? NO

FFS some people really need to get a grip. I would imagine that those who are slating Eurosport have not really watched it much before. It's not all singing, all dancing with bells on type coverage like Sky produce. But they do develop their coverage of sports they show and have done a fantastic job with the motor sports they show. They don't single out riders as god-like heros and then constantly rave on about these to the detriment of any other competitor taking part, but provide generally non-biased and informative coverage, and generally do a bloody good job of it.

Fully agree, well said.

Well i have. I watch the ski jumping on Eurosport and the coverage of that is also low budget stuff i.e crap. Sometimes it even cuts off about 10 minutes before the end. The prestigous Four Hills Tournament this winter, they only showed 3 hills.

The sound on the speedway coverage is terrible, the bikes just sound like there's a fly in the curtains, and it's obvious that the commentary is canned and the presenter is a numpty. It's frustrating.

Better to do without. i turned off last night after 20 minutes.

No it's not better to do without. Unless of course you don't really like speedway.

Myself, I like speedway.
