Crayford Juniors 1983

Recommended Posts

I'm currently compiling the stats page for the new crayford website www.crayfordkestrels.co.uk and have hit a block on some individual rider scores for Crayford's Southern Junior League campaign in 1983.

I need scorers for:

Reading (away) 25/4/83

Exeter (away) 30/5/83

Swindon (away) 25/6/83

I'm also looking to find out whether the final match away v Wimbledon was ever raced?

Thank you in advance

It would also be nice to try to work out exactly who won the league, as both Crayford and Oxford declared themselves champions. I think both teams beat each other at home, and don't seem to have dropped points elsewhere. I think it was an incomplete league table, so it might come down to who staged the most matches!!!

All the best

WTF! It's a matter of FACT that Crayford won the SJL in 1983!! Can't believe you're trying to introduce doubt into this, gulp, 30 years later!!!!!

I've managed to obtain all the stats for the three away matches now. The only issue I have is whether the away match at Wimbledon was raced and I suspect it wasn't.

Interesting point Rob, its the first I've heard of Oxford claiming the title - if its down to number of matches ridden then Crayford's was obviously either 11 or 12 depending on the Plough Lane fixture. I've got no idea of Oxford's overall performance or whether they managed to complete all their fixtures. They beat Crayford 19-3 at home and lost to us 17-5 at London Road I know there's a photo somewhere of Crayford's 83 Juniors with a trophy, which I suspect would be the SJL. Once I can locate it maybe all will be revealed!!

Anyone else know anything?

I have compiled as much info as I have been able to for the 1983 Southern Junior League. I will post what I have tomorrow and hopefully others can add more. Suffice to say it was poorly reported at the time and there are lots of gaps we need people with completed programmes to fill in.

I recall that Oxford were claimed as champions as well at some point.

This is what I have for the 1983 Southern Junior League. For the meetings where I have the date but not the result it is possible that these meetings were not actually staged on that date but were rearranged for another date. For some of these meetings where I have the result, I also have individual rider scores. crayford website please message me what you have for Crayford so I can add anything else I can.

Hi Mark, good website. Wish I had the ability to build a website - I would put all my stats online for all to see.

Thanks for the Crayford results. I had all those already as per my post above. Can you pm me the individual scores in each meeting so I can check mine against? Also for the opponents as well as the Crayford riders.

Thanks again.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I'm away for a week or so but will get individual scorers over to you on my return. In some cases Ive only got the Crayford scorers as some of my info has come from the Kestrel News of the time.

Thanks for your kind comments - got some very interesting pre-war history to add to the site soon.

All the best

Mark
