24th August 2013 Gp Challenge @ Poole

WHY is it that the track always gets the blame? Perhaps on this occasion at least the lack of passing was down to the inability of the Coventry riders to do so against a number of Poole riders (Ward, Janowski and Jonasson in particular) who were riding very well.

For once i agree, or maybe twice. the track was very good and fair, best i seen for a long time. Didnt pass as the talent in front was world class and too fast.

Unless a guy can gate he will have no chance at Poole. Hardly any passing again tonight vs Coventry. It used to be a great track but now passing seems hard.

What absolute b/s. The track was the best its been all season. No passing??? Or maybe you meant no passing by any Coventry riders - except Nicholls - despite their very best efforts!! ....and yes I was actually there, not watched it on TV!!

Thanks for the kind words Skidder. I've seen 3 meetings at Poole this season live and passing has been minimal. In fact the riders have struggled on a poor track. Wasn't there last night but TV just as good to make a view. I do not support any team, am not anti Poole, but just want to see good racing when paying my entrance fee.

I accept the track was at it's best last night, as said by Darcy Ward, but here are some questions for you Skid.

Haven't the riders (certainly Holder & ward) complained about the Poole track being bumpy especially into the first bend & also inconsistent week to week ? Haven't Poole recently changed their curator and now use G.Richter ? If yes to both then you'll have to admit the track is far from conducive for good racing.

In 15 heats how many genuine passing moves were there last night after the 2nd bend ? And I do accept Phil's point that passing Ward & Magic would have stretched the very best but they weren't in every heat and only take up one space on the grid bar in heat 13. Nothing stopping the other 3 riders changing places is there.

As for Phil saying 'why does the track always get the blame' I read with interest your comments about Terenzano where you put the blame for bad racing each and every year purely on the track. Cant have it both ways.

I really hope this GP meeting is fantastic for racing but there appears to be little dirt on the inside at Poole after a few heats. The only dirt is up by the fence so even the riders said 'its one line tonight'. I had the advantage of hearing the TV interviews whereas you didn't Skid.

In all seriousness, it has to be one of Cook or King. It would be embarasing if King made the GPs as he'd be shoved out of the way all the time, at least Cook if he fluked it (as thats all anyone is going to do) copuld claim he's inexperienced. So I'd probably give Cook the place.

After last night, Nicholls proved he's not good enough at Poole.

In fact, maybe a 1 armed Harris may be the best option :o

Sorry? What don't you understand about 'the track was the best its been all season'!? By definition that means the track has been below-par all season - something that I and most Poole fans and riders have been saying persistently since April!! The main problem has been the inconsistency from week to week. ie never the same from one meeting to the next which is partly why Poole's home record has been quite dire this season. In the Poole programme last night there is an interesting Q and A with Chris Holder who has come out and complained about the state of all EL tracks compared to what they race on abroad - particularly Poland. Most riders, using the current equipment, prefer a smooth, slick(er) surface with just a little dirt. If there is too much dirt and if its over watered, riders hit the heavy stuff and have to shut off, losing speed, power and often the race. Last night at Poole was nothing like that!!

Give Barker a chance. Invite Craig Cook to watch the meeting. Could be a right giggle.

Why not get them to have a face race off before the meeting to see who gets it ?

Bomber the obvious / usual selection but will he be fit enough ?

Scotty is a real trier but you dont get points for trying

Daniel King has to be the obvious choice after some decent scores and average but can see them giving it to Craig Cook who will givr

Last thing you want to do is shut off mate as the bike will grip more and straighten up

There is another thread claiming Cook has declined to ride for GB v Aus in the upcoming 'test matches'.

IF this is true ( I say if as there has been nothing official) then I cant see how he would get the wild card.

Perhaps he already knows he hadnt got it hence the pull out from the tests (pure speculation that could be 2+2=5)

In my view the wildcard place, if it's required to be a Brit, should be the one with the highest EL average for this season - if they decline then go to the next highest. This seems the fairest way but this is speedway we're talking about!
