1st bend Kestrel
Sorry, i don't know how to make this a hyperlink, hopefully someone with more nous than this technophobe will (unless of course it happens automatically), but visit www.crayfordkestrels.co.uk for a new Crayford website. It is still growing but at the moment includes news of a 30th Anniversary reunion, a great history of Speedway at Crayford and even a photo from 1935! Aha, now i've posted it i find, happily, that it becomes a hyperlink. Edited January 26, 2013 by 1st bend Kestrel
Bryn
Good stuff First bend! I'm not sure about the pic of the fans at the 1980 Fours (sheesh 33 years ago!) as they look a right motley crew.... well those down the front to the left of Steve Naylor sure do!!! SCB
Isn't it bad that a club that closed down before the internet existed has a website that looks better than a lot of modern clubs?
Irk Deflector
Awesome! Well done to all involved. I had a quick look at the history - was looking for mention/pictures of Barry Thomas. Barry taught me to ride a Speedway Bike at his Iwade Training School in the late 70's.

1st bend Kestrel
Hi again, There is a fantastic update to the history page of this site with a yeay by year breakdown of racing in the 30's and some newly unearthed (and obviously rare) press cuttings and photos. Where does he find this stuff? Cheers.
lakesidelive
Excellent stuff, my first ever Speedway meeting was at Crayford - I was 4 and cried because of the noise! My Dad used to go to Crayford & Hackney, I'll always be a Kestrel but of the East London variety - in fact, would love it if Hackney had a site like this. crayford website
Thanks for your comments. I've been spending many a happy day at the National Newspaper Archive in Colindale and the pre-war history is now as complete as I can currently get it. That said, I'm now in contact with the relatives of two riders who raced at Crayford in the 1930s and there maybe more photos to come (fingers crossed). crayford website
Just for your info - the website now has the 1931 team averages on the Statistics page and will shortly have a number of new photos from 1936 on-line, including a couple featuring the old Crayford Grandstand, which I didn't even know existed until about 2 days ago!! Rockets
I think I have a DVD somewhere of a meeting between Crayford and Rye House where there are fisticuffs between Steve Naylor and I think Kelvin Mullarkey. I'll try look it out.
