Nutz
Think you're always going to get a decent sized crowd that looks as though it is packed at Monmore due to only having spectator viewing on the home straight. You're never going to have to turn people away as not everyone will travel on a Monday night to the track. The old days of British Finals, Commonwealth finals etc were held on Sundays where Brandon was packed to the rafters. However, we can't do that nowadays as the Poles rule on Sundays. Unless you move these big meetings to a Saturday or Sunday, you're never going to fill a big stadium like Brandon therefore Monmore is adequate. May be showing a bit of bias, but I believe you can add Cookie now to that trailing pack of 3-4 riders behind the trio of Nicholls, Harris and Woffinden. In last years' final, he was unlucky to miss out on the semi thanks to a piece of good fortune for Stead and he beat Woffinden in the qualifying heats whilst also giving both Nicholls and Harris their hardest races... Gearhead
Such a shame about the Sunday afternoon meetings at Coventry,it's pretty much a given that it should pull in the best attendance, especially now its been elsewhere and on a different day, there was always a great atmosphere Is the event being televised? stevebrum
I've always enjoyed watching it from there to be honest, it doesn't rate that highly to some people but I love that track. I cannot fathom as to why some don't rate Monmore Green, given that the track is voted best track/prepared virtually every year. The only downside (for big meetings) is its lack of viewing. However the racing is usually the best anywhere in the country.
Bagpuss
I think there are one or two others ahead of it in terms of the best track in the UK but for me its certainly the best small track we have and without doubt a worthy British Final venue. Doesnt come near the best in the country for me. Scunny, Somerset, Pboro and Lynn are all better for a start.

Maybe, maybe not. The fact it gets a regular vote of best track, best prepared track says different. But it certainly seems to be the home of the British final these days, and as far as a race track goes i would agree it is a worthy venue. Would it be better at somewhere like Sheffield or Peterborough? Facility wise quite possibly.
Bagpuss
They are the four I would put it behind Pinny, Sheffield and Mildy can also be very good when prepared right. Never seen a meeting at Plymouth so can't comment on there but other than those I can't think of any others better than Monmore personally. Theres no doubt its a trick track... a normal track anyone can ride comes ahead of a trick track every single time.
Dave_minall
I would like to see it at Birmingham at least once though, I rate the track as it is a fair shape, and it's in a central location. Wolverhampton does tend to have some track specialists.
Bagpuss
Wolves shouldn't really be a trick track any more, the 'Karlsson corridor' has been common knowledge for years.
stevebrum
Wolves shouldn't really be a trick track any more, the 'Karlsson corridor' has been common knowledge for years. Trick track? It is only newcomers to the EL that will find it a trick track. The vast majority of EL riders (and i am sure some NL riders too) love riding it and for the majority isn't a trick track anymore given the regularity of appearances made due to riding the track more often than seasons gone by when a club appeared once a season. The trick track idea seems to still be peddled by some to try and dis-credit it as a bona fide good race track. Those who probably watch their meetings on a big track will travel to Monmore and feel it is a trick track, but i bet most riders wont agree with that anymore these days. Seasons gone by maybe a trick track, no longer tho. Wolverhampton does tend to have some track specialists. So do most tracks.
Animal
Whatever your views of Wolverhampton as a venue for the biggest domestic meeting of the year, why are the riders not given an opportunity to practice on the track (if they want to) prior to the meeting? Why would they need practice? Plus the only sensible answer to that question would be the same as any meeting - greyhounds run till 6.30 (bit before) and only then can the greyhound track be prepared to be covered before any racing can start. Arson fire
So surely the draw will see Cookie at Sheffield then and stead and Hall at Edinburgh??
Animal
Why would they need practice? What if a PL rider qualifies for the British Final, he has possibly never ridden the track before, whereas the EL riders (particularly if they ride for the hosting club) will be more familiar with it. Shouldn't everyone have an opportunity to get their set up right before the meeting begins? They have practice before the GP's and World Cup so that the riders are familiar with the track and can set up accordingly. Why not with the British Final, where everyone is suppossed to have an equal chance?

Why not with the British Final, where everyone is suppossed to have an equal chance? You make a fair point actually. For it to be fair then the track needs to be one that is prepared well and can have access a few hours before to allow practise to back place. Are there really many tracks that could provide access at say 4 or 5 PM on a week night (assuming that is at SKY`s request?)??
