THE DEAN MACHINE
None of the Tarmaced Circuits are in towns though are they, and I beliave Cadwell park has noise issues because of 1 house that was there after the track was set up. I understand where you're coming from Dean the noise and smell are powerful attractions to the sport, but if speedway does not adapt then the only funeral will be British speedways. Speedways problems are not what happens inside the safety fence. It dosent need to change , its the people who run it who need to change Not sure why it quoted that twice but if you ever need proof that battery power dosent work there it is . Bloody phones The racing is no where near as good as in the upright days, the machinery now decides on who wins races, not always the rider, so some chenge within the safety fence does need to happen. I agree that the running of Speedway outside the fence does need to change though.
The Know
Electric speedway would be like being at a funeral , probly my funeral cause it will happen over my dead body. Its funny how noise isnt an issue in f1. Twice ad loud ad speedway and a track can apear in your town. Instead of bending over and getting shafted ,stand up for speedway and noisey sports yet another reason speedway is doomed, time goes on and things change ! I love the sound of F1, motocross, speedway and the like but we have to go forward. all the other sports are looking into this and other things. Its called the FUTURE I have seen motocross bikes riden by pros and it was blood good, not much noise but good.Electric speedway is better than no speedway, look at the positives of where you can have it due to no noise. Its about racing and close racing and if its good on lecky bikes then why not

The Know
because its not speedway. Speedway is 4 combustion engine noisey bikes being ridden 4laps round a dirt track by 4 brainless idiots, anything else is just not speedway Take it your back from the dead then Yes you are right but that is not what the future holds for the sport to survive long term. Everything has to be green now, renewable energy, energy recovery. Just think if the team or riders could gain sponsorship from these companies. They are bigger than anything ever in this sport now and in the future. everybody uses electric so it would be a good marketing tool. Southern electric pirates verse the newlec eagles, watch the sparks fly Also the main manufacturers like KTM, HONDA, YAMAHA, and so on are all making electric motocross bikes. KTMs is very good. You would not then have just one, GM, but 10 or 20 companies involved. Look long term and think what this all could bring in sport profile, money and all that goes with it. One small door shuts for internal combust motor but look at the doors that could open Edited January 22, 2013 by The Know
iris123
This is speedway......the sponsors are likely to be along the lines of Joe Higgingbottom + son, electrician..... anyway this is Egon involved.....he told me two years back that he wanted Martin to use the bike in a meeting, but it was too powerful!!!! Two years on and he still has bikes that go like mopeds
Ray Stadia
I think the introduction of electric speedway bikes would be positive and negative.
Starman2006
i know its not but im sick to death of being told i cant enjoy noise. I put up with other peoples lives . Religion. Football and other dull things folk like. I think one of the greatest noises on the planet is being in the pits when bikes are being warmed up And smell that has never dissapeared or been any different. Can see it now, Boffin, ang on a minute, i'l just un-plug the bike, and start it up... Whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Promoter, Jeezs, thats quiet, Boffin, its Electric. Only one small drawback, when you finish a race you have to plug it in to a socket to charge it up for the next race, just hope nobody breaks the tapes and goes off 15 metres or comes off!! New Science
No lets watch speedway dissapear while the money slowly runs out. Any idea to make speedway affordable should be looked at, even if we have to loose the noise and Castrol R smell. We have already had unnecessary new silencers forced on us which have done nothing for the sport(except kill the atmosphere)Yet another excuse to sanitise our sport in the name of health and safety / green issues. The do gooders wont be happy until you can hear a pin drop.Leave our sport alone

Tsunami
The link below may not convince many, maybe me included, but it is impressive, nonetheless. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Bni45TKUrA Doesn't open for me. But if it is the race between Muller and Smolinski, I would agree that it is impressive, including the wheelies.

martin_t
You could always get those things you fasten to the forks that go in between the spokes - that sounds great! I had one of those on my push-bike when I was a kid! Not sure how you deal with the smell though!! But it wouldn't be "pottering around" it would be the same speed. It would just not make noise or smell. Everyone has a iPod these days, just play a sound of bikes during races! Everyone is happy. yep, have the sound on an iPod and sell the smell in an aerosol can

Tsunami
It is a moto X bike. Did you cut and paste the link? This should work now: Still impressive. No, the link I was referring to was a proper speedway race between Muller and Smolinski on a normal track and Smolinski actually gets it up for wheelies after the race. Someone posted it on here about 1 month ago. Shame about the smell and the noise tho.
Deano
Shame about the smell and the noise tho. For travel expenses and admission to a meeting I could generate "the smell". It won't be Castrol R, but it would definately get people talking.
wandersome
the link is to kids on an Oset trials day. I see a speedway equivalent to this as being the future of electric bikes. I would have thought you would be able to set up mini tracks pretty much anywhere for kids to learn the basics of speedway at minimal cost and make it much more accessible for youngsters to try it out and get practice time. The interesting thing for me, was the moto x bike still behaved and looked like a moto x bike, but without the engine noise. As I recall, the 'Muller' bikes were not very glamorous, as they were all enclosed. But early days and who knows? Long Eye
I just had an idea, why dont we put an elastic band round the back wheel hub then the mechanics can push the riders backwards for 4laps till the elastic goes tight then get them to start and then let them go . Its just as much as an insult as the elecric idea is Behave! That sounds like hard work.
