2013 British Youth Championship

The BSPA website has now published the dates and venues for this years Championship, with just one to be confirmed.

 

The organisers at Iwade (Sittingbourne) did a fantastic job when they hosted the final round last September, and although speedway will be staged a few miles up the road this summer at Central Park, I'd love to see the round staged at the Old Gun Site again.

 

Presumably the venue will be staging some Dragons Speedway Club meetings again, plus of course their invaluable training days, and nowhere deserves to host a round of this ever growing prestigious tournament more.

 

For those who haven't seen the official announcement, it reads as thus: -

Meetings are confirmed for Leicester (May 12), Rye House (May 18), Eastbourne (July 14), Scunthorpe (July 28) and Northside (August 11) with at least one other venue to be announced, and a training day has been fixed for Buxton on April 2.

 

The Young Lions management team of Phil Morris and Neil Vatcher would be delighted to hear from any British boys or girls who would like to complete in at least one of the events of the Youth Championship, who were under the age of 16 on the 1st January 2013, and who ride either 500, 250 or 125cc speedway bikes. They can be contacted at: -email- Morris and Vatcher have also thanked the BSPA and the above tracks for their help in supporting British Youth Speedway, and the series sponsors for their continued support: Friends of Speedway, Wessex Marine, Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club and Duck Smart Cleaning Products.

jsut a quick note to anybody that did not get the email yeaterday. 250cc riders in the Youth Championship this year have got to use the new type silencer

Hi my son is entering this years British championships

 

I was just wondering about the standard of riders in the 500cc class

 

At the moment he rides in the 125cc and he can hold his own

Even on a bike with a honda engine

 

He's 14 and been rideing a since he was 13

Trust your own judgment but also I would strongly recommend that he is assessed on the 500 by a licences trainer at your local club. If he's not quite there it won't do him much good to get beat up by others. Saying that, the 500 class has a gulf between the top 2 or 3 and the rest with a very mixed ability ratio.

Anyone know what start time is proposed for the May 12th. Rd One meeting at Beaumont Park?

Hoping it's early afternoon so can fit this in and Kent's opening NT fixture up at Stoke!

We probably just going to do the 125cc class for the 1st Round.so we can have a look at the 500cc lads

 

I my self don't want him getting beat up by them

 

The wet weather had not helped as he's only been on his 500 once this year

Just a few notes for everyone who has been asking questions.

 

1 Each rider will only be allowed to race in one class and cannot race in 2 like previous years.

This is due to numbers of riders and potential insurance issues due to riders taking 10 races over the event.

 

2 500cc and 250cc machines will have to be full spec 100% to the SCB rule book with no exceptions.

All bikes must have the new type silencer and rear mudguard.

 

3 New tyres are not allowed

 

4 125cc support events, as the title suggests this is a support and not an official championship series.

we will allow any speedway machines under 125cc in the support events as we are aware a few people have different bikes and want to let as many kids into the sport.

But please be aware that in the one off 125cc British Championship, bikes will need to be 125cc or under and 4 stroke only and will have to conform to SCB standards. (please do not turn up with a bike that does not fit this criteria)

 

5 We have had great co operation from the riders and parents in 2012 please can we try and get the same in 2013, we (Phil & Neil) are here to help anyone at any time and we enjoy spending our time helping out, it makes things much easier for us if we get a smooth run meeting with all your co operation.

 

6 Good luck and spread the word if you know of any other riders who are keen to join the series.

Item 4. In the 125 British Championship, you say the bike has to conform to SCB standards. Does that mean dirt deflector, oil catcher, exhaust system, minimum weight, etc. Seems a bit harsh, as I don't think a lot of say junior 125cc bikes would be capable of meeting the full SCB requirements.

Hi, i do not know that,this was an email the management team sent out, you would have to contact Phil or Neil to get that info, thanks

Ah okay - many thanks for this.

Has knocked on the head any plan to combine going to Stoke (Kings' opening away fixture on the 12th) with a trip to Beaumont Park but at least now have the answer!!!

Fantastic array of young U16 UK riders at Tuesday's British Youth Championship training day.(about 40). Plenty of track time, from 10am to 3.00pm. although the track got very dusty about lunchtime. Joe Screen in attendance to give instruction with Phil Morris, and Joe went on track about 3 times for his own spin.

Weather good, but couldn't believe the amount of snow in the fields in the surrounding areas.

Very enjoyable day with some cracking talent that most folks don't even know about.

Top marks to both Phil and Neil Vatcher for their organisation of the event, which is the precursor to the rounds of the full championships.
