The White Knight
He deserves it! Â He certainly does. He certainly has put in plenty of his own money. That sort of dedication deserves success.
Humphrey Appleby
It seems people here would whine on if they won the lottery. Instead of saluting a fellow fan for trying he gets criticised. Strange lot we speedway fans  I don't think anyone has ever criticised Bill Buckley, but fan promoters doing things out of charity is not a sustainable way to run a sport. Fine if it's kickstarting a longer-term enterprise, but apart from his personal satisfaction, what will the sport have gained from its 3 year tenure in Auckland? You can't really build any fan or rider base over such a short timescale, and at the cost of thousands if not millions that might be better targeted on developing the sport nationally. waiheke1
Bunyan as Wild card AGAIN?? Do we really have to have a PL rider that will be well out of his depth yet again? Â As someone who will be attending and purchasing three tickets for the third consecutive year (not just whingeing from 12000km away )I have no issue with the selection. The last two years, on each occasion I was hoping for someone like batch to get the spot. However bunyan hasnt been disgraced - far more competitive than say starostin in 82 - and has done a lot of mediawork in the build up. Id also imagine that more kiwis could tell you who jason bunyan is than say tai woffinden. With it looking increasingly like this will be the last nz gp, and indeed that yhere will be no motorsport at the Springs after 2017, I can totally understand the decision to go with sn adopted kiwi and multi nz champ winner.

The fact you have to go back to 1982 to get someone less competitive than Bunyan says it all!  That said, he is the logical choice.
waiheke1
Tbh you only need to go back to 2010 and Carpanese at the italian gp.

waiheke1
Hasnt been trailing miles behind (perhaps in the odd race), made the gate in a few races, and has beaten kenny bjerre snd martin vaculik, and had a decent battle with harris in 2012 if I remember correctly. Clearly he is not a gp standard rider, but I think he has performed pretty well. Got the biggest cheer of the night in 2012 when he picked up his point. Would any top riders even be willing to make the trek out here to tske the wild card if offerred?

thehammer
If only domestic flight prices and hotels hadn't been increased for this weekend due to the concert in Auckland as unfortunately with a new family can't afford around $1k for the weekend to make the trek up from South Island.... added to the fact can't take more time off work to do so! Guest
Bunyan being picked is a not funny joke. Â Track reserves should at least be able to be competitive in the 5 heat races. This is the World Championship not a benefit meeting for long service. But he is the best rider in New Zealand. Jason Bunyan has just equalled the nine titles record that he now shares with Larry Ross.
alanpriddy
Hi there, Anybody from around Tauranga going to the Speedway GP in Auckland that wants to share a ride?
