The White Knight
Bigger sports to bigger audiences thats why I know. It can be done though and THAT is what I was getting at.
waiheke1
Well, if you can convince the nimbys to allow it at that hour, underwrite bill buckley for any losses incurred running a meeting at that hour, and run the european gps at an nz friendly viewing hour - you might just have a deal. Otherwise a 6am rise with a can of htfu should do the trick for you northern hemisphere light weights.
mike1944
I shall just record it and play it back at the time I want, avoiding ang media sources that will give me the result before I view it, which will not take much doing. The result might be on Sky News but absolutely no chance of seeing it on BBC News as they do not appear to know speedway even exist.
waiheke1
A couple of articles from the nz herald in the lead up to tis. obviously the news that Gollob has withdran from the series hasn't made it this far yet! http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11219765 and Briggo's view: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11228770

The interview with Briggo is really insightful and increases my already huge regard for him. We shall not see his like again. Sad that he thinks this will be the last GP at Western Springs. Hope springs eternal. Regards. Alan.
waiheke1
Fingers crossed its not the last one, but I will be making the most of Saturday in case it is. Hopefully an evening meeting will encourage a few more locals to come down to watch it, and the weather remsins as brillisnt as it has been the last couple of weeks. Tbh, its not just the gp but all speedway at risk at the springs, with a distinct possibility that 2017 might be the last year for motorsport, which would be a travesty. Last time I saw a reigning british world champion live would have been lee in 81, so loking fwd to seeing tai in action. Darcy was superb here last time so hopefully the track is conducive to good racing, and that gate 1 doesnt give the huge advantage it did ladt year. Thats 1,5 on average between 1930-2013.

pandorum
I hope Bunyan wins a race just to give the NZ crowd something to cheer about. It's a pity that it is another failed antipodean experiment but Buckley deserves huge credit for daring to dream. With the Stones gig cancelled a few more might make the trip along. I guess until this jaunt can include a few more countries such as OZ and the US and maybe even Japan or China (yes I know they don't have speedway there) in a pre season series of meetings this will always be a bit of a disaster. Good luck to all riders Saturday and as there is no Emil my full support will go to the Brits so go Tai and hopefully Bomber will get a decent score. racers and royals
Draw 1 Bunyan 2 Ward 3 Bjerre 4 Harris 5 Batchelor 6 Zagar 7 Holder 8 Pedersen 9 Hancock 10 NKI 11 Smolinski 12 Lindgren 13 Kasprzak 14 Hampel 15 Jonsson 16 Woffinden
waiheke1
Bad draw for Tai, Harris, Zagar and Smolinski, with to heats each off the outside gate. For Bunyan, his best chance of points is going to come up first time out, off the inside gate ith Bjerre (who he beat in 2012) off 3 and Harris off 4 - potentially he could pick up a couple of points there which ould be a fabtastic start to the meeting for the crowd - can't see him getting near Darcy though. Hanacok, Batch, Bunyan and KK all have two heats off the favoured inside goat - Hancock looking great valeu at 15-1. small feature on tv3 news tonight http://www.3news.co.nz/Speedway-champs-could-be-last-at-Western-Springs/tabid/415/articleID/338791/Default.aspx and a couple of cips from tvnz also http://tvnz.co.nz/othersports-news/speedway-fans-need-vote-their-feet-video-5884903 http://tvnz.co.nz/seven-sharp/tai-woffinden-world-speedway-champion-video-5886259

I think it is only POSSIBLY the last Speedway GP at Western Springs? Very sad prospect indeed. But I think all the regular car formulas are to continue for the immediate future? Regarding Harris - he'll probably be last out of the gate regardless of the gate stats. And if I had to have a duff gate against anyone make it Bunyan who frankly, any GP rider should be able to pass. Gate 1 could give you 30 metres and Bunyan should still finish last! Undercover Elephant
Leigh Adam's comments in the programme echo a round in Australia if NZ can stage one, and he's right. On pace form from practice today, Ward, Hampel, Nicki, Greg, Niels and Tai were ready for tapes tomorrow. Wide bends with banking here and a great stadium in my opinion. Yes I believe from talk today that this might well be the last. Edited April 4, 2014 by Undercover Elephant

But I think all the regular car formulas are to continue for the immediate future? I think PROBABLY rather than possibly. Cars will continue until 2017. I thought it was sheep in New Zealand... we're not choosy, take what we can get... Regarding Harris - he'll probably be last out of the gate regardless of the gate stats. Gate 1 could give you 30 metres and Bunyan should still finish last! actually recall Bunyan and Harris having a good battle in 2012. Yeah, it is probably best for Harris to get one of his gate 4s against Bunyan, but also for Bunyan getting Harris or Smoli off gate 4 when he is on gate 1 is his ideal scenario. Allright predictions for tomorrow: I'll go 1 Ward 2 Hampel 3 Hancock Others to make the semis Nicki, Tai, KK, NKI and either Batch or Holder, I'll plump for Batch. Bunyan to record a top score of 2 points. Really hope the track produces racing similar to 2012 and not 2013.
