I shall be visiting, from UK , for the Auckland cricket test match.

I also intent visiting the Speedway GP., Is there anybody who can advise me how far The Stadium is from Eden Park? Is it in walking distance & if so how long would it take?

Many thanks.

It is around a couple of miles between the two stadiums so not that bad if you wanted to walk.

Last year we walked to the stadium from our hotel in the centre of Auckland as it was a lovely day. This is a much further distance then the trip between the two stadiums. Took a bit over an hour and was nice to see different views of the city and see the suburbs as the buildings are different to home.

The lake just behind the speedway stadium at Western Springs is very pretty and the Zoo is just behind that which was also interesting

Haere Mae (hello) If your seat is on the terraces, endeavour to take a cushion, the concrete is mighty taxing on the Gluteus Maximus.

another top venue just round the corner with a thriving speedway scene :P better get off this topic as start being negitive again :D

allright, only about 6 weeks to go. Anyone coming over for this? Any word on when the wildcard will be confirmed?

Rumours seem to be that Troy Batchelor may be in line rather than a kiwi representative (Bunyan and Wells are the other names i've heard mentioned)

Much as I think Bunyan was the right choice last year (and performed very

creditably), I'd be much keener to see Batch this year.

And does anyone who knows about such matters know if the incredible summer (hot and dry) we are having will potentially impact upon track preparations if it continues? I know its a totally different surface, but i've heard the car racing at the Springs has been pretty dull this season with very little passing due to the track.

WILD card should be announced next week. The three names you mentioned are all in the frame but Bill Buckley's opinion will be crucial in the final reckoning.

Don't think your summer weather (hope it lasts until third week in March!) will impact on track. Ole Olsen and his team will arrive early next month and start again from scratch using the materials that were taken up and stored after the 2012 event. Ole thinks he can make it even better which would be quite an achievement.

Let's hope he can because I though last years track wouldn't take much in the way of tweaking to make it an immense track with that banking. A few riders in a few heats did start to show that. Only hope I'll be able to wake up in the middle of the night and watch it live on tele!

the track was awful last season and may I say in just about every GP, for the sake of speedway do away with Ole and his grand ideas at preparing a track, the public and the sponsors want entertaining, the sport needs to get away from the rolled roads that we witness week in week out, entertainment is the name of the game.

utter bollocks. bar the rut which emil hit i thought tgectrack was exceptional for a first time effort- would u have had a race like heat 20 if the surface was crap? did u actually watch the gps last year? most gps were, in my opinion of course, of a very high standard of racing

Were you watching the same GP as the rest of us? The track in NZ was one of the best prepared one off surfaces we've ever seen - every rider loved it, and from what I remember this is the first time a one off track has been given universal praise.
