screm
That makes 15 unless I have missed someone and as said looks a good lineup, hopefully the weather will be kind. Please feel free to point out if I have missed any riders as I assume it will be a field of 16 with reserves??, not sure never been to one of these meetings. Hopefully this weather holds till the meeting, its glorious in Berwick today and has been over the last few days.

freddyfivetoes
Glasgow fans will certainly have one heat-leader to cheer. But I think that'll be Scotland's No
T.N.T.
There can be as many posts as you want about which riders are riding where over this weekend but for me the big question that needs answering is WHY HOLD THIS AT BERWICK ? With a Testimonial meeting at Kings Lynn on the Friday and then one at Wolves on the Sunday ..... why wasn't this held at Coventry on the Saturday ? (Brandonapolis Meeting done later in the season ?) Backless
Because not everything rotates around the midlands? Because the date and venue for the Ben Fund was announced in October? Because the EL is so kiss weak that "the star names" treat riding in Britain with disdain and barely turn up for EL matches? Because "the star names" have got their heads so far up their arses they don't care about contributing anything to British Speedway, unless there's a cheque in it for them and think its beneath them to help those who might need help (ironic with an ex world champ retiring through serious injury recently)? Or might it be all of the above? Edited March 2, 2013 by Backless

With a Testimonial meeting at Kings Lynn on the Friday and then one at Wolves on the Sunday ..... why wasn't this held at Coventry on the Saturday ? (Brandonapolis Meeting done later in the season ?) Dear me. Where would one start to answer the words of an idiot? Well, why should the generosity of Berwick's fans, who have for four years topped the BenFund collection table (where did Coventry finish in those years?) be insulted by NOT staging the meeting at Berwick? Why should the Berwick promotion not be rewarded for their huge strides in track surface, track lighting, foam-fence installation and FIM recognition over the same period? Unlike your recommendation of Coventry (where the great days of the Ochiltrees are long gone) Berwick have also maintained smart and slick presentation for many years, going back to even the Berrington Lough years. In short, your post is an insult to fans in the north of our nation. Apology required.

screm
We`ve known this meeting was being held at Berwick for ages now,and for those who are asking why Berwick, well why not.We arent living in the dark ages up here, and there is life outside the EL tracks you know. Its also no good having a go at the riders who are not appearing at Berwick,we dont know how many riders have been asked and said no,the Ben Fund organisers could announce that I suppose but what good would that do,I wouldve loved to see many GP riders at this meeting but thats not going to happen so lets look forward to the meeting we have.

screm
This meeting, which raises funds for seriously injured riders, is now the traditional opener for the British Speedway season, and Berwick follows previous stagings at Sheffield, Rye House, Scunthorpe and Birmingham. Organiser Paul Ackroyd gives very careful consideration to choosing the venue each year. He says "We need to move the meeting round the country, and it's only fair that the northern supporters get a chance to see the meeting. "Berwick have always had good track collections for the Ben Fund, in fact they have been the highest for the last three years, so obviously the people there are keen to support the Ben Fund. "With the air fence, and the stadium the way it is now, the improvements that have been made make it an ideal venue and opportunity for us to have the meeting there To those who wonder why the meeting is being held at Berwick.

Good post. I think there's only one Elitist prock* who wondered why. One who seems to think all speedway should be held in his West Midland backyard. Doesn't seem to have contributed further since his last post, though. * possible spelling error
spin king
Still shaking my head in disbelief at this one Have to agree, but I do think the poster is on the wind- up to be honest. The likes of yourself and Glasgow fans, and fans from other clubs north of Scunthorpe have supported this event with your presence over the years and travelled miles to watch the event, why should the more Northern club be given a chance not to travel 100's of miles for a change. I don't think it matters if its Chris Holder or Chris Schramm who rides in the meeting, its a chance for fans to get together to raise money for riders who have suffered serious injuries or life changing injuries.
Catch Me If You Can
What time do the gates open ?Know it says starts 6 30 i presume its 5 00 and theres no footy on There is football. But it is listed for 2pm so should end before 4pm. Sure I read somewhere they did not want any speedway traffic coming in until 4pm
Marcelle
Well I'm looking forward to my first visit to Shielfield Park, hope the weather holds. Berwick have as much right to hold the meeting as any other track in the country. Now what are the Burgers/Chips etc like?
