Ben Fund Meeting - Berwick - Saturday 9 March 2013 6.30pm

Recommended Posts

Berwick can't get them through the door for league meetings, the fim meeting was a farce and the burgers and pies are over hyped like everything associated with Berwick speedway.... Next??

Hardly Berwick's fault that the FIM meeting was a farce, the weather was just one of them unfortunate things. But having said that track conditions were still better than a normal dry night at Brough Park :P

Other than your post being a bit trolly, and wanky (as per)

The idea that meetings are awarded on the basis of pies (try one if you haven't, they are rather good. as you will pick up like the rest of Arsons Fires post that bit is crap as well) actually makes you sound simple rather than being some smart arse comment against the promotion.

Berwick, like, ow only 100% of tracks in the UK struggle to "get them in" but unlike 90% are proactive in doing something about it.

The "fim neeting" was as much a farce as the 4s held at Workington (won by Powell and Stoney in the rain), the PLRC held at Sheffield when Compton took Stead off (on a terrible weather affected track), the WC held at Sheffield when Loram cartwheeled down the back straight (on a rain soaked track), it the Brittish Final when Carter qualified (on a wet track) the pairs at Glasgow won by Parker and I can't even remember who, on, yep, you guessed it, a weather affected track.

A sport which is dependant on weather is impacted when it rains, who knew.

So sure, go ahead and try and take the p*sh but watch you don't make yourself look an utter fanny in the process (as per)

Why Berwick? Why not it seems to be the idea that a different track is given chance to host the meeting every year, and I believe that Berwick as a club raise the most through bucket collection last season over any other club.

It has been well-reported that for the past four seasons, the collection at Berwick raised the most of any club in any league.

Four solid years, and their fans (and the visitors' supporters on each of the four chosen nights, which were in each case different northern clubs) donated the biggest totals. Not once, but four straight seasons.

So Berwick, their supporters and the other northern clubs' fans, most certainly deserve this meeting, and it will be a success in terms of raising money for the BenFund.

It's funny how PL fans always hark on about the PL being best, the Pl being better, not wanting EL. But when they think they're getting a few EL riders and then it turn out they're not, they suddenly get upset. If the PL is so great, be happy you're not having to lower your standards to watch EL riders.

You have to ask who thought running a Ben Fund meeting in Berwick was a good idea though, hardly going to draw the fans in is it? And clearly not the riders either.

SCB i usually like your posts as they are normally well thought out and reasoned, therefore the above statement came as a bit of a surprise to me.

How in heavens name can you question the fact that Berwick have been awarded this meeting, there are more than enough "fans" up here to make this a success.

The distances should not come into it as this meeting helps all riders not just those having a testomonial.

Your comment smacks of superiority i.e. "why should this go to a provincial club and fans when all the rest of us are based south of Manchester".

Beleive it or not there IS a big fan base up here who deserve to see top class speedway at times, you dont have a monopoly on meetings "down south".

Ok the top guys have now decided that there are more important meetings for them to do, but i am sure the line up we end up with will produce a great meeting, weather permitting of course

If you were just fishing please ignore the above comments

Be interesting to get SCB and Arson Fire's thought on that post. Or will they be strangely silent?

no?? Got no problem with the meeting being at Berwick, in fact I'm looking forward to it....I went 11 times last year. I was taking the mick out of the constant cringeworthy spin they put out... About everything.... Maybe was on the wrong thread, I agree :)

Keep supporting Speedway wherever it is. It surely needs everyone no matter what they think of other tracks and fellow posters on here?

I have to say that I am really looking forward to this meeting and the lineup looks pretty good, that coupled with the opportunity to head to Robert Smiths chippy after the meeting tops it off for me. The lineup so far I believe is:

Hans Andersen (2011 Winner)

Craig Cook

Theo Pijper

Claus Vissing

Mark Lemon

Ludvig Lindgren

Cameron Woodward

Danny King

Mads Korneliussen

Josh Grajczonek

Richard Hall

Chris Harris

Ricky Ashworth

Richie Worrall

Ben Barker (2012 Winner)

That makes 15 unless I have missed someone and as said looks a good lineup, hopefully the weather will be kind. Please feel free to point out if I have missed any riders as I assume it will be a field of 16 with reserves??, not sure never been to one of these meetings.

15 so far, but 5 to come as they usually have a 20 man field with 4 rides each not 5. Irrespective of who is added to complete the field, it should be a good meeting and a big crowd.

yes 20 riders in field last season at birmingham so still 5 more places to fill,
