No Gps On Sky Television Next Year?

Recommended Posts

That has been known for months and hasn't changed in the slightest, there haven't been any developments good or bad. Do you want a daily update saying nothing has changed. If and when BSI agree a deal with SKY (or any other broadcaster) then it will be made public.

A bit like the BBC's infamous "there is no news today" broadcast...

If you are referring to my post #173, by reading it properly you will see the communication is with IMG, not Sky!!

And what were you expecting. Perhaps you thought a deal had been agreed and they had just forgot to announce it and your e mail would be a most welcome reminder!!!!!

Personally - I would rather watch the League Meetings. :t::approve:

Perhaps I am in a minority of one - but - I prefer TEAM Speedway to the GPs.

Speedway is really an individual sport. The team element is entirely contrived, it is just an accumulation of individual scores to give a team total. Team riding, by and large, doesn't exist anymore. In a true team sport one team members performance is dependent on his team mates and that isn't the case with speedway

Yes, there are more dimensions to team speedway, and whilst riders come-and-go, teams allow for some sort of continuity.

BUT British Speedway is based on teams and this is what has kept it going over the years and I hope it carries on for many years yet. It's so important for the promoters to promote the team aspect and the riders to realise that for the fans their team is most important!!!!!!!! Promoters and riders probably don't have the same feeling for "their team" as the fans but the sooner they get it into their heads the better, what it means to support your local speedway team!!

I think more could be done to encourage team riding, certainly taking away the bonus points for the riders doesn't help one bit, maybe the promoters could think of something themselves to encourage it, a bonus perhaps. Obviously team riding isn't easy and sometimes jeopardises riders' positions in races but it's what the fans want to see and if you look at the big picture, keeping the fans happy is a massive part of the sport.

Makes you wonder what would happen if all the riders were on the same points money .................. with team riding and team winning bonuses up for grabs ..........

team racing was formed in this country in 1929 to stop the sport from declining in the eyes of the fans and the media. it has held the sport together for over 80 years. i used to enjoy the magic of a one off world final and an occasional big meeting like the internationale or the hyde road BLRC. but for me speedway has always been about league racing.

I agree with this. But, with the big stars of speedway giving the UK a miss, we are left with a lot of second rate speedway on TV. Its a no win situation. The amount of meeting i switched over from last year because of boredom was very high.

Thats why I think a mixture of G.p's and League speedway is a must.

So, having overspent ridiculously on football, the poor saps - sorry, I mean subscribers - get the schedules filled with second rate programming that isn't even in HD?

When can I expect a reduction in my HD subscription then?

I can only hope that BT Vision and today's Virgin Media deal rip Sky in general & Sky Sports in particular to pieces.

You might have 4 channels - but you've only (barely) got 3channels worth of programming

TWENTY NINE satellite trucks to bring what? Blokes standing on the roadside outside training grounds?

Here's an idea - buy them all a decent mobile & tell them to ring in.

That'll pay for a season of speedway coverage.

Here's an idea, if you don't like a service, don't use it. Simple.

The reality is, as much as a few people on here complain they don't like football, the overwhelming majority of Sky Sports subscribers DO. Sky pay what they need to pay for the football rights because without them, their channels would sink quicker than the Titanic.

The big stars don't make speedway exciting.

The grafters and the team riders do that. Lads who don't know when they are beat.

Sadly both are in short supply in the EL.

Speedway needs to encourage team riding and get both track preperation and standard of opposition right for TV meetings.

Local derbies and matches with teams who can both actually ride the track.

Show the best of the sport rather than two weakened teams one of whom cannot ride the particular track for toffee.

You would think SKY and the BSPA would want to cherry pick meetings that provide good entertainment and have a chance of at least generating an atmosphere.
