chunky
the most exciting rider i've ever seen must be christer lofqvist. I was at West Ham the night Christer made his British debut (against the Dons). What a rider... Steve

Parsloes 1928 nearly
Brady would be for me in the top 50 players i ever see, be up there with Berkamp(the best!!) and Henry. No way in a milion years was Bergkamp a better player than Brady or Henry..! Bergkamp's career is smoke & mirrors..: the most over-rated footballer of all time. He only had one truly great season at Highbury: 1997/'

iris123
yes i put my hand up.....it was me.Just making a sarcastic point if you like as this is a Wimbledon thread and we end up(BSF,do you expect anything else?)talking about a rider who never rode for the Dons, even if rider control sent him to Plough Lane.He didn't turn up,so talk about him on a West Ham thread. As Liam Brady like Christer did turn out for West Ham then there is a link lol Two of Liams brothers did turn out for a decent south London team though!!!! Parsloes 1928 nearly
To be honest though, I think the point of a discussion forum is to allow the discussion to go the way it wants, as an organic thing so to speak... Too many people on the BSF get over-concerned about changes in direction of a discussion. Think of conversations down the pub - you start talking about something and within no time you're debating an entirely different subject!! iris123
Then no problem with talking about Liam Brady and his brothers.Anyway Dickie Guy is a Dons legend lol

Andy Wilko
To be honest though, I think the point of a discussion forum is to allow the discussion to go the way it wants, as an organic thing so to speak... Too many people on the BSF get over-concerned about changes in direction of a discussion. Think of conversations down the pub - you start talking about something and within no time you're debating an entirely different subject!! 3 pints of London Pride, I go to the loo, and when I get back you are all talking about football. Further to my earlier post - that's right - no Briggo. Talking of beer, the bar at Rosslyn Park rugby club (where incidentally my all time favourite player was the late Andy Ripley) now sells Sambrook's Wandle bitter - it's not a bad pint but as one who has spent many an evening watching speedway by the side of said river back in its smelly days, asking for a pint of Wandle (to drink) takes a bit of getting used to.
Guest
Here's my septet in riding order Bobby Ott Roger Johns Mark Burrows Kai Niemi Malcolm Simmons Kelvin Tatum Todd Wiltshire Sadly a bit too young to remember Tommy or Mirac, and would have loved to have been around to see Ronnie Greene in charge! waiheke1
Briggo, Moore,T.Jansson, Hedge, Tatum,Ross, Jancarz. Intertested you've got Tatum ahead of Simmons Sidney? Simmons was the main man for Wimbledon in the early 80s, wheras Tatum had just his initial two BL seasons for the Dons - actually surprised at the number of people who have Tatum in their teams, as while he was obviously a great young talent, he didn't actually achieve that much in Dons colours. The best I've seen in Wimbledon colours: 1. Ronnie Moore 2. Dave Jessup 3. Trevor Hedge 4. Malcolm Simmons 5. Tommy Jansson 6. Barry Briggs 7. Edward Jancarz Replace Jancarz with Ross and that would be my team IMHO, 'Greats' should also be judged within their era, status of the club at the time and the impression/contribution they made at the time which is why I'd include Buzz.. Waiting now to get shot down by those who won't accept that concept.... Rare occasion, but I'm in agreement with you here Parsloes. No right or wrongs in naming this type of team, so long as you can give some sort of justification for rider's inclusion I don't think anyone can disagree No way in a milion years was Bergkamp a better player than Brady.! Bergkamp's career is smoke & mirrors..: the most over-rated footballer of all time. He only had one truly great season at Highbury: 1997/'98 this however, is utter bollocks! stratton
I didn't consider Simmo or Jessup as both were on the slide then, after both having great careers.Tatum you are right didn't ride that long but i admired him and Doncaster for going straight into the tough BL as novices and both did great.Certainly for WImbledon i would put Ross in front of Simmo and DJ. Parsloes 1928 nearly
I think the point was that Kelvin was a Dons product and coming straight into the top league as a home-produced and basically local rider and then going onto such great things (albeit when riding for other clubs), makes him stand out to me above others who came to the Dons AFTER their greatest moments (like Simmo and DJ)... waiheke1
Yeah, I can understand that, as an Aces fan that's how I view Andy Smith, a true Hyde Rd product right down to the shambolic gating...
Mimmo
Jeez, to pick an all-time greatest Wimbledon side is almost impossible. I started supporting the Dons in 1958, so can only judge from then, but accept that there were many great riders prior to that, who would warrant a place. My 1-7 in order (I THINK!!!!!!) is. 1) Ron How 2) Ronnie Moore 3) Peter Moore 4) Barry Briggs 5) Tommy Jansson 6) Edward Jancarz 7) Gote Nordin Oh dear, Sverre Harrfeldt, Roger Johns, Trevor Hedge, Gerald Jackson, Cyril Brine, Dave Jessup, Malcolm Simmons, Bobby Ott, Brad Oxley, Rudy Muts etc., etc all warrant a place. iris123
On 12/26/2012 at 11:40 AM, norbold said: Vic Huxley Jim Kempster Ray Tauser Wilbur Lamoreaux Norman Parker Ronnie Moore Barry Briggs Picking out Tauser here. Seen a news snippet that Tauser was forced to leave the UK by the Home Office in 1932 dated 09.06.1932 !!! Apparently he entered on a tourist pass and rode a few meetings before he had official permission!! Now in the Ian Perkins booklet he states 'Ray Tauser did not return to ride for Wimbledon until the season was well underway and then sustained a very painful injury to his hand, which restricted his point scoring in the latter part of the year ' Only things is looking at speedway researcher it seems Tauser was riding in the opening meeting of the season and a couple of other meetings, then goes missing from the team for a couple of months until he returns in July. Does anyone know if he was just injured or he really was forced to leave and then return ?
