Very true sidney. Gary was a super Rider. I'm sure he would have gone far had he carried on racing. I don't know what happened to him - it would be interesting to know. They had some great Riders in those days did Crewe. Phil Crump, Dai Evans, Colin Tucker, John Jackson, and of course the great Sunderland 'Stars' legend Jack Millen. :approve:
stratton
Crewe i believe was a massive track, and it just shows how good Crump senior was. I think if i am right he had little experience on big tracks Mildura was not overly big.As the WK says Crewe had some terrific riders, i think i might of seen Flood in second halves at Swindon and after the meeting spins i think he signed as a no 8 for the robins.? hawkeyenz
I think that Gary went back to Australia and rode Motorcross. I also found this: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/speedwayyears/1980.html A Gary Flood signed for Exeter but injured a shoulder in a pre-season challenge in 1980. I remember seeing him at Eastbourne in 1972. Crewe held us to 41-37 which was quite an a achievement. I think Phil Crump and Gary Flood scored 14 and 13 from 5 rides each. He scored 6 at Eastbourne earlier in the year but won his first race. He was a talent, no doubt about it. If it is the same person he is also a multiple Australian Motocross champion. hawkeyenz
He seems to come from a famous Motorcross family. His father was Bert Flood. If you do a search with "Gary Flood" Bultaco you will find heaps of interesting information. In 2009 he lived in Coldstream just outside Melbourne. stratton
Thanks Hawkeyenz i can vaguely remember that now at Exeter, also remember now Chris Pusey riding for Weymouth around the same time.Flood could of been very good how good? who knows a shame really him and Mick Mckeon who finished early could of had good long shale careers. Hot Shoe
This ties in nicely with my Ivan Miller post a couple of months ago. I remember seeing Gary Flood at Comerfords of Thames Ditton, Surrey (then UK Bultaco importer) in the early 70s on many occasions along with Ivan Miller and Vic Allan. Excellent Motocross rider who was Australian champion many times. There's some great photos of Gary Flood on www.ozvmx.com especially one on a 250 Bultaco Grass Tracker with his Crewe speedway race jacket on.
