Pirate Nick
Off to meet the boys for breakfast then on to the Oak Tree for the first speedway based drinking of the year, great way to start the weekend!!
oldtimer
Given the temperature, I for one will be giving this a miss even though we are only 40 minutes or so away, it is cold enough at Somerset in the summer with the wind blowing in from the coast, £32 for two of us to stand around in the freezing cold, no thanks, even if LB is on an upright! Hope he does better than when he rode it in the last Newport version of this meeting!  Quite why the promtion think it is a good idea to have pre meeting activity, commendable it may be but not at this time of the year! Did they think that through?  The pre meeting activity is not now taking place, I think it was planned originally to give you more entertainment for your money, and you of course had the option to just turn up for the start of the racing if you wanted to. Think your remarks out of order.
oldswindonsupporter
The remarks are not out of order at all, at this time of the year or indeed at the time of the original meeting, you might have thought that the promotion would realise that pre meeting entertainment in temperatures around the 5 degree mark or less is not going to be well received or indeed wanted! Â Perhaps if it was a daytime meeting, but in the evening, it has to be on with the racing and no dragging the proceedings out. About time we had meetings start on time and run quickly, sometimes the paying public ought to be considered. Â Of course that is my view and I have also voiced my opinion by not going, that decision is based on how cold it is and would never have been influenced by the pre meeting entertainment that was proposed i.e it is of no interest to me. brewer
well a good meeting to start the year off, bit chilly, yes, but so what you know that and prepare for it, some good racing out there , well done to ben, lambert was going well to, fair play to hall for changing engines, and making the effort, rusty didnt look interested from the start, (hope for workingtons sake he is up for it), lewis if your going to do these events , please make an effort and bring a real bike, good win for newman over the fish. in all i enjoyed the meeting well run no real hold ups as referee and riders kept meeting going nicely. bring on the season, speedway racing its great,
exocet
I think that sums it up.I was surprised that an Elite league Rider such as Mr Bridger didn't have some sort of competitive machinery as he made himself look very unprofessional by turning out on a Del Boy special.Someone should have said that The Men in black weren't due to appear.Well done to the rest of the field, and as Brewer states to the ref for keeping the meeting running so swiftly. Nice food in the clubhouse as well. Not a trace of horse.

If you didn't want to stand in the cold for pre match entertainment then, I repeat, you could just turn up later for the actual match. Therefore I don't know what you are complaining about.  Good to see some familiar faces and have a good chat. The track looked in good condition considering the weather we have had, and received complimentary comments from Barker. Racing was what you would expect this time of year, but clashes between Barker and Fisher were entertaining. Great to see a large crowd and had few laughs with a lively group of Plymouth supporters, also good 4 page programme for only £1 which is all we want, if only this was retained for the coming season. Had the chicken and mushroom slice (which was disguised as a pastie) with mash and gravy, which was well up to standard. A pity Bridger turned up (no respect for the fans) as perhaps someone like Nick Morris could have taken his place.

He changed tried about everything and was really down having come all the way from Workington for one ride in the end. Lewis blew the Jawa engine he was going to use and sourced another at the 11th hour and had nothing but trouble with it in the pits --helped Brendan Johnson with his set up and used BDJ's bike to win his last ride. Popular Post Animal
II was surprised that an Elite league Rider such as Mr Bridger didn't have some sort of competitive machinery as he made himself look very unprofessional by turning out on a Del Boy special. . A pity Bridger turned up (no respect for the fans) as perhaps someone like Nick Morris could have taken his place. lewis if your going to do these events , please make an effort and bring a real bike, Â All a bit harsh on Lewis! He had made it very clear prior to the meeting (I even posted it #77) that he was going to ride an old Jawa, for a bit of fun and practice. Due to the event being cancelled twice, Lewis's 2013 bikes are all currently broken down for anodising and he did not have a bike available. So he either opted out of the meeting and would probably have been criticised or turn up and have a go and still get criticised! Incidentally as Main Man says, Lewis has a very competitive Jawa engine tested and ready to use, which would probably have caused a few surprises. Unfortunately he blew it up whilst practicing on Thursday afternoon, leaving him little time to find another engine and fit it into the bike. He didn't finish building the bike until 3am Friday morning and given the travel time from Brighton to Somerset it gave him no opportunity to test it. Â Rather than show "no respect for the fans", he went to an incredible ammount of effort to turn out, when it would have been a lot easier for him not to have bothered! i think that shows a great deal of respect.
Heather12
Yes, I feel that Lewis should be congratulated rather than criticised for doing his best to ride on the evening rather than taking the easiest of routes and withdrawing from the meeting

Every other rider made the effort. You expect people to believe that?? I certainly don't, and think its pretty poor. Its not very professional if you ask me. He's a fool to himself, Lewis could be a very good rider, in the Scott Nicholls class, for an English rider, but he continues to treat speedway as a play thing. I hope when he retires he has a good look in the mirror and see's what a waste of talent he's been... You only get one crack at life, and if you have talent in your choosen sport you maximise it. Unless circumtances depict otherwise... Edited February 9, 2013 by Starman2006
Animal
You expect people to believe that?? Â Believe what you like, it's a fact! Â Let's wait until Lewis actually retires (he's only 23) before deciding whether or not he was a wasted talent.

Let's wait until Lewis actually retires (he's only 23) before deciding whether or not he was a wasted talent.  He's already threatened to retire once. Its in his own hands, nobody elses. Again, no excuss, every other rider made the effort to prepare a bike, bar him. Very un-professional. He maybe only 23, but the way he carries on he will still be in the same boat at 30. He needs to wake up and smell the coffee, instead of treating speedway as some sort of play thing. He gives the impression of having no ambition.. snafu
Animal.... You appear to be well informed and if you do know Lewis Bridger, can you pass on my sincere thanks to him for going to all that trouble to get himself down here at all. That shows a level of maturity to me and the guy should be applauded not slated!! I enjoyed seeing the guy have a go on an old lady, which was always going to be a little short on pace but a lovely sight none the less. Well done Lewis young man and thank you for coming down and entertaining us all.
Animal
He gives the impression of having no ambition.. Â Have a read of his website, on his home page he has written; "2013 is the turning point for team Lewis Bridger, I intend to achieve greatness in 2013 there is nothing holding me back. I have some amazing people/partners onboard, and in all honesty I couldn't do it without them. I have an excellent mechanic for 2013 and one of the best engine tuners in the world looking after my motors, what more could a 23yr old British lad want" Â We all know that talk is cheap and words mean nothing without actions, but he is hardly lacking ambition!

Dave_minall
If he'd turned up to a league meeting with an upright I'd have agreed with some of the comments on here (I say some, because there are some that are downright insulting and the people posting should be ashamed) but this was a one off - a bit of fun before the season starts. He doesn't have to have his race gear fully up to spec and race ready until March. Get off his back and grow up.
