Wackie
Very sad news, thoughts are with Emil & his family. Can see him going on & wining the world title this year if he stays injury free. With the composure and determination he rode with tonight despite everything else going on in his life he might just take some stopping. Entertaining GP in the end, the new guard are certainly livening things up. Have read Nicki has broken his hand, hope both he and Ward are fit to take their place in the next GP. rob tatum
Must admit The 1st half of tonites gp was pretty much as I expected ,when I was 16 I went to see michael lee win the world title in gothenburg and the meeting was dire. Ivan mauger said the track had an adverse camber which is NZ for crap. 2nd half of meeting was fantastic with great racing well done to emil and the riders what brave men you are thankyou. As for the commentary I M O I like pearson and tatum and as for people calling them names grow up just be thankful its on tv ,eurosport are doing a great job. Well done to all
manchesterpaul
EMIL'S father died this evening ... apparently just about the same time as he was winning in Gothenburg. Very emotional for such a young lad, who incidentally is a smashing kid. Our thoughts go out to him and his family. Absolutely awful news i've just found that out myself before coming here. UPDATE Apparently his father died shortly before the meeting and Emil was unaware of the tragic news until after the post-meeting press conference. If Pedersen has broken his wrist will he and Ward be out of Cardiff? From Nicki's Twitter account "My hand is broken im soo pissed off looks like 4 weeks out. Still raced 2 heat after with a broken hand a lot of pain" Edited May 5, 2013 by manchesterpaul

Knowing how ill his father was, it's amazing that Emil was even in Goteborg, let alone doing what he did. The young man has a lot of character and thoughts are with him.

pandorum
Puts everything into perspective. Knowing how ill his father was, it's amazing that Emil was even in Goteborg, let alone doing what he did. The young man has a lot of character and thoughts are with him. This is true mate. He is a superb sportsman and does seem a thouroughly nice lad. Sad to hear that. Will have made his moment of triump seem irrelevant. He mentioned his dad in the interview at the end but obviously did not know. Doubt we will see him in action for a while but do hope he comes back stronger and puts himself at the top of the pile come the end of the season. Just out of interest was his dad a speedway rider in Russia or the old USSR days? His brother Denis rides just wondered if his dad did? Also sorry to hear of Nicki's misfortune as I do like the insane old grumpy bugger. It was one of those things and even though Tai was lucky to be in the rerun it was just hard riding that Nicki knows plenty about. Hope he's fit soon as the sport misses him during his abscences. Wish both these lads well and hope they both (under widely conflicting circumstances) return fit and well soon. OOPs forgot about Ward. Not a fan but hope he too is back sooner rather than later. Just seen it Emil's dad was an ice speedway rider. Tough lads those guys. Edited May 5, 2013 by pandorum
stevec
All in all, not a great night! Racing was good at the end but just sobering that Nicki and Darcy are hurt and worse of all Emil losing his Dad. As a son, I do not belive there could be a better way to honor him that win a GP. I hope he does not do himself in becauehe was not there. I am sure there is only one place hisDad would have wanted him to be.

stratton
The second half of the meeting was decent, heat 19 Gollob,s manoeuvre was brilliant Emil was entertaining all night the semi and final rides brilliant.Holder did get caught mid track in the final but i am impressed with him improving and has a chance to regain the crown.Emil injury free has every chance this year his engines ( Ashley Holloway) look super fast and at the moment it looks inevitable every time that he will pass from the back. Bagpuss
Great ride from Emil in the final.... but.. Holder did give it him. As he did in the earlier race they had. All Holder had to do was keep it out wide (which he was doing) and Emil had no way by.. Stupidly Holder rode round the middle of the track in 1 & 2 on lap 4 and left the door wide open for Emil to sail by! Great entertainment in the latter stages of the meeting though. In fairness to Noddy I don't think it was that simple. Emil looked the quicker rider to me and on the second lap I commented that he should try cutting under Holder as the dirt looked like it might be a bit too wide to use by then, there had been a few other passes using the inside line on that bend in the preceding heats. I agree though that Holder was in no-mans-land a little but I think credit for that should probably go to Sayfutdinov, he wore Holder down over those three and a bit laps through sheer pressure and forced him into that mistake. Arson fire
Thoughts with Emil was superb, and just shows how mentally strong he is to perform like that given his dads condition. Shaping up to be the most open world champs for years, with many fighting it out and all capable of beating each other on the day. Don't think Holder could have done much more as Emil was simply faster, no matter what line he took... Credit to Holder though, he often takes stick but he is a very fair rider generally who leaves racing room and wins races in the correct way...last years last gp the exception, but who wouldn't given what was at stake. New Science
Second half of this meeting much better than beginning pretty entertaining glad to see Emil win Racing really picked up in the 2nd half of the meeting, hope not too many switched off after the first hour.Crowd was pitiful can't see this venue staging another GP.Well done Emil great win in such tragic circumstances ! Has anyone noticed the Gorzow sponsorship seems to have disappeared, was very prominent at the GP but haven't seen their logo at the last 2 GP's
