I am wondering just what they mean by a 2013 challenge meeting for the 2014 season? Are they going down the longtrack route of having a challenge meeting this season to decide the riders for next season along with the riders that qualify through their performance in this seasons GPs?????

If you fancy an early start - 0600GMT - on Saturday 8th/ Sunday 9thDecember then there is Live Ice Racing from Novosibirsk here: http://miitv.ru/archives/527

Can't guarantee the quality of the broadcast, as it is generally done by the club using a video camera attached to the net, and a commentary all in Russian, but it's the first two rounds of the Premier League

I suspect the 2014 Challenge Meeting will take place at the start of the 2014 season, as there can't be many tracks still running at the end of March

With this letter and what it says they are taking a step (without possibly realising which or what) to improve the series even longer. To me (doesn't necessarily count) it says that the FIM will find out the winners of the challenge within 2013. And that means in my view prior to June 2013. All they need is ice. I've heard of people making new people inside other people and people walking on the moon... So whats the problem?

"Is" is wrong. Has the chance to be is more correct and is the #1 candidate at the moment.

EDIT: 25 riders riding on 6 tracks for three days, everything went well I'm told. 23 wanted to take part in the meeting, 14 were picked and 9 had to ride a couple of qualis to take their place. The one's that did not qualify, were given a track to practise on for the rest of the camp. Anatoli Bondarenko and Jarmo Hirvasoja were present giving guidance.

I'm going to St Johann in January, flying into and out of Munich.

Any suggestions for public transport links between Munich and St Johann? I've tried www.bahn.de and not all of the prices show, and those that do seem to be a lot higher than the Summer prices when I last looked. €44 for the journey there and twice that to get back seems a bit steep. Any other suggestions or will I have to hire a car and risk driving on the wrong side of the road in the snow and ice?

I was considering the same trip and spoke to a friend who is FIM rep for the Austrian Federation. She suggested the train direct from Munich or Saltzburg to St Johann as at least you can rely on that to be running, plus its less stressful than driving in the snow/ice. From what I can gather, the Stadium is on the edge of town, whilst the station is well placed in the town.

Had a quick look on bahn.de myself, and depending on dates there was a special price around €66 return going out Friday 18/1 returning Monday 21/1. This might be teaching Granny to Suck eggs stuff, but I've found that deleting the cookies for sites like bahn.de before I go back on to it usually means the offers are still on.

I've had to cancel plans for St Johann, as I am going to Sanok the following weekend, as Mrs C can't get time off for both weekends. But this meeting looks good as there are some top riders pencilled in. I just hope that the Kosov twins get through to it from the Russian Final, as they are two of the most exciting Russians I've seen recently. Bit like Peter Collins when he would miss the gate and then win races, these two appear to have that same talent.

Hope this helps.

It would be much easier to go to St. Johann im Pongau, if You fly into and out of Salzburg, instead of Munich.

Franky announces his retirement!!!!!

Well, sort of.He talks about St.Johann being his last meeting if he doesn't manage to get through under his own steam.Unless of course he has technical problems. He had long talks with the FIM who had put him down as one of the fixed riders in the GPs.But it is vital for the well being of Austrian ice speedway that he rides. No Franky,no crowd. So the Polish rider Knapp took Franky's place in the GPs

Easier maybe, but far less affordable. I got return tickets from Birmingham (where I live) to/from Munich for just about €60 (Monarch Airlines). I'll be able to hire a car for €30-€40 but was just wondering what other options there were.
